Don't remind me. I tried to go for a run earlier after being on hiatus for 2 months. Damn, you lose your conditioning fast when you just sit around.

Also, check out Pike Place Market appearing in this video:

LA better step it's car chase game up. This is insane.

I mean, I counted twenty school buses and the cul de sac escape was amazing. Those keystone cops didn't even block off the entrance. And then they "stop" him by spinning him into oncoming traffic. The dude is an asshole but seriously these cops didn't do a great job closing. I guess they were running out of options but other forces back off and let the helicopters follow when it gets this dangerous. Easy for me to criticize here in my chair.

Oh shit! I saw that truck flying down east marginal southbound about 1:15. I thought it looked like it was moving fast...then about 20 police cars kept coming.

Anyone know of a good dim sum place in Seattle or nearby? I know of Din Tai Fung but was hoping for something that wasn't a chain. Btw - for those that enjoy a cold one and don't mind a ferry ride, Silver City across the water is legit, as is Sound Brewing, Slippery Pig, and Valholl.

Bamboo Village in Wallingford has parking and is decent. My elderly shanghainese in laws approve of it. Not amazing but easy and tasty.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll probably check out DTF. Also been meaning to try Japonessa downtown, heard a lot of good things.

I love Jade Garden in the International District, but if you go you should try to get there before 10AM on the weekends cause they get busy fast.

House of Hong is our go-to for holiday dim sum because they're pretty large and we never have to wait for a table, buuut the food all is pretty greasy (possibly an anomaly on those extra busy days) and I always leave feeling slightly nauseous from it. And yet, we keep going back! Addictive nature of Chinese food ;)

To follow up on the dim sum: I ended up going to Din Tai Fung with a few people. There were four of us and we ordered six items from the menu of different varieties. It was...fine? I didn't think anything was particularly lights out, it was all just fine. My favorites were this dumpling bowl thing in a special spicy sauce and the spicy soup. Cost was around $20/person, not bad for a nicer meal (lunch). I don't know that I'd go out of my way to eat there again, but that's a YMMV thing. I think the flavors are a bit blander than I'm used to, growing up in a Japanese household with curry, katsu, omurice, etc. Thanks all for the recommendations, I am glad I tried it!

Xao long bao, green beans, fried pork chop over rice. GOAT.

DTF's rice cakes suck. Soggy and sad. Joule/Trove makes great ones, and I'm besting them both at home these days. :)

Funny thing is....I also tried for the first time too and felt the same way. (still glad I tried it out though)

I got my wife Rachel Yang's cookbook for Christmas and we've made the spicy rice cakes a few times at home. They're identical and so damn good. Love how crispy they get.

Anyone have any thoughts or tips to share on cool places or recommendations in Beacon Hill?

Wife and I just bought a townhouse on the edge of that area and are moving in a month or so

Bar Del Corso has awesome pizza, Baja Bistro is pretty amazing mexican-ish food.

Beacon Hill is more residential than other hoods but has great access to a bunch of places with more going on. CD, Capitol Hill, Int'l District, Columbia City, Georgetown (might not be news to you if you are familiar with the area.)

Slowboat Tavern in Hilman City isn't far from there.

Awesome! Thanks so much for these. Will definitely check them out.

Mostly familiar with Capitol Hill out of those but only really been to a few restaurants than actually taken the time to walk around out there. Great area, looking forward to exploring it more. Only been in Seattle a few years.

Moving from Ballard and everyone I've talked to makes it seem like Ballard is the best place to be, which don't get me wrong, I love it here but the places here are ridiculously expensive and everyone's high opinion of the place has me a little worried I'm leaving to a place that can't compare and will leave me disappointed.

Ballard is nice (I still miss the quaint Scandinavian fishing village it once was, but whatever), but the area you're moving to is great. I have a friend who lives in Seward Park so we spend time down in Columbia City/Hillman City pretty often.

Beacon Hill / 1st Hill are / CD / Columbia City / Georgetown are more economically diverse so there are definitely more cheaper hole in the wall's and more ethnic food that isn't $20 a plate; I love Ballard but it's kind of ridiculous for that.

Good to hear! Thanks again. Yeah the food would probably be my one complaint. It's decent but would love a bit more diversity.

Was kind of glad to see those big, fat snowflakes today since we're moving to LA next weekend. Seems unlikely I'll be getting any more snow in my future. ;)

Hot Mama's pizza is incredible. The drama in the line is as incredible as the pizza itself.

Just the best.

Not really related to Seattle, but this Seattle-area fella is very excited to be going back to Japan for the first time since he was very young this September! My wife/I are spending 16 days, not sure what we're doing exactly but 6-7 will be in Tokyo.
