As a holder what's my benefit of tethering?

I also don't really get why people do it. Market WILL rise..eventually.

Hmm, I'm starting to think BTC won't go back down lol. Debating whether I should sell the rest of my stack around 9.4-9.7 or buy back in at this point to see if we go back to 11. I guess I need to work on my patience if I'm going to play these longer trades.

None of the coins left binance, it was a phishing operation.

You should at least try and read up on it before literally spouting horribly incorrect stuff about a major exchange. This happened like four days ago, there are no issues using Binance at all...

Holy shit!

Binance Hacker Bounty
To ensure a safe crypto community, we can't simply play defense. We need to actively prevent any instances of hacking before they occur, as well as follow through after-the-fact. Even though the hacking attempt against Binance on March 7th was not successful, it was clear it was a large-scale, organized effort. This needs to be addressed.

Binance is offering a $250,000 USD equivalent bounty to anyone who supplies information that leads to the legal arrest of the hackers involved in the attempted hacking incident on Binance on March 7th, 2018.

  1. The first person to supply substantial information and evidence that leads to the legal arrest of the hackers, in any jurisdiction, will receive the equivalent of $250,000 USD in BNB. The exchange rate will be determined at time of transfer.
  2. Please supply detailed information to [email protected] as well as to your local law enforcement agencies.
  3. If your local laws allow, you may remain anonymous.
  4. If multiple sources/segments of data are used to lead to the final legal arrests, the bounty may be split between sources. Binance reserves all rights to split the bounty amount, solely at our discretion.
Furthermore, Binance has currently allocated the equivalent of $10,000,000 USD in crypto reserves for future bounty awards against any illegal hacking attempts on Binance. We have also invited other exchanges and crypto businesses to join our initiative. We welcome their participation at any time.

Protecting your funds is and has always been our highest priority!

We thank you for your support!

So which one of you wants to get turned in? I know you did it.

I thought John Oliver's episode on crypto was pretty fair. I was worried he would focus entirely on scams to portray everything in a bad light, but it wasn't that bad.

Friend told me the Oliver segment boils down to "get out of Crypto now"

Literally just watched it, not at all the takeaway. His bullet points were explaining what Bitcoin is, explaining what Blockchain is, and explaining what Cryptocurrencies were. He at multiple times reinforced that there was a lot of money to be made, but that the market was volatile and unregulated, and that there is a lot of scams out there. His final point was reiterating the classic line of "Never invest more than you're willing to lose". It was a cautionary tale for people who have no knowledge of cryptocurrency, and are thinking of doing crazy stuff like investing all their net worth into crypto.

Here's the segment:

Ah, ok that sounds very reasonable and correct.

That's a really good, well researched, informative and fair segment.
Response seem to be pretty positive. People also seem pleased that he put Brock Pierce on blast.

Welp. RIP John Oliver bump.
I doubt there was much of a correlation. There weren't significantly more google searches for "bitcoin" after his segment in the USA (there were more searches 3 days ago, same level of searches 4 and 5 days ago), and there was zero worldwide effect. Some events are simply unrelated.

Hey there, ERA cryptogang. I have a question that I'm ninety percent sure I know the answer to, but I'd like to get some expert or semi-informed opinion to try and put it to rest.

Here's my situation. My best graphics card is an RX480 and I'm dead fucking broke. Outside of that I have a... seven year old laptop and desktop, plus a phone. So like, I checked some websites and, near as I can tell, if I let all that idle all day every day I might make one, two dollars, tops, per diem, after factoring in electrical bills. That sound right to you guys, or was I horribly misusing said websites given what you know? With that being the case, and being dead fucking broke precluding any "well I'll just buy crypto" stuff outside of, like... a chicken sandwich's worth, I'm left with a second question. Which is this: at this point there's basically no way to leverage some kind of actual, better-than-minimum-wage income from cryptocurrency without beast graphics cards and seed money, right? I've been wracking my mind trying to figure out a way and I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being dumb and missing something obvious that everyone else knows about. Thanks!

Not really.

If you are really on the ball with the crypto scene, you can find new coins and mine them before they are popular, before they are available on mining pools, preferable before easy mining windows executable are available, where even one GPU can be a lot. But you'd be digging through github and trying to compile a working in-development miner, even if you manage to find a new coin that might go somewhere.

If you have any specific skills you can log into a coin's discord and see if they offer any bounties for help. This could be software developement but it could also be photoshop work, writing a tutorial, whatever.

Hrm. Digging through github is something I'm good at. Other than that, it sounds like mostly I'd be looking at a gig economy sorta thing, huh? Worth knowing.

How's everyone doing here? I've been way too busy with work and Crypto has been depressing with steady movement downward. I've probably collected in cash on 72% what I've invested and I'm still up overall on my by 150% on my portfolio, but these past few months clearly haven't been fun. Interested in what happens once Spring/Summer roll through.

One thing I'm not looking forward to is figuring out taxes. I became much more active in 2018 than I was in 2017 so that involved more transactions (taxable events) in the forms of trading for other cyprtocurrency. My main concern is:

1) Wow much work it's going to take me to the determine the taxable income generated in 2017?
2) Was I supposed to be reporting estimated taxes for 2018?
3) If #2 is yes, then what if I sold a ton of cyptocurrency at a loss to offset the gains some time in a few months? What should be the basis of the estimate that's being made if the current fair market value is in fluctuation so much through the year? Like how can a reasonable estimate be made?

Not sure if there's been already guidance on all this, but the IRS is nuts if they are going to spend the time to audit all these individuals involved in this. I'd assume that they would spend more time with individuals trading larger amounts.

Made the dumb decision to buy ETN through Cryptopia, without realising that I can't withdraw ETN from there since it's been on maintenance for over a week. Ugh.

There was a scam coin that ripped off Nucleus Vision's site. Nucleus Vision, as far as we know, is not yet proven to be a scam.

what do you guys think about nucleus vision ?
I looked into that a few months ago. The team seems fine but then I watched that ridiculous Black Mirror style video of their vision and... nah. I doubt that's gonna happen -- and if it is, I don't wanna be a part of it, even though there's probably money to be made with NCASH at the moment.
