Guys, any good settings for a 4K tv? I own a Samsung KS7000 ( US KS8000 ). I prefer the softer 720p look with scanlines. Watched the vid ( Super NT My life in gaming with Kevtris ) but haven't got a clue. I keep messing up.

Thanks in advance :)
I don't have a 4k TV so I can't test it but I think this should look pretty solid. I like a softer scanline with the way SNT implements them but try adjusting the depth to your liking.

- Resolution
720p60
- Scanlines
Normal Scanlines: ON
Scanline Depth: 80
- Width & Height
W: 877, H: 720 (4:3 FOR 16:9)
- Scalers
No Scaler: ON
Disable H Interpolation: OFF
Disable V Interpolation: ON

Are you planning on storing multiple copies of the entire SNES library?
Seriously. Every game in every region and it's less than 4GB. Throw in a bunch of other stuff like Translations/Hacks/Homebrew/Prototypes/etc and you're still under 9GB. The complete pack which has multiple copies of games in many different folders (franchises/best-of lists/publishers/etc) and it's under 18GB. An 8GB would do if you got rid of some crap and a 16GB is more than enough.

Any of you guys experimented with hybrid scanlines? There was me thinking I'm all good, then starting playing with this, tell you what, it gives you a really punchy contrasty picture, really nice stuff, with a little upping of the gamma.

Sorry, but I don't have much knowledge about ROMs. Are there quality differences between ROMs?

In a certain way yes. It depends on the quality of the ROM dump(ing). Years ago, you had so called overdumps, bad dumps, good dumps and so on for a single game. Nowadays there should be only 'good' dumps. More info here for example.

It really gives a nicer contrast, even with shades of colour, making it look distinctive, and not one single colour, I've tried about 5 games, and all look nicer with hybrid.

I'm at 140 Scanline depth, 1.08 gamma slider, this is with 1080p no scaler, with interpolation engaged.

Proteus Right now a 32GB is more than adequate in size, extremely affordable, and you'll have plenty of room to grow.
IF we get more cores, a 64GB+ isn't much more considering the investment you've made already.

Still no shipping for me yet. This company sucks ass. I ordered the machine that wasn't even sold out at the time.

This is a fucking joke at this point, ordered a month ago, nothing. And yet this is what it says on their site right now.

Inquiries just come back with canned responses that don't explain why my unit hasn't shipped yet and anyone can buy it right now and have it before me. Just poor customer service.

I also didn't get any notification. It didn't miraculously show up either. I'm beginning to think they didn't get all their systems on March 1st like they expected to. I know some of you are really angry but they did correct their info to say "orders START shipping march 1st and SHOULD be done in a few BUSINESS days" which may as well be code for "this will probably take until the end of next week". It's also why they've put up a couple of updates that keep pushing the end of ship outs a day or 2.

It's a classic tactic really, over promise and hope that things work out and everyone is happy but.. in this case, they've literally under-delivered and when you see March 1st without thinking much on it , you probably think it'll be right away. It adds to frustration seeing other people get units too , especially the people in this thread that ordered black ones last thursday who already got them. I suggest you find something else to kill time with because getting mad isn't going to make it show up any quicker. I also still don't have my SD2SNES but it's not coming via courier either.

The main point here is that I've ordered the Black one on Feb. 8th and people who ordered after me already have it. You can't chalk that up to over-promising. I'd actually mind way less if it was just them underestimating demand. The crux here is people ordering the same unit last week from same city I live in and already having the units in their hands.

I just spoke with Analogue. They are telling me that all orders shipped out Wednesday, except a small number about 20 give or take, had an issue with the shipping agent, and he will personally make sure mine is shipped tomorrow.

Well I mean I suppose that's somewhat re-assuring ? I have to assume some of us are just in the same boat as Kubev who didn't get notification until after it had already arrived. I also checked my tracking for the SD2SNES out of curiosity and all I know for sure is that it left the Ukraine on Feb. 19th. Knowing canadian customs I have to assume it's sitting there.

Gotta say though, "only 20 or so didn't ship" seems like a bit of a white lie given that their update last night was they were "hoping" to be finished shipping them out today. If it were just 20 units I can't imagine there'd be much of an issue. Either way, here's hoping it's on the way tomorrow. I won't bother contacting analog unless I still have no email or system next monday.

I understand it is frustrating and I hope Analogue takes the feedback into heavy consideration to do whatever they can to improve their pipeline even more before the next round. I'm sure everybody over there is doing their best under the circumstances. Scaling up is incredibly difficult no matter how prepared you are so I empathize with where they are at, but at the same time people just want to be informed and one or two (probably) people trying to keep the information flowing out of a support queue isn't good for anyone involved. I'm sure there have been multiple sleepless nights trying to keep it all going so just try and keep in mind it is a person on the other end of email/twitter/whatever and not just some bottomless, faceless corporate customer service hole.

It sounds like people will be getting their units relatively soon so it is ultimately good news. Here is hoping for an all around smoother round three, whenever it happens, and that everyone has their's without too much more delay.

Had a scare where I hooked my system up today and couldn't get any sound from it. Tried other HDMI ports, cables, nothing.

Long story short, I wound up having to run my TV's diagnostics to try to fix the sound. Wound up working fine after all.

I've had pretty good luck with the 20+ year old battery lottery on my games coming in from eBay. Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, and Super Metroid so far all had older saves (that I promptly wiped and kinda felt terrible for doing so).

Y'all weren't kidding about the D-Pads on those 8Bitdo controllers, though. It's weird, since the D-Pad on my SF30Pro seems fine.

When you scale something by a non-integer number you'll get shimmering during scrolling. So if you scale the vertical by 3x/4x/5x then you don't need it on for that but to keep the proper aspect ratio you end up with a non-integer horizontal scale. Start watching the following video at 12:54 to get a better idea.

Unlikely. Taber said in an interview that they weren't interested in going back to the nt mini (I assume at some point they will do a new production run of the current nt mini, considering how expensive it is on eBay). Plus, there's already the Retrousb AVS, which is far more affordable and does pretty much the same thing. The current 1.3b5 beta firmware is very stable, too, and adds H. interpolation.

They'd probably want kevtris to lay out a new board to save money. The analog video/audio would probably be eliminated, especially since they are planning to release a external DAC which kevtris will also probably have to design. I'd imagine that Analogue would rather have kevtris working on a new system like the Mega Drive rather than laying out and prototyping their third NES product in the last three years.

That's assuming they are leaving the high end aluminum chassis market behind. I'm not sure how many people would be down for another $450 NT Mini run though.

Played a little Super Mario RPG on the NT last night, it has been ages. Need a good case for it, I got it for $56 including the manual which wasn't too bad.

I've got Starfox in one of those universal game cases (came with it from ebay) but that doesn't have enough room for the Super Mario RPG manual.

I hear the shadowfox cases from customgamecases.com are pretty good, anyone have any of them? Just need a few.

Holy shit! Bad luck :(. Reminds of the time I bought a Panasonic Q from Japan. Was waiting for ages when I got a mesagge from DHL that my package was damaged in transit and was returned to the Japanese seller. I was so angry then.

Hope you'll get the SNT anytime soon :)

Which is why it's sad that this thing couldn't do 4k output. The higher the resolution, the smaller the pixels, the less noticeable the shimmering (if you had an 8k monitor there'd be virtually no shimmering). Basically, Retroarch with a good shader at 4k looks better than this device on an HDTV.

As an Nt Mini owner I am stoked to have it but I would rather they put the core out on SNT than spend time on another redesign, but that is entirely my own selfish use case for this stuff. I am looking to consolidate as much as possible so having everything in one box is my ideal.

Controllers aren't much of a problem as raphnet stuff covers everything I've needed so far, and if that DAC comes out and is quality the only thing my Nt Mini will offer me is cart play/dumping and stuff like FDS. Which is not nothing, no plans to get rid of it it anything but if I didn't have it already I'd much rather have the core on my SNT.

Unless the DAC has an HDMI passthrough in addition to the analog output so you don't have to unplug/plug things in when picking between the two then I'll be disappointed.

Worth noting that this was also some time ago that Taber said this (Possibly before the first wave of Super Nt preorders? Not sure). While I agree that Analogue likely won't revisit the Nt Mini anytime too soon I would not be surprised if the potential success of the Super Nt results in them revisiting the Nt Mini somewhere down the line. Especially when you start thinking about where Analogue goes from here. They could do a Genesis/Mega Drive but after that... then what? I don't see them ever wanting to stray away from cartridge based systems so I think PS1 is out of the question. There's the TG-16 but after doing the Super Nt and their seemingly inevitable Sega Genesis system, doing a TG-16 system would essentially be Analogue going back to making an extremely niche product instead of just making a very niche product (I'm not trying to take a shot at TG-16 fans as I am one, it just is what it is) and I question Analogue's interest in going in that direction. Add in the fact that kevtris doesn't seem to be interested in doing a TG-16 core and the fact that arguably some of the TG-16's best games are disc games... it just seems like a bigger headache than Analogue would want to deal with. I'm guessing that NeoGeo wouldn't be viable either and I want to say kevtris has said something along the lines that a N64 wouldn't be super viable for a while now so that kind of eliminates those consoles.

So the only other thing I could potentially see them do is let kevtris make that dream system of his that he's been talking about for awhile now which I believe would play games from pretty much every semi-well known (16bit and lower) cartridge based system... I think? (been awhile since I read about it) Even then, from a business standpoint, it would probably be smart (if kind of shitty) for Analogue to not include NES, SNES, Master System (which I'm just making the unsafe assumption will be a part of whatever Genesis system they sell) and Genesis cores on that thing so that they can keep on selling those systems but I'm not a business guy so maybe I'm wrong.

In short, unless Analogue wants to go down the road of making EXTREMELY niche products again (instead of just moderately niche products) I don't think they have many options after the Super Nt other than making a Genesis and revisiting the Nt Mini. And if they did revisit the Nt Mini I find it difficult to believe that they would make it with an aluminum casing again. Honestly, I think they should've dropped the metal casing when they stopped making the original Nt. If they went back and made more Nt Minis I think it would be nearly identical to the original Nt Mini except with a plastic case instead of metal, I think it'll use cheaper Analogue made controller ports by default (unless they still have some of the original higher quality ones lying around), I think it'll only do HDMI out (with an analogue adapter sold separately) and I could maybe see them reducing the number of controller ports down to 2 instead of the original's 4 but maybe not. I could also see them tweak the form factor slightly as maybe the current form factor would not work as well with plastic as it does with metal? I have no idea... but I definitely think they would do the 4 color schemes like they did with the Super Nt (NES, Famicom, Black, clear) and I think it would be priced similarly to that of the AVS or the Super Nt.

Now, I'm totally talking out of my ass here. I'm sure I'll wind up being completely wrong about the direction Analogue goes in from the Super Nt but everything I've said above is just what seems the most logical to me... thoughts? lol

I too would prefer an NES core (plus all the old NT Mini's cores) for the SNT, but I'm skeptical it'll happen.

In fact I'm mostly interested in the NT Mini for the other cores, not the NES.

If (big if) Analogue ever revisited the Nt Mini, I can almost guarantee that they'd release something with a very similar motherboard to the Super Nt's, if not straight up use the same board with applicable NES parts. The current NT mini can't do interpolation (according to Kevtris there isn't enough room), and I'm sure that's a feature they'd want to add to future versions. I'm completely okay with them dropping 2 ports; I find it mostly unnecessary on both the AVS and the NT Mini, and anyone who wants to play multiplayer could just as easily pick up a four score or satellite.

Genesis is a given (SMS support would be nice, CD would be too but I doubt it, and 32x is a no go), and I think Neo Geo is going to happen too (it's not their first Neo Geo system, after all). TG-16 is a maybe, because it's definitely a niche system, and, as others have mentioned, if it doesn't include a CD drive I don't think it'd be worth buying (I have most of the good hucard games... and that's maybe 20). I think PS1 will happen as long as Kevtris can figure out a good bios alternative (or just not include the bios in the system). 64 could happen in the future, and I think it'd benefit a lot from an FPGA considering, but it's not happening now or anytime soon.

The one I think everyone is missing, though, is the gameboy/color. Lots of fans and they already have the core (would probably require some modification for whatever FPGA they're using). The only difficult parts (probably) would be miniaturizing the pcb, making sure it has good enough battery life, and sourcing an LCD. Personally, I've long speculated that this will be the year of the gameboy. I expect Nintendo to release a Gameboy Classic, and we've also got Hyperkin releasing their version of the gameboy (which probably won't be great, but it's something).

Is this because you are using a PAL cart. PAL has more lines than NTSC and if the game is coded to use any extra height you would expect to lose more after zooming in.

Ok so you are correct PAL games do not display correctly using SmiteOfHand's recommended settings for 1080p, problem solved.

I tested my PAL SMW cart and the top was cropped off same as Mario Kart PAL cart. Runnung SMW NTSC rom off SD card via jailbreak firmware and it displays correctly. So PAL is the issue - DOH. Shame as all my carts are PAL :/

^^ Good points. Sorry, forgot about PAL res. I'll do some testing with PAL stuff and come up with some fresh recommendations for the new thread. I want to get direct screenshots as well to do some comparisons so people can pick what they like. Also trying to hold off until the new scanline stuff is done as it will likely throw everything out the window.

Speaking of, not sure if thepenguin55 saw Thor's post. Would hate if people are duplicating efforts so just calling attention.

Okay. Because of my work schedule I may not be able to do this right away (this weekend at the latest, I want to take my time with it) so if someone else is able to put together an OT before then please feel free to do so but otherwise I will get working on this ASAP.

FYI: I'm working on a Super NT |OT| and my ERA ETA is this weekend.

Ah, I'm admittedly not well educated on the differences between the Nt Mini board and the Super Nt board so I'm sure you're correct. As for the PS1... I would think the disc drive alone would be enough for Analogue to not want to do a PS1 system let alone whatever legal issues there may be with them making a PS1. Yeah, GameBoy I would imagine could be possible but yeah I don't know how difficult or costly it would be to source parts for it.

Speaking of, not sure if thepenguin55 saw Thor's post. Would hate if people are duplicating efforts so just calling attention.

Yeah, I noticed that after doing a little work and I reached out to Thor, gave them what I had, and gave them some ideas. I think the OT will be better off in their hands than mine :)

My SD2SNES showed up and I finally got a tracking number from analog ... it doesn't seem to work though , tells me it's not in the system some 3 hours later. I was half hoping it just showed up already but I guess that's not the case. Does DHL deliver on weekends or am I stuck waiting until at least monday ?

I was half hoping it just showed up already but I guess that's not the case. Does DHL deliver on weekends or am I stuck waiting until at least monday ?
Mine still isn't showing up in the UPS system, nor have I received any notification for it. smh :(
