OH MY GOD

THE TITLE SCREEN LITERALLY SAYS "PRESS X TO PAY RESPECT"

AND OMG YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE ACHIEVEMENTS & WHAT YOU UNLOCK AND THE REQUIREMENTS ARE NO LONGER SUPER ASS GRINDY

Is it just number of plays now? 1-Black Square were well annoying when you needed ridiculous combos to unlock things, and it wouldn't stack (at least in 1 it didn't).

Dunno if I should get now or wait for sale. Been a while since I last played DJMax.

Does the end game difficulty be the equalivant of expert but it HAS to be 8 buttons? I like rhythm games but there hasn't been one that's not miku since guitar hero III for me.

Hopefully the music isn't too anime for me. I tried OSU once but I needed a special keyboard to press multiple buttons at once and everything was super anime and 8 buttons only.

Every game mode (4, 5, 6 and 8 button) has 3 different difficulties, so you get hard songs for every mode. And the game is hard enough that even lower key counts still give enough of a challenge.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider the modes with more keys to necessarily be harder. 5 key songs for example often have tricky patterns that require you to figure out with which hand to press the middle button, which tlis something you never have to worry about in other modes. Even 4 key songs in general feel like they require faster button presses than 6 key, so even 4 key isn't necessarily easier than 6 or 8.

As far as the music is concerned, there's a lot of variety in the genres. There quite a bit of kpop (if that counts as anime), but also plenty of techno and the like.

If you're also looking for PC alternatives, Lunatic Rave (8 key) and Stepmania (4 key) are fairly popular and free. Osu is mostly 4 and 6 edit: 7 key honestly, and does have some non anime songs, although you will need to look for them.

Unlocks are play count, combo, getting certain scores/ranks a number of times, clearing missions etc etc etc. There's a big mix.

Also, you do know if you should get this now. The answer is yes.

FWIW, I've unlocked songs that I haven't completed the achievement requirements for just by playing a whole bunch. I got MASAI without having ever gone online for instance, and I got NB Rangers Virgin Force without completing the mission which awards it normally. Seems like you can unlock most songs by just playing, but opt to clear missions or achievements if you want to get specific ones faster.

BUY IT

LR2 supports both 6k (beatmania) and 9k (pop'n) modes as well.

As far as I know, Girls' Frontline is a Chinese gatcha game that's essentially a clone of the incredibly popular Japanese game Kancolle, while Brown Dust is a Korean mobile game published by Neowiz ( The company being DJmax) .

First time player here! Is it better to just start off from Arcade mode, or go into mission mode?

Mission mode gets pretty hard really early on, and is mostly filled with gimmicks that won't really help you learn the game. It also mixes up all of the game modes (4, 5, 6 and 8 button), while I'd instead recommend focusing on just one to start with. I'd say play either Arcade or Freestyle.

Okay. I just beat the arcade on 4 buttons the last song threw the wildcard of rotating joysticks XD. I managed just fine.

If by first time you mean no/little bemani experience, start with easy songs in arcade mode in whichever button mode takes your fancy (likely 4B at first) and just keep going
Thanks for the suggestion! I've played other rhythm games before, but first time playing DJ max.

I guess is a matter of playing a lot and getting familiar with the button layout. Thanks guys!

I like how cheeky is the intro and the "Press X to pay Respect" in the menu screen.

And man do i suck with the DS4. Need to retrain muscle memory.

God, I am so bad at this. I haven't played since the PSP. I'm starting out on 4B and I've gotten a bunch of Max Combos but I almost never get above a B.

Still lots of fun, though. And the presentation is genuinely incredible. I wish more devs took notes from this.

Is there a demo out?

Yes, demo is out in both EU and US now.

Oh yeah, are the online matches region-free? Never actually had it confirmed, unless I missed it somewhere.

I think my groove is almost completely back. After a few attempts, managed to full combo Mulch on Normal 6B with S rank. Man, that feels satisfying, even if it's the "easiest" difficulty for that song & 8B is freakin' insane. Surprised at how quickly I'm regaining the skill I had for this back in high school. Need to try Chain of Gravity on 6B Hard, that was the song where I got into "the zone" & full comboing it each time.

Also I think I can confirm that our version is the latest update, 1.11, so Dark Envy should be included when you download the DLC that's part of it.

Is there a way to have the speed offsets save per song? Would be a better option than having a one, global value...

You can set the speed on an individual song basis. Once you set a song to 2.50 it'll stay the way for only that song across all modes, difficulties, and buttons. Your probably thinking it's a global value since your still setting everything up.

I also think the game sets an average speed for tracks you haven't played yet based on the speeds you set for other tracks which you can change. I'm definitely seeing 2.50 for tracks I haven't played yet.

I was checking the game's DLC list, but there isn't a portable 3 DLC yet right ?

It's theonly one I played and there's a few songs in there I liked a lot.

EDIT: Is there any way to do that long note without using the analog ?

AND......um......there was one other song but I can't remember the name...

....and.........uuuhhhh.....boy, maybe they left Portable 3 off for a reason...

Don't y'all hate on Portable 3 too much. It had some cool tracks.

Beautiful Girl
Keys to the World
Put Em Up
Waiting for the Sun
XLASHER

...that's about it though. P3 is easily my biggest game disappointment ever.

YO, XLASHER WAS AWESOME. Especially when it was the version on the game with the remixing sounds right after the "chorus" with that build up.

Now that I think about it, think they'll include the #.2 mechanic for those songs?

Okay I brought this up in the other thread but I need to know:

Is anyone else experiencing / talking about super inconsistent frame rates when the notes stream down? I'm playing on a PS4 Pro and I've tried with Boost Mode off and on.

It's legit throwing me off. I'm very rhythmically oriented, and I get into a deep groove watching those notes stream down. I kind of blur out my vision and rely on the rate at which they fall down to know when and what notes to hit. When the frames start slowing down and the note prompts start dragging it messes me up, and it's maddening. There really is no excuse for this not being 60 fps 100% of the time, but no one else could corroborate the issue in the other thread.

Oh wow, this is actually very different from Technika Tune. Didn't expect that. Are there any licensed tracks? I really enjoyed the KARA stuff from TT.

I also haven't had any issues with the frame rate on the base PS4.

I have to be frank, I thought Hanz Up was hot garbage as a title track after Ask to Wind and Your Own Miracle being incredibly uplifting tunes for P1/P2 respectively.

I haven't had that issue at all. Playing on a base PS4.

I also haven't had any issues with the frame rate on the base PS4.

So neither of you have noticed any frame rate issues? Are you the type of people who typically notice things like this?

I wonder if it's exclusively a PS4 Pro issue. I also have the game downloaded to an external drive (the official Seagate drive). I wonder if that would make a difference... I've never had an issue with any other games on external drives, though.

I have a pro and havent noticed anything. Could try calibrating to your screen in game
