What combos didn't work? I *think* I was the highest placing ZWEI at Evo 2012, and while he was easily in the running for worst character in the game (and still got nerfed in the big patch), it was mainly because the Wolf attacks couldn't be varied. If you saw 4A you knew what Wolf attack was coming after it without any kind of mix-up beyond Wolf or no Wolf (which actually worked in some setups). If they bring him back in SC6 (please!) and just allow you to mix-up the Wolf attacks, he becomes infinitely better.
I should've put it better, and it's been a long time, but I felt like a lot of his combos were predictable (as you said with his wolf) and too low of damage to compensate. Plus a lot of his moves that felt they should combo couldn't because the recovery and/or start up frames were just long enough that they couldn't connect.

I learned all of his stuff and got fairly decent with him, but the payoff wasn't worth it at all. When it comes to SCV, I'll just stick to Siegfried and both Pyrrhas.

Exact same total as SCV, and he made it into that!

But yes, I'm aware he's not exactly a franchise staple.

Oh wow, you're right. I guess it just felt like SC5 had more. Maybe because most were base roster instead of DLC? I still don't really expect to see him, but as long as all the mainstays get in it's cool. Although I do think ZWEI has a better shot and I don't expect to see ZWEI at all.

He could put out some damage when he had meter, but otherwise I agree. If they bring him back I hope he gets some buffs, but at this point I'll take whatever they give me.

I don't even remember his Critical Edge being damaging and again, his Brave Edges didn't prevent him from being predictable.

He seems like an appropriate choice in terms of recognisability; and he fits into the game about as well as Ezio.

It's a shame the guest characters' costumes probably won't be able to be customised, otherwise you could have made him identical to William from Nioh.

Can someone explain to me what makes this character interesting to someone that never played The Witcher franchise? I've seen plenty of footage of the game and the character doesn't seem to have much of a personality.

Yeah, he fits aesthetically, but he coming across as a little "been there, done that" to me after we just came off of Ezio from Assassin's Creed.

Personality wise. He definitely doesn't have much going for him. Usually stern albeit still caring of course.
He does sort of gel with Ezio that he's a pick that isn't that out there (compared to say star wars). But there's more potential with his moveset.
Since he fights with two swords and has different witcher powers that could be incorporated into his gameplay. Such as aard (basically magic) and his mutant abilities.

As someone who's never played Assassins' Creed, I thought Ezio fit in about as well as you could. Guy was super stylish.

Wouldn't be mad if they brought back Heihachi or another Tekken rep. That Devil Jin half measure was real disappointing.

I've never played The Witcher either, but Geralt seems pretty inoffensive as a choice. He fits aesthetically, looks like he'll play "normal" (ie not like Yoda), wouldn't need to be console exclusive, and will probably bring a couple new fans to the series. You could do worse.

With the right setups you could get 60%+ with meter. You needed the meter mainly to hit confirm 1K into damage. I tried looking around for some old videos, but this MLG video was the best I could find. 1:04 in the video is where my combo ZWEI starts.

"Upcoming" is what interests me. If this was the MonHun Skin, that wouldn't count as an upcoming game.

Which rumor was he mentioned in? Just want to see what else we can hopefully expect.

I played Witcher 3, but I'm not really a big fan of the game or the character so this does nothing for me. Hoping we get some other guest characters.

I get Witcher is big, but the last major release was 3 years ago...

Feng Wei with traditional Chinese sword would be an excellent fit.

As a Feng main in Tekken, I kind of have to disagree. He's never used the sword in Tekken so it would be strange to fight with a sword in Soul Calibur. We already have one Tekken character. I'd rather see someone new instead of just adding a second one (wasn't even a fan of Heihachi either).

EDIT:

Could just be random marketing hype, but the SC FB page seems to be hinting at more character reveals very soon.

Isn't that what Hwang and Yunseong are all about? And the custom style in SC3?

I can't imagine he wouldn't return. He assumes too many roles for the series. (Rapier/Fencer, French-rep, Nightmare/Siegfried's-rival, etc...)

I think he'll be back. I'm really looking forward to what new creative ways Namco can come up with to break Raph players' spirit. SC3 and SC4 were just straight nerfs, but they really upped their game for SC5. They released a great, perfectly balanced character that everyone loved, got Raph players all excited, and then just ripped out their hearts with the patch. It's gonna be tough to top that for SC6, but I'm excited to see them try!

I know, right? Really, I just want them to bring back his dodges from SC2.

Does does Soul Edge Seigfried have a name for his Zweihander?
In Soul Edge/Blade, it's Faust, which was shattered when he fought Cervantes and "rebuilt" by Soul Edge (according to the SC2 weapon description), so now it's evil.

SC3 and on is Requiem.

It's actually really cool that they use previously introduced extra weapons for some characters' main weapons. Makes the lore feel much deeper.

I really hope this game has a custom opening cinematic like SC3 and before. SCIV's was lame and V's was lazy.

Jesus Christ. Obviously, I hope Ozawa is okay and that is of the utmost importance. But it just seems like this franchise is destined to be albatrossed by one thing or another, eternally.

For sure. His SC2 version is one of my favorite movesets in the series. 6BB SCC mixups were really cool.

I always felt that he was the victim of 6BBBBBBBB being considered "cheap" at a super casual level. It was actually totally balanced, but it seemed like they toned him down to satisfy scrub angst, which is too bad.

This really is sad, especially because he comes off as such a nice and humble guy. :(. Hope he's doing better...

That's what I meant by "modern day Taki". She used to be my favourite in Soul Edge and SoulCalibur. A badass demon hunter, with a pretty face behind that mask. I didn't mind the way she looked in SoulCalibur II either, but you could tell by the artwork where this was heading. It wasn't enough that she already had a nice figure and was wearing a skin tight outfit, they had to give her ridiculously large breasts and turn her into a pin-up girl for no good reason. Natsu isn't preferable to Soul Edge or SoulCalibur Taki, but I'd rather have her than the monstrosity that Taki had become in SoulCalibur IV.

Speaking of which, that game also ruined Setsuka for me. She suddenly went blonde and busty, wearing very revealing clothing compared to her stylish kimono from the previous game.

Seriously. What a downgrade. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Hilde has bikini armour should she show up in this game. One thing SCV did right was to tone down the fan service a bit, without making the characters unattractive or anything. It still had fan service. It just didn't look as absurd.

I like both designs to be honest. It's the striking contrast is what's great about them. If she comes back it should be p1 and p2 outfits.

Didn't something like this also happen during SC5? The director or producer complained on Twitter about Namco rushing the production of the game and feeling dissatisfied.

I'm having a hard time understanding those translations so it makes it a little hard to understand the exactly what he's trying to say. It'd be amazing if anyone who understands Japanese could gives a summary of what he was trying to say. Hope he is well.

Basically they were having 5am meetings constantly where nothing was changing because of internal conflict which made the meetings a waste of time, this terrible schedule having a negative effect on him and due to that his marriage as well.

We got a new reveal right before Evo Japan and a new build was featured there with those characters. With any luck we'll get a new character announcement today or early tomorrow with a new build at Final Round.

Possibly just wishful thinking, but with the tease on the Facebook page I don't think it's out of the question.

Also... I hope the Geralt rumor is correct since that would also mean we're getting 39 characters. If that's actually the final roster size, I've got to imagine almost everyone makes it in. Removing clones and bonus characters I count 34 to have basically every character. Add in Geralt for 35, then a few bonus characters or even platform-exclusive guest characters.

I love the idea of clones in fighting games. Not exactly sure why. Maybe it's just the idea of putting a twist on something familiar is clever to me. I always get annoyed when people complain about clones, because they always seem to be assuming that the clone was developed at the expense of a unique character, which I feel is implausible at best and just ignorant at worst.

Anyways, I really miss clones in fighting games, and wish modern FG devs wouldn't seem scared to implement them more.

To Namco suits: fuck off with this treatment. Delay your game to next year.

I'd be pretty okay with this. Less stress on developers, hopefully a more complete game (although T7 didn't really work out that way), and as a little added bonus, another year of tournament SC2!
