Dunno if this was posted yet, but Toco Toco made a short documentary about Satellite Young

Emi Kusano is the singer of the band Satellite Young, a "synthwave" music unit strongly inspired by the 80s, which she discovered through old music, clips and videos. We will follow her to Marubell-Do, a sanctuary of old photos of idols, singers and other celebrities, that still shoots 80s style photos to this day, before going to Harajuku and its iconic Boutique Takenoko, symbol of Japanese fashion and its "takenoko-zoku" fashion tribe. We will discover more about Kusano's vision of a "retro-future", a past vision of the future she is trying to recreate through her universe, combined to modern technology, and how it drives our lifestyle. Our last stop will be in the traditional district of Noge, in Yokohama, where we will head to Oeuf, a bar that features everyday performances ranging from juggling, pole dancing to tightrope walking.

They also announced there will be a Satellite Young anime releasing on Youtube March 14th.

I take it they deliver to the UK no problems?

Cannot say from experience as I'm not in UK, but I haven't heard of anyone saying otherwise. At the bottom of the page you can find their sites for different countries, but you can order from any of them. Prices often vary quite a bit between them, so I always order from whichever site has the lowest price on what I'm after. Haven't had a problem yet.

Hey everybody, I'm a huge synthwave fan, or at least I might be. I love the period from the 80's where synth's were reigning supreme in film music. Stuff like Tangerine Dream, Brad Fiedel, and most importantly John Carpenter. Carpenter is probably my favorite movie director and from his film scores to his recent albums I love his music as well. Outside of that though, I'm fairly new to the genre.

A name I see repeated from just the past few pages is Carpenter Brut, so I'm going to check them out. If anybody could direct me towards some other artists that have that Carpenter-like vibe I would really appreciate it. I'm fairly open minded though, so I'll take any recommendations really.

Thanks.

Damn, beat me to it!

I thought I might be the only fan of Plaisance, and was intending to come here and spread the good word. He's the Grand Daddy of "Beach Synth" in my book, listening to his stuff is like going on holiday for me.

Urgh, Blood Music's no refund policy is complete bollocks >_<

I could give them some wiggle room when they were small but engaged so directly with their fans, but they ain't so small anymore

On the more atmospheric horror side, I think you would dig Nightcrawler.

I do that kind of stuff too sometimes (warning, shameless self promo): https://brutalresonance.bandcamp.com/track/hell-on-wheels

Awesome, thanks for the recommendations. I've listened to Carpenter Brut's Trilogy a few times in the past few days. The last EP included has my favorite songs thus far. Invasion A.D. Is incredible.

Saw Carpenter Brut in Budapest last night, 5th show of the tour.
Great performance, fantastic live remixes of songs (Brut has definitely stepped up his musicianship and plays a 4-synth rig), cool visuals. The new songs work very well live. Don't miss them if they're playing near you.

Also, a heads-up for vinyl collectors: They're selling a limited tour edition LP (only 600 copies) in pink(-ish purple), with a bonus guitar pick.

I really like it. Cool video as usual with them and new Gunship is a good thing.

It's really interesting because it's a super tight, no-fat adaptation of Ready Player One using pixel art. The upcoming Ready Player One movie could very well be great, but even if it crashes and burns, GUNSHIP and their collaborators have made a pretty darn good adaptation.

Saw Carpenter Brut in Berlin last night and the venue was practically on fire, especially in the latter part of the set.
Probably gonna see them in Leipzig in two weeks too.

Ha, Dictator and I were both there as well - it was a brutal show. We were right up front, so I can only hope that videos of me dancing like an idiot somehow make their way to YouTube. I ache like hell today from all that jumping around, though.

Haven't heard the new Brut yet, but last week I was rotating all of The Midnight's albums. Also started listening to Mega Drive - 198XAD.

Love this genre and how artists keep finding new ways to interpret it. Also appreciate the constant suggestions in this thread, I've added a bunch to my Albums To Listen To playlist on Spotify.

Any suggestions for moody female vocals? I already listen to the usual suspects, (Perturbator, Alex, etc, etc) so think outside the box, thanks!

I've made two synthwave tracks, inspired by decades of collecting, analyzing and listening to 80's Eurodisco/Italodisco.

Hope you guys enjoy them:

PS: Both tracks done entirely with Roland Juno 60 and LinnDrum.

Lots of big synth sound, but I guess it's more appropriate to post about this in a Pop/Indie Rock thread, but... the debut album from Fickle Friends is awesome. Sure some people here will enjoy it.

I know the feeling, I'm off to see CB tomorrow in London.
Have only heard the live album and have stayed spoiler free of Instagram/youtube clips of the new tour, as long as I get to see Le Perv live I will die a happy man.

You guys are in for a treat. CB was amazing in Berlin two weeks ago. Still debating if I'm gonna see them again in Leipzig next week.

I'm about to drive from Boston to NYC to catch The Midnight.

Anybody going?

I've been playing Sunset on repeat for two weeks. The song's stuck in my head, so now I'm irritated by it lol. Would make a great karaoke track though, right?

EDIT: holy shitballs that music video. Nostalgia rush in my veins, got a bit teary eyed.

The new Gost album sounds pretty cool, but at the same time it sounds like something that could be used to torture guantanamo inmates.
I like the death metal drums. Could have been pulled off a lot better though.
