I still have 5 characters to unlock.

Li Dian's story is a bit similar to Han Dang. Not that appreciated, but tons of people do know that they're very useful to their leaders and kingdom.

So has all the hate died down?

Has anything been said about future patches and what they will address ?

Yeah i just started him too. Gonna try and power through a lot of those quests. I was never fussy on his movesets. He is fine as a character, just for whatever reason, his controls in any game never really clicked with me.

Oh man.... I have to do this soon if I want to unlock my Red Hare.

Speaking of horses, how do I unlock the rest of the horses?

It is more that people had moved on for other things if u ask me.

I havent bought the game here due to my friend telling me not to buy them yet but, if DW9 empire or DW10 come out with tons of improvement, i will be back lol.

Latest patch on PS4 fixed frame rate a little bit more, made some major QoL changes like the horse not bucking at zero stamina, officers and enemies move and attack more......A LOT more. I went into a base on PS4 and there was nearly 5 times more base and assault captains than before, counters work as intended now with enemies attacking more.

Overall we have had 3 patches since launch and it's only got more and more on par to a standard warriors game. Honestly the stories and characters feel a but more fleshed out with how everything is told. Also battles are a bit more accurate due to map design.

Overall this is slowly turning into my favorite warriors game.

Now Koei needs to release Xbox patches on par with the PS4 so I can go back to playing this on my X

After playing around with Guan Yu a bit.... The new combat system definitely allows him to be more free when compared to the older combat system. He feels more powerful, faster, and deadlier than past iterations imo.

And I'm going to agree with ViciousDS and say that this is slowly turning into my favorite Warriors game.

My review of the game is up. Is it against the self-promotion rule to post a link to it here?

I played as him earlier in the week and noticed he unlocked a load of characters. I already had quite a lot of characters unlocked from playing through Wei and some of Wu so I was quite surprised. I thought it was retroactively unlocking them because of the changes in the patch, but I guess not, lol.
By the time the patch was released, I had already unlocked over three quarters of the roster. I'm not sure how that would affect the method to unlock the remaining characters. Certainly, the last few times I've unlocked characters, I haven't unlocked more than one to three at a time.

I think Cao Cao, and Liu Bei and Pang Tong's stories need to be completed for the other two horses. Red Hare's really all you need though if you just want a fast horse

Damn. Well, I guess it's time to grind then :/

I really just want Cao Cao's horse so that I can't be knocked off of my horse, but I also want to unlock all the horses so it is what it is.

I've finally confirmed there's no death scene for Pang De. He just dies off screen. He's mentioned as having been captured by Guan Yu but not before somehow having "cut open a path" somewhere that allows Xu Huang to magically sneak/teleport into Fan Castle before he's confirmed dead by Cao Pi/Xiahou Dun. That's so damn lame, especially since he already gets a nothing ending (he just talks to Cao Ren and Yu Jin and then charges at the enemy as the screen fades to black).

No shame, but I just Beginner mode it through Guan Yu's story and main missioned the whole whole thing. I will say that I enjoyed his hurricane attack at the end of his Square string.

I just wanna unlock the horses and then start having some dumb fun exploring the map and being OP.

Guan Ping's moveset was pretty fun, though his unique trigger attack string is pretty weak. The trigger attack itself is useful for catching distant enemies before they can guard though. Really, it's the greatsword's default knockdown trigger and flow string that take the cake, plus a really high damage special (though you have to combo into it or officers will dodge away) and aerial musou.

In the future, I hope they adjust the damage of certain flow strings and trigger attacks so that none feel too inferior to the others. I find myself avoiding the stun strings for the past few characters I've played as (Liu Shan, Guan Ping). They both carry the enemy far, but don't do much damage. The usefulness of the first attribute is questionable to begin with, but more than that, it just doesn't outweigh the lack of damage. They don't all have to serve the same function, but their presence shouldn't feel without purpose. Maybe one string does more damage focused in a smaller area, and the other just the opposite.

I wonder when we will start getting season pass details. Im hoping the new weapons come sooner rather than later. My poor Wang Yi having to borrow Sun Shangxiangs chakras makes me a sad panda.

The latest patch really seems to have made the game run more smoothly for me. Image quality looks better, too- looks less blurry on my TV and sharper now.

How do I equip alternate costumes, BTW? Not the casual outfits the but the pre-order DLC outfits for some of the female characters? Do you have to have a house for that?

Yeah, you need a hideaway. They come with a wardrobe by default that you can access to change your costume.

Really wish there was actually a break between time periods/battles to go wander without war going on.........which is actually how I thought the game was going to be. But you are always technically in a chapter. They should have added prologues/prelims before each chapter where sidequests should actually be, with random rebels raiding towns/outposts and thats when you can upgrade your stuff....search for materials. Would remove a lot of the pain and clutter of the map too.

Plus pre-chapters/prologues would allow more in depth interactions between each characters. This way all the optional stuff is thrown out of the way to those who wish to bum rush and they don't have to see any of it on the map while playing. Almost similar to DW8 in the camps before a battle.....except this would encompass the whole map.

Trying to find one, problem is most people are not on chaos, but on lower difficulties movement is much better. Officers actually go to other bases along with captains. Meaning off screen activity is much higher as well.

However, the AI is still......well dynasty warriors AI. Meaning they can be cheesed and smoked like any other game.....especially if you are overpowered you might not get touched.

I hve a feeling it will get future touched upon more. But if you are expecting to constantly needing to guard and be careful......most likely you won't be impressed even before or after. Still a bit of ways to go.

I just want enemies to at least not be still, hell was watching a video earlier with SBF and the waves just stood there, not even attempting to encircle the character which would be nice even(i dont expect top tier AI, but i expect something close to the older games)

Enemies definitely still stand there sadly a good amount of the time, no circling....just happens to be if you are in the cone in front of their vision, they will swing at a higher rate.

I didn't watch that whole video but I don't recall them switching the game's difficulty there (also unrelated, Pat is hella lame for asking if Zhao Yun is Lu Bu)

I've personally been playing on Hard and while the mooks don't reach DW3 levels of aggressive, they can be much more active than on Normal (that difficulty in this game is way easier compared to Normal in other DW games). The problem is that it's only "can"; mook AI can be really inconsistent, sometimes they'll interrupt me constantly in between attacks, other times they will just do nothing. It's hard to tell if maybe that's just morale at work or if the AI is getting confused by weird stuff with the game's open world structure (like having to fight on weird terrain or castle layouts, or if a mission is just being buggy) but yeah it's really inconsistent.

Also more enemies on screen definitely doesn't help lol. More enemies means, less AI logic. So they seem to get more aggressive the less there are.....

Hmm I'm not sure if I'm getting really unlucky or if this is a bug, but I've noticed named officers are not dropping anything when they die. I've already tried changing characters (from Xun Yu to Man Chong), I'll see if this persists from chapter to chapter as well.

EDIT: Yeah it's still an issue, even after moving between chapters.

Not even money? That doesn't sound good.

What system and version?

PS4, not pro. And I think it's the current version (I don't really pay attention to updates)

I quickly recorded some gameplay:

I also need to make a correction; it's not just the officers. It seems like all enemies don't drop anything. I only noticed when I decided to equip the item magnet accessory and realized that I wasn't picking up anything (I have it equipped in the video as well)

Ugh, finally picked up this game. Been looking forward to it for over a year. This game is just bad.

I have been a fan since DW3. God damn this game is just awful. (my biggest complaint is enemy still behave like DW2. come on its 2018)

I believe all veteran DW fans should check it out, albeit with an open mind, as everything they once knew has been revamped/changed massively. Once you pick up the general flow/structure, it tends to click for folks that are willing to give it a chance.

I don't know when it happened exactly, but it seems like enemies are finally dropping items again. I want to say it fixed itself when I finished Man Chong's story, but I'm still not sure what caused it to happen

Anyway, some notes about my current completion of Wei:

-Man Chong was really fun to play as. He seems to have an interesting personality but it doesn't really shine when you're actually playing as him. He also only becomes really active as a strategist later on, early on he's overshadowed a lot by the Xun's and Guo Jia.

-Xun Yu and Xiahou Dun have had quite a few unique cutscenes compared to other Wei characters

-Xu Huang is rather fun to play, but his story is pretty generic. The only unique cutscene I noticed for him was shortly after his intro. He interacts with Guan Yu there, unfortunately it goes nowhere as Xiahou Dun ends up killing Guan Yu in Wei's overarching story. Well at least he's buddy buddy with Man Chong

-Guo Jia has been my least favorite Wei character to play so far. His triggers just aren't great imo (though his stun trigger is a really easy infinite). I hope he gets decloned soon

-I just started Wang Yi and I absolutely hate these dumb hoops. They don't fit Wang Yi at all (she should have gotten a weapon she could at least stab people with), I also hate how they work in gameplay since I end up auto-chasing officers a lot with the moveset. I really hope she's getting decloned with DLC

Yup. She's one of my fave characters. I was quite bummed she is a clone sharing Sun Shangxiang's circles. I was able to adapt to her moveset just fine. But it sucks as a fan of hers.

May be kicking up a hornets nest. But i find it quite eyerolling, since the release of DW9 i have been seeing those a lot of those "ive been a fan since..." posts. Like its some sort of justification for their opinions being more valid. Its okay to not like what this version of the game offers, but there is a lot of long time musou fans who are enjoying it as well.

Cosigned. Also another reason why Jim Sterling's DW9 videos are so obnoxious. People latch onto him like he's the One True Musou Fan or some nonsensical bullshit like that.

Jim Sterling is one of the few "games press" people that likes these games and he has a big following. It's no surprise that people go to him for his opinion on these games and his videos are referenced by fans.

I remember watching Jim's video on Dynasty Warriors: Godseekers and that certainly made me not want to buy that game. I haven't watched Jim's DW9 videos myself, though. I wanted to form an opinion by playing the game myself.
On the topic of Godseekers, I didn't find it that bad. The story goes in a predictable direction and it's not the most deep in terms of strategy RPG gameplay, but I thought it was a decent time.
