So I played 0 and loved it. Played Kiwami.

My current plan is to wait for Kiwami 2 to come here, but after that I hit a snag.

Should I wait for Yakuza Kiwami 3, or should I just pick up Yakuza 3?

I hear there were some issues with the localized version of Yakuza 3, is that true?

4 and 5 I have through PS+ and I was thinking of playing them that way.

Sorry if this comes up all the time.
You should just pickup Yakuza 3.The issue the localized version has is cut content.

Just pick up 3. There's no guarantee we'll get Kiwami 3 at all, and if we do you'll be doing some serious waiting before moving forward with the series, which would be silly since 3 is perfectly playable as is (much better than Y2 and especially 1).

Cut content was all mini game stuff like hostess clubs and whatnot if I'm not mistaken, pretty negligible stuff if you ask me unless you're really into that kind of content.

Can you only play Yakuza 3 currently if you have a PS3?
Seems only 4 and 5 are on PS Now while the rest are on PS4 in some way

I think Kiwami 3 isn't coming soon so you better play them now.

Anyone have an idea how many sub stories are in the demo (completed three this far)?

Yeah, i still have that PS2 game the dub is crazy, it was Michael Madsen and Mark Hamill. And they sure like to say "fuck" a lot.

This is the first time I've actually heard the Y1 dub. The VA was surprisingly not that fuckin bad, some decent fucking choices for most of the god damn characters. For the time I'd say the dub was pretty fuckin good. I'm sure they spent quite a pretty fuckin penny on motherfucking Madsen and motherfucking Hamill. Majima is just fuckin wrong though, he sounds... fuckin way the fuck off. Jesus fuckin christ am I glad they got rid of the motherfuckin dub on these motherfuckin games though.

For those who have played kiwami 2, how much content is there compared to Yakuza 0 and Kiwami? Kiwami seems to have much less content than 0, so I'm curious how kiwami 2 fares in comparison

Kiwami 2 felt like it had more content than Kiwami did. Kiwami took me 60ish hours to 100% (with the completion list) while Kiwami 2 took me 100 hours pretty much on the dot (not counting the Majjima chapter, that took a couple of extra hours, but that's because I didn't rush it).
Kiwami 2 still has less content than 0 though, that game (0) just had a ton of content thanks to its two playable characters and plenty of side stories and mini games to clear, Kiwami 2 isn't quite up there in terms of content. But its still got quite a few mini games to clear, a fair number of side stories (76) and two rather large "another drama" styled missions to clear (Cabaret Club management and Majima Construction). Kiwami 2 also has the Enforcer missions and mini bosses that are located on the main game map - these also take a while to completely clear as there are a ton of Enforcer missions (think small linear "courses" that take place on previous set pieces and in both Kamurocho and Sotembori that task you with taking out all the enemies and one boss character - just like Streets of Rage or Final Fight). The mini bosses are easy to beat, but they require you to beat up tons of goons while exploring the game world so its in your best interest to tackle them when they unlock and then keep getting in fights after that to unlock the next one (I did this naturally, I had no idea how to spawn them, I just got into loads of fights).

I'd say Kiwami 2 felt streamlined in terms of content. There's a lot of stuff there to do, but it doesn't feel overwhelming like 5 did for example. You'll be able to easily clear it all if you just do a bit here and there in each chapter.

Tender moments with Kiryu and Sayama were what made Yakuza 2 and Kiwami 2 so memorable. <3

Haven't played any version of Y2 yet, but the little moments of intimacy in Ishin did a lot to ground Ryoma (kiryu) in the world. Having him be such a monk in games proceeding and anteceding in my experience kind of robs him of the emotional depth I think he should deserve.

Agreed. I loved the chapter where Ryoma and Oryo spent time together because she likes him despite the fact that he joined the Shinsegumi.

Another terrific highlight from Yakuza 2 were the ferocious battle between two feral tigers:

I think the Yakuza community is a special case because a good portion of our members haven't played any games outside of 0 and Kiwami so we should be considerate and try not to talk critical plot points outside of spoiler tags. It does feel weird to avoid old games but it's just a small gesture that helps make newcomers feel welcome.

And to be fair our fellow some posts above posted a video with some fairly spoilery stuff from 2 like it was nothing... (no, not the tiger).

Yeah, seriously. I know he put a lot of work into those videos and also the Kabukicho / Kamurocho location tour, which is great and highly recommended if you haven't seen it already. However, he got asked multiple times to respect the spoiler (I know the OP doesn't have one but people mentioned it during the release of Kiwami 2 to be mindful of spoilers...) as well as the self-promotion rules. You can just put the video behind a link and don't have to embed it. As Opa-Pa mentioned, a lot of people in this community haven't played many of the games outside of 0 and Kiwami, so everyone should respect the spoiler rule and put those details behind the spoiler tag. I think that's only fair.

I tried to tell him to slow down with the self-promotion and he wouldn't listen. He just blew me off (and blocked me on Twitter). He never contributes anything to the conversation and just wants to plug his content. It got annoying quickly. Out of curiosity, I opened up the old forum to check the Yakuza thread there and it's only hime posting links to his videos.

i always just skipped over his posts on here but one day he made like 15 posts on a single page so i reported him and i think the mods have been on him ever since (and rightly so)

Is that the side story that features the guy
waving around his bloody selfie stick all the damn time? As that side story really cracked me up
.

Pointless fact - the end of the spoilered side story I mentioned is a recycled scenario from the very first Yakuza 6 demo (the tech demo that was included in Kiwami 1). It was a cool little shout out to that first demo.

Compilation of all the gym workouts from the demo.

I hope they expand on this in the next game I really love the gym feature.

Just finished Yakuza 0's main story. Had to say something about it.

Took a while, maybe too long in the last third of the game. But damn does it deserve to take your time. Dialogues, camerawork, story... all insanely good. Amazing game. Chills on multiple plotpoints. I love every character. What a game.

Edit: how much does it matter what order i play the games in?
If i start with 4 and 5 and 6 and go back after, is it ok?

Edit2: shit i realized yakuza 4 and 5 are not on the ps4. And the demo for 6 starts off with
some neice i never met. Sucks.
Should i just keep going?
I dont have a ps3 with me...

6 has less than 0 for sure, probably the "least" content its had since Yakuza 4 maybe? I say "least" as it still has loads of stuff to do, its mainly older mini games that I'd played several times over that were cut and replaced with different stuff, so I personally didn't mind as I enjoyed the new stuff. But I know its not to everyones liking. Side stories is also the lowest number from the series, so in that regard there are less to do as well. Its probably the quickest plat in the series outside of the PS3 HD remaster of Yakuza 1 (but its way easier to plat than Y1 HD!)

That said, I still put a good 100 hours into it. The arcade alone stole a load of my time, its the best arcade hands down in Yakuza history.

I'd put 6 at +/- Ishin levels of content. 2 full sidegames, roughly the same number of minigames if not more in 6 overall. There's less substories in 6 but it's mitigated by the arcade I would say.

You might be right. Its been a while since I played Ishin so I can't say for sure. Then again, Ishin had a lot of grinding so that definitely clouds my judgement on it, as I remember repeating some tasks over and over for Dragon materials and interacting with cats/dogs/chickens/Haruka an awful lot!

So playing the demo of Y6 and doing some side stuff. Sad that so many stuff is closed off but oh well :(.

I started the Nyaa cafe quest (and got 6 of each food and 1 of the best food since that's all I could afford).

Also baseball is hard in this game :(. Getting 7 home runs on beginner mode is hard. Challenge mode is a little easier but I doubt I could do anything past beginner :(.

Also started a substory:

Haruka's Biggest fan. This girl is totally adorable and made some good points to her mum making her stutter/not know what to say lol.

Gotta say, I'm okay with less substories if they are all voice acted.

edit: Noooo, the substory requires me to go to Club Sega which I can't do in the demo :(

I'm still working on finishing up Real Estate and Hostess Clubbing before I can finish the main story, I feel like I need to see that through, especially the first one.

The phone dates are REALLY irritating. That was purple, dammit!

It's only the last home run course and challenge course that is random. Everything else goes in a set order, so you can just write down where on the grid the ball goes every time.

Yeah man for sure. Ishin is the only game in the series I didn't feel a little bad about missing some of the content. I love the shit out of the game, but the grind is real as fuck.

Well, yakuza community is rather small, following this thread is enough for me to keep myself updated about RGG related news and to have intersting discussions.
