How about a pull up to refresh for long web pages?
Nice. I could dig it.

Whatever makes it easier for one-handed use.
Getting to the bottom of a thread, then having to tap the reach up and tap the top line to get the reload button to appear, then tap again (or pull down slightly, and tap reload button) can be annoying. Using Reachability is annoying as well.

My iPhone X usually does atleast 3 random soft reboot per day. Does anyone experience this or know the cause?. Running latest OS version and all my apps are updated.

Screen goes black, spinning circle then lock screen. Can still use already opened apps after this.

Yeah, that's Springboard (the home screen) crashing. The phone itself isn't losing power or rebooting or anything.

Hasn't happened to me except when I'm on a beta (which I currently am), sounds like you have some software weirdness going on

Is there a way to dismiss notification pop ups in a way that will mark them as done? If I flick up to dismiss a message it sits there marked unread with a badge

Nope, I think messages is the only app that clears the badge when you clear the notification. One of the many things that needs to overhauled in notifications.

Decided to sell my 8 Plus, so I got one of these yesterday...I'm extremely impressed. The gestures are wonderful and Face ID is, for the most part, exceptional. My initial impression was that it seemed flakier than I'd like, but it seems to have learned & improved in little over 24 hours.

Gets even better after a few weeks. At the start it wouldn't recognize me if I blocked my mouth (which happens a lot as I have a severe dust allergy and I often have a handkerchief pressed up to my nose), and now it unlocked fine. Same with wearing a cap and hoodie over it when I'm outside in the rain or cold.

The only thing that's a drawback is that it's a bit too slow compared to touch id, but I'm sure they'll fix that in a generation of maybe two. Hopefully the next iOS will allow you to go to the home screen without swiping up.

So I'm done waiting for Inbox to update. I guess Google will drop support for it entirely pretty soon. I wish they stopped releasing and dropping services as much as they do, it's incredibly frustrating.

I'm moving on to Spark, which does exactly the same luckily, but is actually supported and has fullscreen on iPhone X.

Just got myself a mint 256GB X and trading it to a friend for his flawless 64GB X on 11.1.2 :D

Feels great to be back on iOS after a month or two with the S8 (yuck).

Looking to buy a saddle brown Apple Leather case. Anyone have any experience with it and can tell me how the color fades over time?

It's not completely ready so be careful. I caught a boot loop 2 mins after installing Electra 1.0. Now I'm stuck on 11.3 and hating stock iOS.

Ah that's a shame. I hear 1.02 finally brings Cydia. Definitely going to be tip toeing around though until it's closer to absolutely stable since it seems totally different from my last JB (Yalu on 7+).

1.0 had Cydia but there are a lot of things that can send you into a boot loop. I would wait for Coolstar to get the Cydia fork Limitless up and running.

Thanks for the heads up :)

I'm definitely going to wait till Cydia is up and running close to normally. Would have been interested in manually installing tweaks out of desperation back when it was first released but I can wait since it doesn't seem too far off.

Had one on since launch - tried lots of clear case but didn't really get in with them. Colour holds up wel so far. Back is a tiny bit darker than new maybe but still very clean. Sides a bit darker than that. Front lip gets dark fairly quickly - probably more friction in a pocket? Holding up well though

Yeah I switched to mail but I hate the ads, and I preferred the way the different categories were combined in inbox. But general use is ok - same swipe gestures (I like I can swipe either direction to archive) and still inherits the same primary/updates/promotions as inbox

With the new leaks I'm glad I held off this phone

It felt small in my hands, add it's a transition phone, and tons of updates to just support it.

I made the right decision holding out for the X+

Now that's my new phone

Hm, considering buying another brand new X with iOS 11.1.2.
I would still wait for Saurik's JB/Cydia update, considering how he said that further Cydia updates will be incompatible with the Coolstar JB.

Can anybody tell me how to get the iPhone to play YouTube videos in browser like on Android? I don't want a video to take over my whole screen just because it's playing.

Yup, I was waiting all this time till it was fully ready before jumping back to iOS. Stock iOS is good but not for me.

Why is stock IOS not good?

I need to make a decision between the X and Pixel 2 XL, by tomorrow, and am finding it hard. X looks utterly gorgeous, amazing screen, integration with my MBP. While Pixel has the amazing google assistant.

these are completely different operating systems. They are difficult to compare. As someone who carries both pixel 2 and X at the same time, X is literally magnitudes better in almost every single way, in almost every single category. And the things the pixel 2 does better aren't worth the tradeoffs.

But again, these are 2 completely different operating systems. If you want the best display, the best apps, the best support, the best stability/longevity, Face ID, etc.. then get the X. If you want a slightly better camera (depending on the situation), and the ability to customize everything (though I think less and less people are doing this these days) then get the pixel 2..

When you're discussing very different operating systems it all comes down to what you value.

Thank you so much for this. Ordering my X now. Ability to customize isn't really important to me. I've been spending a lot of time thinking about this. Glad to have made up my mind.

upside about iPhones is the resale value is always so great that if worst case scenario you don't like it for some reason, you could sell it for a ton and get a pixel.

Stock iOS is fine. I just happen to love tinkering with my devices and jailbreak offers a lot of tweaks to make the overall experience a lot better for me personally. I also love theming in general for both iOS and Android. Here's an old setup I had on my 7 Plus to get an idea.

The Pixel 2 XL is a great phone aside from the screen lottery and was one of my original choices as well before I got a nice deal on the X. It really depends on your personal usage and what you want out of your phone. A majority of people just want a fast phone, great camera, and generally an all around great device which both phones can offer. The iPhone brings you arguably higher quality apps, screen, great customer support and of course iMessage haha. The Pixel gives you a lot more control of your phone outside of the box and heavy integration into the Google ecosystem. You really can't go wrong, but at this very moment, I'd recommend the X.

After getting used to Samsung Pay I could never see buying another Android phone that doesn't have it. I have a second drivers license in my car so most days when I'm on my Note8 I can just leave the house with just that phone and Samsung Pay works almost everywhere I can use a credit card at. It's the one thing about my Note that I miss when I'm using my iPhone X.

My mail app basically refreshes after 20 seconds of app switching now. it's maddening and I don't know how to fix it. being able to cross reference emails and safari are big uses for me.

Having had the iPhone X since launch I regret buying it simply because of Face ID. It only works about 80% of the time and that is when you have to be completely still and look at it. It's just inconvenient to use your for something quickly when you get your phone out. When I wake up to check my phone I'm half asleep with my eyes and it's so annoying to be wide alert to get it to unlock.

I wish I had gotten the 8 looking back. Face has more problems than touch and touch was so easy quick. I will probably get rid of this phone once the new ones come out and one of them will at least have Touch ID I hope?

I don't think the plan is to continue with Touch ID on any future flagship phone. That ship has sailed.

To echo others, yeah, I don't think TouchID is coming back.

However, the first version of TouchID was much crappier than the current version of TouchID in new Apple devices. They might not have improved FaceID tech in the upcoming 2018 iPhone, but perhaps next year they will. There's always hope!

I find significant pros and cons to both. Touch ID was useless with wet/greasy fingers (I cook a lot) or when using gloves. Face ID works invisibly most of the time with me, but is a pain to use in bed or if the phone is resting on a table.

Hopefully they find a way to include both Face ID and Touch ID at some point. I'd never want to go back to Touch ID alone, but it would be nice to compensate for the times Face ID can't be used.

I can't deal with my 5s anymore. It's so fucking slow and laggy, and the battery is a mess. Whenever I leave the house, I have to put it into power saving mode. And if I intend to actually use it, I have to take a charger with me anyway. It drains like crazy. And I'm talking exclusively about normal usage, no videos or gaming or anything like that.

The thing is, I originally planned to wait for the successor to the X to they could iron out some kinks. But I can't keep my 5s yet another six months. I'm just sick of it. So..
1) I could get the X now and the X2 in Fall. No, I'm not gonna spend that much money.
2) I could get a different model now (6, 7, 8) and the X2 in Fall. Well, it's still a lot of money.. not sure about that.
3) I could get the X now and skip the X2.
4) Android.

I'm tending towards option 3, but I'm gonna be really pissed if the X2 turns out to be vastly improved in some way (e.g. Face ID). Anyone in the same boat?

Get a battery replacement on the cheap and power through to the X2. You can even buy it online and replace it yourself if you're handy.

Other than that and than to buy a cheap used phone to power through as well I'd say get an X and move on. You made it to 2018 with a 5s. You won't die with an iPhone X all the way to 2019 or 2020. Or even 2021. The biggest advancements are already there I believe (the display and Face ID). The star of 2018 will be basically the Plus size.

Wasn't one of the main things with Face ID that it's much easier to improve with software updates unlike Touch ID?

I'm trying to update a new iPhone X straight out of the box to the latest iOS, but I think something's wrong. The phone is activated and connected to wi-fi. When I go to software update, it gets stuck on "checking for update" until it errors. It doesn't ever complete. So I tried the iTunes route and again it tries to contact the apple server but then errors and unable to connect to the servers. Think it's busted?
