Got the EU demo of 6 and found a few sub stores last night, the AI one was especially enjoyable.

So I've played Yakuza 0 and Kiwami. Is there any other game I should play before 6 comes out or am I good?

Well since Kiwami is basically 1 you've only played the first two of the 7 main story entries so there will be things that will be over your head. Plus 6 picks up right where 5 left off so you may be a little lost there.
Sure, you can still do it, but you may miss some story beats. At the very least I would suggest playing 5 as it is a direct lead-in.
Or you could just look up story summaries for 5 and/or the rest on YouTube.

Yep Mahjong can be a bitch, i'm not touching it again anytime soon.
I didn't had a problem with the Full Straight but the with Hanneman oh boy.
Guess I was lucky because I got Hanneman on my first few tries but Full Straight... Literally impossible.

6 picks of where 5 left. 4 is kinda like a prequel to 5. But you can just read the summaries for 4 and 5 in 6 if you can't play them now.

I got a PS3 so I can play 3, 4 and 5. I'm thinking maybe get 5 before 6 comes out then.

So I'm sure no one wants to talk spoilers, but I was just on GameFAQs looking at some old thread and I had no idea people hated 6 (I know there's the guy here who hates 4 or 5 lol). What's wrong with 6 in particular?

From what I know (I've been trying to not spoil myself) people were letdown with the ending, the engine switch and the lack of side content.

I imagine there's some larger issues im not aware of though

Eh, pretty much nailed the main complaints some people have. Some didn't like the story, didn't like that Kamurocho has a few walled off areas (Champion and Hotel Districts) and that some legacy mini games were cut. Plus there are those that don't like the engine because: 30FPS, tearing (only on base consoles), the combat, lack of weapons, lack of heat moves.
Personally bar the lack of heat moves and weapons the other complaints don't really matter too much to me. I loved 6, loved one bit of the ending very much (its incredibly powerful, that's all I'm saying) and I love the new engine. Some cut mini games didn't bother me because many returning ones are changed up and the new ones are really fun (or at least I thought so).

Oh, and some people hated that the number of side stories is smaller than before (only 50) though bear in mind these ones are fully voiced, and many have some fantastic storylines to them, so again, I didn't really mind.

The game has its issues sure, but I still really enjoy it for what it is.

Is it a shorter Yakuza game by comparison?

I never really checked my timer, so I can't say for certain. Story is pretty lengthy, especially at the end. Not as long as 5 (nothing is) but its still a decent size. Content wise its up to you. The completion list trophy for this game is just clearing 100 goals (I think it was 100) but not every goal. So no 100% target (which is actually a good thing, that really would take forever!) so you can pick and choose what you do. The rest of the trophies are your standard Yakuza stuff (basically just experience/try everything in the game). Assuming its not changed from the Japanese version, you don't even technically need two playthroughs for the plat. Create a save game before the final boss and then beat the game. Then reload said save, change the difficulty to Legend via options and win the game again. Job done!

So compared to 0 and 5, yes its shorter. Compared to Kiwami? I don't think so, much of Kiwami was Majima padding anyway, that was a quicker 100% for me. Kiwami 2 reverts some of the above (the completion list, plus adds more stuff to do) so its back being a 100 hour playthrough to hit 100% completion!

The story complaints seem to be the loudest. I'm sort of surprised - I honestly wonder if the import scene will influence sales of the game more than a leaked full game.

I keep debating with myself if I should buy the English release of Yakuza 6. Basically all my favorite scenes in the story uses Yamashita Tatsuro songs and that intro replacement does nothing for me. Maybe I'll just replay the Japanese version...

I guess I'll have to buy it now since I'm one of those who got the US "demo". Having a lot of fun replaying this. Have some issues with the translation and the music (surprise) though
It's really weird how they've left "aniki" untranslated without explaining what it means. It's just treated like an honorific. It wasn't like this in previous games right? Makes the ending of ch 3 when Nagumo starts calling you aniki seem like a bad anime fansub.
Speaking of, that scene feels just tonally wrong and lacking in any impact without the Yamashita track. They just use the generic goofy Nagumo music (the one in this scene) instead...
I'm dreading all the other scenes with Yamashita music...

Been doing this ridiculously stupid telephone game in Yakuza 0 now for about 2 and a half hours. I have gotten all substories from it except this one
#34 - Sakura Shock
It requires u to only get 1 of 3 girls for it to trigger. I have not gotten 1 and I have just been answering and playing through every girl that answers. Either im doing something completely wrong, or I have the worst luck in the world

There are some very, VERY subtle hints that can clue you in to who is who. I was in the same boat as you, wasted way too many hours, and eventually just looked up a guide.

I just completed 0.
Such a good good. Really really enjoyed it.
Took a while to get into it, didn't really understand it at first, but it clicked after going back to it.

First things first, here's my pre-order receipt.

m0gEuLT.jpg

I know I don't have to post it, but in case folks of Sega's localization team, who did a fantastic job with Yakuza 6 yet again from what I saw in the game until now (huge kudos to those guys. They're going above and beyond!) are reading this team: Yes of course I have pre-ordered the game! Wish I could go for the limited edition, but I don't have enough money to buy a fancy special edition sadly. So the digital edition it is (I switched to mostly digital this generation anyway). I'm pretty confident that most Yakuza fans are loyal and will keep their pre-orders. We all know the struggle and the pain we had to go through with the series. I'm a huge Yakuza fan since the very first game and I will always support the series.

That being said, yes I dowloadd the "US demo" and yes, I will keep playing it offline. I know it's a shitty situation for Sega, but at least in my case I already bought the game. So I'm not running away with a free game, instead it feels more like those broken street date situations, when a retailer sold highly anticipated games 1-2 weeks earlier like it happened with Metal Gear Solid V or Final Fantasy XV. Granted, it's a different situation here (false upload 6 weeks in advance) but again, they're at least not losing my money. I just hope that all the other people who downloaded the demo will do the same and still buy Yakuza 6 (or keep their pre-orders) the day it releases. Not only does the franchise need all the support it can get, it also deserves it.

As for a little personal note: the delay to April affected me pretty bad actually. Yakuza 6 is easily my most anticipated game this year. The delay to April meant that I will most likely not be able to play it for some time around launch (or at least not as much as I would love to) due to a lot of unfortunate private stuff going on, which is why the delay made me a bit sad. So being able to play it now is a pretty lucky turn of events.

I will keep my impressions mostly behind spoiler tags and also low-key. I know a lot of people are anticipating the game and of course I won't ruin it for anyone, since I know how grateful I was that nobody spoiled it for me after it came out in Japan.

I did play it until the start of chapter 2 so far -- and I'm already in love. It feels so good to play despite some framerate issues, some screen tearing and missing anti-aliasing here and there. All the quality of life improvements are great, though. And I never knew that having seamless transitions walking in- and outside of buildings or when intiating battles would add so much to the immersive experience. I want to believe that they put even more attention to detail into the interiors of buildings this time, which just feels great. I mostly did side stuff like playing mini games (the live chat is hilarious, got a great laugh out of it so far), arcade games (all the arcade games from Yakuza 0 plus Puyo Puyo and Virtua Fighter 5? Heck yeah!) and like 3 sub stories, which all have been great, emotional and also funny so far. Playing Virtua Figther 5 on my PS4 just feels surreal, love it. I have tons of fun exploring Kamurocho, spotting all the different new things despite the Champions and Hotel District being blocked off due to "construction work" (nice in-game reason btw!). It sure changed here and there since 2012 (Yakuza 5), with some modernizations too. Looking forward to seeing the Hiroshima town for the first time. The new experience system felt a bit overwhelming at first, but it's easy to figure out. The gym minigames are funny and the music that plays when Kiryu gets his sick gains is hilarious.

Quick word to the story so far (chapter 1 and beginning of chapter 2 spoilers):

So far I'm enjoying it, despite pretty much everyone being in a bad or sad situation. Even Kamurocho itself is going through some very rough times. It really feels like a final chapter in a way. Seeing the kids in the orphanage gave me tears in my eyes. It was such an emotional moment seeing them again and especially when they welcomed Kiryu. Even after I beat Yakuza 5 I thought that Haruka acted quite naive, thinking that revealing her past wouldn't hurt her or her loved ones at all. I think the game has a pretty realistic depiction of what would happen in real life too, with the media and people on social media reacting like they did. In a way Haruka acted very similar to Kiryu at the beginning of Yakuza 5, leaving the Orphanage in hope that ending her connection with the kids would give them a brighter future. The moment Kiryu learns about Haruka's accident and condition was heartbreaking. Especially when he met Haruto for the first time. I couldn't help and shed some tears there. That little baby looked so happy and adorable, not knwoing what happened to his mother. I really hope Haruka pulls through. Don't do this to me, Yakuza team!!

I'm looking forward to digging more into it. The completion list seems doable for me this time, so I might even go for the platinum this time (but that won't be before long after release I think. But as with every Yakuza game, I will do all the sub stories before beating the main story).

I know we don't have to tell this to longtime Yakuza fans, but for everyone else who might've come into this thread after trying out the demo (and maybe even getting the full version by accident in the process):

Please support the series. It deserves it! It needs it!

Chapter 3 so far, no spoiler, but i'm really digging the story, and for a Yakuza big fan, this is fan service to the maximum so far, A LOT of detail to remember pieces of every previous game.

Jealous of you guys who are able to play it. >_<

Anyway, is there an item or something in Y6 for finding substories? Just checking because I didn't try to hard I admit but I didn't find any in the demo so I'm curious since well... I can import this save into the full game so looking for some substories that are in the EU demo sounds like a good idea.

Should we have a Y6 impressions/spoiler thread? It seems almost mean to discuss this while the majority of people in this community thread still have to wait and simply watch us talk about our experiences.

Could have a prerequisite to post in that thread, that you gotta clearly state you're going to/have bought it, or something.

6's side stories are so easy to come across, you really don't need a guide. Out of all the side stories in the game, I only needed a guide to find one, and that was due to it apparently only spawning at night in Kamurocho (and most of the time the game either takes place during the day, or you have one of your buddies with you which kinda makes starting side stories hard/impossible. If you just explore the game world you'll unlock them all no problem.

I just completed Kiryu's chapter in Yakuza 5. Took about 15 hours to do everything, except two substories. I'm not sure where to find them. Oh well.

Anyway, I'm absolutely loving this game. It's my favorite Yakuza game so far, but I still have 4 characters to go, so we'll see if it can keep this up.

If Majima is really dead, I'm gonna lose my shit.

Roaming Kamurocho and fighting thugs felt much more harsh in Y1 where I could audibly hear them call Kazuma "stupid old fuck" :(

So I played 0 and loved it. Played Kiwami.

My current plan is to wait for Kiwami 2 to come here, but after that I hit a snag.

Should I wait for Yakuza Kiwami 3, or should I just pick up Yakuza 3?

I hear there were some issues with the localized version of Yakuza 3, is that true?

4 and 5 I have through PS+ and I was thinking of playing them that way.

Sorry if this comes up all the time.
