Anyone else here start over from scratch? I wanted to play from the beginning again, but master mode doesn't interest me and I have no desire to make burner accounts. So I started from scratch Saturday night after my initial 120 hour playthrough. No regrets at all. What a fucking game this is.

I did the same not long ago. Actually started a Master mode playthrough, hated it, abandoned when I reached Elimith and reading that the Master Sword trials were anything but fun in that mode, and decided to start a new normal playthrough. I'm much happier now, and I am enjoying the game thoroughly. I plan to start with the Gerudo desert instead of the Zora domain, but... I... got distracted (damn that game is a little too good at making me run everywhere but where I initially planned to go).

Regarding the Master Mode, I'm wondering if I should have persevered or not. I just don't find it fun to play at all. When every encounter becomes an ordeal in which even the weapons you can find nearby won't be enough to kill everyone and when your only real solutions are to make them fall from heights or run away, it is simply not interesting. Also, that regenerating health is just overkill. I could go for weapons in specific places, but frankly I don't enjoy that way of playing (and they would break quite quickly).
Normal mode is definitely too easy once you get to a certain point and/or just know how the game works. Master mode is, in my eyes, unbalanced and transform the experience into a chore.

I would have loved to just add the new rank of enemies and flying platforms to my "normal" playthroughs.

I keep thinking about starting a new game and restrict myself to no fast travel.

I've been thinking about doing this for a while. I might wait until there's a bit more distance between my initial playthrough.

Well... since the topic has swung to starting the game anew, how 'bout I mention the new hardcover Official Expanded Guide that dropped today?

Despite never really ever getting around to contributing to the artbook OT, I'm a big sucker for them and/or guidebooks if the games have some great designs in them, and BOTW was one of the best looking Zeldas in years.

I have the deluxe edition of the launch guide, so I'll pass. That guide was partially obsolete pretty quickly though, haha. Iirc some things were patched out.

Damn, nice timing!

I just discovered that some Koroks are hidden behind "Apple Trees" puzzles... Like, I never realized that until now, after a whole playthrough, an aborted Master Mode playthrough and until reaching Elimith in a brand new normal playthrough.

I started another play through again recently, only about 15 hrs. in on this one...I'm intentionally taking my time and being a lot more deliberate this time around.

It's cool because I've forgot enough to where it feels fresh again but nothing feels 100% foreign.

It's crazy, I've already found stuff in this 2nd go around that I didn't come across in my initial save...this game is insane.

After 105+ hours, I finally finished it today (and I'm not even considering that I had already played at least 40 hours on the Wii U version before buying my Switch).

The game is an absolute masterpiece. It has its flaws, as any other game has, but overall it's a brilliant game and easily one of the best that I've ever played. And it raised the bar to what an open world game can, and should, be. I can't wait to see how other games incorporate BotW ideas. And more than that, Zelda as a series is forever changed because of BotW. They can't go back, but they can transform and evolve what they did in this game. I'm really hoping for a Majora's Mask situation where the engine, and even assets, are the same, but the whole game design is an evolution of the solid foundation that the previous game was. Next year would be perfect for this new Zelda game.

The only regret that I have is that I played it in Master Mode. In the beginning is actually fun having to really think before fighting enemies, but after 50 hours it became more of an annoyance than anything else. The HP pool of the enemies is way too big and the fact they restore HP if you don't do damage is a pain in the ass, especially when fighting high-level enemies. It didn't make the game that much harder, but it made the combat worse. So I wouldn't recommend playing in Master Mode unless you REALLY understand that battles will last much more and in that process, you probably will break a lot of weapons and become annoyed with the fact that enemies just won't die.

The enemy line of sight seems really inconsistent. How the hell did a blue Bokoblin just see me from like 100 feet when I'm also way above it??

And I just reloaded my game and now they didn't see me doing the exact same thing.

Flew here the second time without getting spotted....

Yes. And I can't stop playing it. And I won't. And I dunno how many hours it's gonna end up being for me. Currently at 430ish hours and I'm just loving it more and more.

Forgetting about what it isn't, and treasuring what it is.

ps. But GOD do I need Temples, caves, and even more dark and surreal things in this game.

I returned to the game over Christmas to play the Champions Ballad, yet six weeks later I haven't even started it. Instead I've been wandering Hyrule checking out anywhere that Hero's Path shows I haven't been, mostly to find Koroks.

I think I've found nearly 100 in that time (approaching 550 now). It is amazing how many puzzles were tucked away SO close to somewhere I traveled plenty of times; the other side of a hill, beneath a cliff, behind some trees.

I really hope we get BotW 2 during Switch's lifespan.

Is there a single conversation in this game where "ONE HUNDRED YEARS" isn't mentioned? It feels like everyone needs to constantly remind you how long you've been asleep.

I've put a lot of time into this game this past week and I'm really loving it. Just got the Master Sword! With this and Stasis, Guardians are a piece of cake now. I can't imagine any combat encounter giving me trouble anymore, especially if I equip the Phantom Armor as well.

This game really excels when you don't use fast travel. It allows you to start recognizing landmarks and go on these little mini adventures throughout the world. I have to say, Nintendo really hit this out of the park. This is the best open world game I've played in years.

I beat Ganon last night.

Well first I decided to take a little walk from the southwest-most point in the Gerudo desert to the northeast-most point in the ocean above the maze.

Took me 41 minutes and 30 seconds. Went as straight as I could. In some places the terrain forced me to veer a little out of the way, especially at the end. At one point I got to that place with all the giant hollow tree stumps and it started raining while I was inside one so I had to go back out and around it because I couldn't climb it while a stupid Wizzrobe was constantly zapping me with lightning. Then at the end when I got to the maze and I couldn't climb up it because once again it was raining so I had to walk to the front entrance and launch myself into the air to go inside (At which point it stopped raining) and then climb up the wall to keep going to my goal. It took me 14 minutes alone just to get out of the desert.

Next time I'll try the other angle. From the northwest to the southeast. I don't think I'd try going the opposite directions as they'd be much harder. Especially trying to go from Eventide to the mainland slowly on ice blocks. Or from the maze to the mainland.

Then after that I attempted Trial of the Sword again and failed on floor 3 so I gave up.

Then I finally went to Ganon and finished the game. I don't see why people didn't like the Ganon fight. It was kind of okay. Sure, not Twilight Princess okay but okay. 63.81% complete. I'm pretty sure that remaining percentage is the 400+ Korok seeds I still have to find.

Gotta say I don't like this. The collision stuff being messed up that is. It's kinda funny, but a bit annoying. I wonder how long I coulda kept stealth killing the air for.

Honestly this may be even worse.

Outside of Kakariko Village (near the Great Fairy Fountain), there's an ancient plate on the ground (similar to those found in shrines). Next to Impa, there's a ball that fits onto this plate, but she won't let you touch it. Is there some hidden quest involving these two items?

I don't know how much you want to know, but yes. To start it, you have to be at the right place at the right time though.

Honestly, I looked it up during my playthrough. It was one of the last shrines I had left.

Restarted this again after beating it in Nov. There are so many side quests I completely missed.

I'm going for a 100 percent run this time.

Really getting an itch to play this again. But I have so many other games to play that I haven't finished. :( I have such fond memories of my first playthrough so I don't want to ruin those. But man I loved just exploring the world.

Would there be interest for a thread where we collect every single piece of information we get on the new Zelda game?

I've been playing this game for a second time, but this time in Master Mode with all the DLC. I beat it back at release and specifically didn't touch the DLC until this playthrough.

And holy shit, is the Trial of the Sword even fucking beatable in this mode? I can't believe they didn't negate the regenerating health and the base enemy rank + 1 thing. I shouldn't be scrapping with being mauled by two silver Lizalfos in the fucking beginning section. They have 720 HP for fuck's sake, and it partially regenerates. I don't even think I had enough weapon damage to kill them, and I'd been stockpiling everything.

Really disappointing that I don't think I'll be bothering with what a ridiculous exercise in frustration that trial is until I start yet another playthrough (in normal mode), and I don't know how long that will be, because it's a really long game. I'm just so disappointed in that, man. I wanted to beat everything in this save file, but that isn't fun at all.

Unfortunately, from what I've heard, Trial of the Sword is almost unplayable in Master Mode.

So I'm part way through the Champions Ballad and I think it's great. Just completed one of the songs (Urbosa's) and I've enjoyed everything I've done so far. The One-Hit-Obliterator was cool and all the shrines and challenges were fun and challenging too. It's weird that a lot of it isn't 'new' content (sneaking in the Yiga hideout, killing a super Molduga and sand seal surfing) but it's all fun enough to do a second time with a little twist (like starting from what was the end of the Yiga hideout).

Well worth the money so far. Also got the Switch shirt which is funny.

I also really like Hero's Path. Very fascinating to see my 35 hours in super fast-forward like that...

Finally got around to finishing this today. As a huge fan since playing LttP, this game ticket all the right boxes for me. How they managed to keep it feeling so much Zelda while at the same time reinventing so much of it is pretty astounding.

It felt so right to finish the game in this outfit.

Wish I could have done the same but I hate how you basically have to do everything before you can get it. I'm on Game 2 at 435+ hrs and still have yet to get that outfit.

I happily finished the game with the outfit we all first saw Link wearing when this game was first revealed and known as Zelda U.

Champion shirt, black hood, and his classic pants. Oh and later I switched mid battle to the Guardian Diamond Circlet. Looked great on him.
