Never played the series before but now that I have a PS4 I was looking to catch up on exclusives. Giant Bombs love for 0 has me interested in diving into the series too. On the PS store I see that there's a bundle with 6 and 0 for $72 with the Plus discount (the Pro also came with a 20% off coupon so I can get it for $57). Do you get 0 immediately when you buy this?

I assume so. When I pre ordered South Park A Fractured But Whole a couple of years back, I instantly got the Stick of Truth as a game to play on my PS4.

Hi there Yakuza community !
I'm watching Yakuza Apocalypse at the moment on Netflix (holy crap is it bad, I'm laughing so much right now !) which reminded me that I saw Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 5 being available on PS Now! in France. If I'm right, I should have some sort of 14 days trial, which should be enough to finish one of those games. Which one would you recommend? I'm guessing 5, so that I'm "up to date" for the release of Yakuza 6?

I've currently only played 0 and Kiwami.

Thanks !

EDIT: also, does anyone know where I can get the Song of Life Premium Edition in France without having to go to Micromania? :)

You really get half the experience of Y5 IMO if you haven't played Y4. Y4 is almost like a soft reboot in some ways in that it adds 3 new characters and completely new storylines. While Y5 doesn't rely too heavily on Y4's plot, it does depend on you being familiar with the characters. And Y4 is a great game in it's own right.

Y6 continues directly from the end of Y5 as well.

But be warned that both games are massive, Y5 in particular taking easily 40+ hours JUST FOR THE MAIN STORY.

Well I still got 2 weeks before I start my new job... guess I gotta rush a bit then :) I'll start with 4 then.

EDIT: well nvmd, the Yakuza games seem to only be available in NA for PS Now...

Easily the best part of the movie, haha. I expected a bit more, but this part didn't disappoint at all.

I laughed so hard during that entire sequence !

While we are on the topic of Yakuza movies, what would YakuzaEra recommend? I've already seen both Crows Zero movies. Looking for something similar to the games if possible, serious story with lots of cool moments and some japanese quirkyness. Thanks !

So thus far dead souls isn't too bad. It's a game that's kind of hard to play in long form bursts due to how repetitive it is, but it's not a terrible game. One thing that sort of shocked me is at the production values for the substories is kind of crazy for a Yakuza game. A lot of them are fully voiced and quite good actually.

One thing I failed to mention before tho is I have no idea what they were thinking with that over the top negative acceleration curve in free aim. It's really, really terrible and quite exasperating due to the cardinal sin of having no sensitivity options included in the game. I got to the last challenge in the free aim shooting mode and just gave up because of how infuriating it is. It's made worse by the reticle doesn't actually follow where you're going to shoot 1:1 so you kind of have to wait a second for the character's arms to stop or the bullet trajectory will be off. Combined with an overly generous magnetism algorithm it makes it nearly impossible to place precision shots a lot of the time. In game this doesn't really matter that much due to the head tracking ability, but in the shooting range it just becomes an exercise in frustration.

Overall I'd probably say that unless you are a huge Yakuza fan I'd suggest skipping this and playing Binary Domain instead. While playing it it's nearly impossible not to think of it due to the similarities and I'm usually thinking I'd rather be playing BD lol >.<

From the top of my head, because those are the two movies I've recently watched:

Riki Takeuchi (Awano in Yakuza 0) is in "Tokyo Tribe", which is based on a manga and basically a hip hop opera (or rap opera rather), mixed with some yakuza elements (but it's mostly rivalled gangs fighting against each other). It's quirky, it's weird, it's brutal, it's sexual, it's a visual overload. I found it interesting, but your mileage may vary. Wouldn't really call it a Yakuza movie, though.

Takeshi Kitano's Outrage is pretty good, although I've only watched the first one so far (I think there are 2 more in this series). It's not really quirky though.

While you guys are on the subject of Yakuza movies I want to say again do not buy the Takeshi Mike Like a Dragon movie on Amazon instant. There are no English subs so unless you speak Japanese you're screwed lol >.<

Hey guys, I have never played a Yakuza game before and want to dive into this universe. I'm getting Yakuza Kiwami cheap but I keep reading that newcomers should play Yakuza 0. Is that so?? Should I wait to get Y0 cheap or get Kiwami and start playing??? Kindly advise.

Play 0 first. Kiwami is basically an expansion pack/sequel to the one of the two main characters from 0's arc in 0. Rather than being a straight up remake it builds directly off of 0 with new and remixed content. It's also expected that you've played zero before as K is a much harder game based on that expectation, with normal in K being harder than hard mode in 0.

The demo thread (and OT and everything about 6 in general) should have a huge spoiler warning for the people who still want to go through the series, since it pretty much spoils the entire ending of 5 (from what I know, haven't played it yet).

Exactly. Anyone playing 5, or planning to play 5 before 6 should absolutely not touch the demo at all for fear of massive spoilers!

The Yakuza 6 demo will be the same as the Japanese one?
I assume so. The demo is very large, and it carries over data to the full game just like the Japanese version did. Since the demo is basically the first half of chapter 1 of 6, I assume its the same demo.

Awesome news on the Edge review as well. I'll have to read that when I get a chance, they've always been stingy on review scores so an 8 from them is nothing to sniff at. I actually do wonder how reviews for 6 will fair, bearing in mind the divided reception the game got in Japan from fans (me personally, I loved the game, bar one bit at the end).

Also, with FOTNS out very soon in Japan, Sega Japan have released two trailers showing off mini games:

Eden

Wasteland

It doesn't show all the mini games, stuff like the arena and the market are not shown, and the cabaret club management/bouncer stuff hasn't really been detailed all that much either (it certainly looks like 0's - I assumed originally you just acted as a bouncer. But this time you can get rid of aggressive customers with Hokuto Shinken (aka make jerks heads explode). I'd laugh so hard if they had FOTNS Obatarian pop up in this.

The whole Wasteland exploration has me intrigued as well - mainly because I love the thought of exploring it more and more and discovering collectables for Eden - I know its how you find the videogames for your collection, I wonder what else you get. Seems like there is some sort of Metroidvania progress in it - with different parts giving your jeep different power ups (ploughing through roadblocks for example).

Most likely, Chinese version was the same with as the Japanese too.

Thank you for responding.I've already played the Japanese demo, so i guess that i'll wait for the full game.

Yakuza 4 7/10 (4/2011)

Yakuza 2 8/10 (11/2008)

I suddenly have less respect for Edge, only giving Y0 an 8/10 and giving it the same score as Kiwami.

Edge are hard to please. Its a minor miracle they gave many of those games got 8/10's. I was more saddened by 4, that totally deserved at least an 8. But yeah, realistically 0 should have been a 9, and really I'd probably bump 3 up to at least a 7 (I'd rate it higher still for the Japanese version, in retrospect I love that game so darn much!)

I keep debating with myself if I should buy the English release of Yakuza 6. Basically all my favorite scenes in the story uses Yamashita Tatsuro songs and that intro replacement does nothing for me. Maybe I'll just replay the Japanese version...

Hi Yakuza Community! My first post here :) Yakuza 0 was my entry point into the series, and I fucking loved it, it was one of my GOTYs last year. I now have started Yakuza Kiwami in anticipation of Yakuza 6 release, and I have a question regarding difficulty: is it normal that Normal mode in Kiwami MUCH harder than in Yakuza 0? Like, I just finished the

Sera's funeral escape

And I basically went through all my Toughness Z, and the boss fight took me aaaaaages to finish

Heyo. Yea, Kiwami is far harder than Y0. The boss fight of the chapter you beat is specifically notorious, so you can feel good that you're over that hump.

Yeah I felt that it was much harder too. I basically abused rush style for boss battles.

Any challenge in Yakuza Kiwami immediately disappears when you unlock Tiger Drop. It's overpowered as always and so easy to pull off in that game.

Yeah I'm never listening to the japanese song again until I beat Y6.

The western opening of 0 was amazing though, I like it more than Bubble.

Completely opposite for me, i literally just finished listening to Bubble again and that song is fucking amazing. It's probably my favorite Yakuza intro music.

I hit a real wall in Yakuza 4 with Tanimura's story. idk what it is but after like ten minutes of playing I just always find myself looking for a save point so i can quit

A lot of it could be because I super do not like his combat style

That fight is bizarrely balanced in terms of boss health. No idea why he gets so much. But I don't personally feel that Kiwami increased difficulty that much from 0 (going on Hard mode here, not normal mode though). There are a couple of exceptions where Kiwami hiked the difficulty for me on hard mode, but for the most part I've felt that all the Yakuza series is pretty easy from 4 and up (its one of my biggest pet peeves with the series).
Best thing to do in Kiwami is to make sure you have all the Kiwami moves unlocked already (these break the bosses out of their healing state) and also do the side content/fight Majima loads to get lots of XP. Once you have access to the more advanced moves/counters/heat moves the combat will become much easier for you :)
