I was completely new to the franchise and I'm having an absolute blast.

If you have experience with Dark Souls that'll help. Moreso in terms of you have to play by the game's rules and understand its systems - it shows you're adaptable, the combat itself is different from Souls behind the surface.

You can do the game entirely solo, or if you're struggling with a particular Monster you can call for help. Perfect for you.

Cool, glad to hear that. MP communities around games like this are usually chill which is nice. It's other franchises that often have me turn off to MP.

If I want to use the HR49 Kirin quest to generate some investigations... can I just keep running around for 50 minutes and fail the quest but keep the investigations I find?

Ugh, I really just want transmog. I just can't enjoy game as much when my character continues to look terrible for the sake of skills...

Beat the first tempered quest Beyond the Blasting Scales on my first try. Feels good and wasn't as bad as i imagined it would be. Just avoided Bazelgeuse in his red phase, let both duke it out when they meet and took pot shots when the opportunity presented itself. Switch Axe surely wasn't the ideal weapon for this and it took me about 45 minutes.

Can I tranq Bazelgeuse? I trapped both when they were near death, but the tranq bombs didn't work at all. I killed the first one and the second one was automatically captured due to low health when I trapped him a second time.

Also this was the first quest I used the power-up and armor item from the vendor that you just carry in your inventory... I read somewhere there was a way to upgrade them? EDIT: Upgrade via crafting at the item box vith Bazelgeuse Talons.

Have they said anything about transmog/fashion? I'm dying here. I keep my dual blade set dressed on Odogaron but I wanna try a few other builds.... but tgeyeet hideous and not worth it lol.

They've got the layered armour stuff in place and the only thing in there is the Samurai set. Ryu's Gi should be in there also.

So, what am I missing about 49 Tempered Kirin?

On low rank it seemed trivially easy. Using a bow as my main.

On high rank, he has his same attacks that go in a line, no problem. He has his attack that creates several lines, and its faster, but I can still clearly see the difference in color, and know where to stand so it doesn't hit me.

Tempered Kirin, I see the lightning build up across the entire ground, I see no difference in color, and it hits me every time. What am I missing here?

Maybe you're just on a surface where the color difference is hard to see. He still has areas that light up to show where the lightning will strike.

I've just gone with what I like the look off, haven't bothered with any skills so far, would love a transmog system though like others have said.
Just beat the Tempered Kirin quest, fight was awesome, took an age to kill but that's because pretty much most hits were either a one shot or take like 3/4 of my health so had to be careful. Also took a lot of patience as half the time my Great Sword would just bounce meaning I couldn't attack, especially towards the end where it seemed like the damn beast spent more time in that mode than not and was spamming the electric bolts. Fight was exhilarating though.

I finally got around to beating the campaign and was wondering what I should be doing next for this "high rank" stuff, currently my only quest objective is to find the tracks of a ??? Rathian, and well he's kinda kicking my face in then peacing out of the area after I make any head way, so should I be farming zorah magdaros for that armour set or just get the weapon which I have enough for and try to get a full set of something else if there is even anything better after that set?.

Just let the Bazelgeuse fuck each other up when they're in the same area. They do a ridiculous amount of damage to each other.

I wonder at times whether they really are fighting each other or... making out >_>

EDIT

I was suppose to mount Legiana but this got in the way

Is literally no one fighting HR Rathalos? Seems strange.

I managed to find him and kill him in an expedition and have some investigations I can do solo or SOS, but sometimes it's quicker just to 'Join a quest -> Respond to SOS' and I haven't been able to find a single person doing HR Rathalos that way.

Edit: Checked and my Rathalos investigations are 7* (which I've unlocked and can do) but HR13... so it seems the soft cap for HR Rathalos is 13. You can find him in expedition and kill him but to do his optional/investigations you have to be HR13, and that's why when I search for it nothing returns.

Welp, seems like I gotta beat Nergigante first. Wish me luck.

Yeah, it's so strange, same thing happens to me with other monsters. And then there are supposedly only 5 Tempered investigations being SOS'd during Euro prime time? Hard to believe.
The MP leaves a lot to be desired and just seems outright broken at times.

> Find Nergigante tracks in (spoiler)

*finds nergigante tracks*

'great work!'

> Head back to Astera

*heads back to Astera*

'Hey! We need to study more nergigante tracks!'

> Search for traces of Nergigante

----------------

C'mon game, y'all really giving me an identical quest twice? Not only that but a 'find the tracks' quest twice?!

I fought it with a bow too. Where are you fighting it? I carted once because I wasn't expecting his lightning to hit so hard but I played cautiously the second time. With the bow dodge you'll be going left or right. When you see that there is no where to go, sheathe your weapon and do a Superman dive.

I seriously don't understand what part of "not flashing Daora inside the tornado" is that hard to understand, but there must be some part that is really hard, because god lord everyone does it lol

Just a note, but when Kirin's enraged like that, you CAN attack it, but ONLY if you hit the head dead-on. You'll bounce off of everywhere else.

Great Sword is actually amazing at this because it's so easy to just do safe draw attacks on the head.

Early game (just beat Barroth) charge blade hunter here. Is there anyway to increase the length of time that my blade stays sharpened? 2H mode drains sharpness so annoyingly fast.

Armor with the Handicraft skill will increase sharpness. But in general, as you progress through the game weapons further along the upgrade tree will have more sharpness.

You'll find tracks for the ??? Rathian randomly while you're doing high rank quests/expeditions. I believe your scoutflies change their color to blue when you are nearby those tracks. Personally I would prioritize getting your weapon upgraded first as the additional damage will help you just as much as stronger armor would.
Don't bother forging any low rank gear. If the Zorah Magdaros set speaks to you in terms of skills you can go farm that, however you could also farm any other high rank monster and find ??? tracks at the same time. If you're having trouble with the hr monster, start fighting the easy ones first like Pukei Pukei or Barroth.

Also you are not done with the story, there is still plenty left.

How is the Nergigante hammer? Worth spending one Nergigante Gem on it if i already own the Nergian Lacerator?
The nerg hammer and the diablos shatterer are the best hammers in the game. The nerg hammer is low maintenance (hardly ever need to sharpen) and high elderseal. The shatterer needs nonelemental boost and you need to think about handicraft.

I think on balance Daora is my least favorite fight in the game. I still feel like Kirin is pretty rubbish, too, but at least there's some feeling of interactivity to his mechanical gimmick. Kushala Daora's just... ugh. Either you've set yourself up to completely ignore all of his mechanical complexity and sail through the fight unabated, or you just spend 90% of the time with him in a functionally non-interactive state. He's so close to being a good design, too, it's just all these "off by a bit" problems; his rages last too long and he re-rages too easily, the duration of his tornadoes is (much) too long, his hitboxes/hurtboxes are just a little too scummy, etc.

Finally beat the story.
Now to farm some Elder Dragons and the final boss to get the boss I want... then onto HR increasing I guess.

Crit boost only increase crit damage from 25% to 30/35/40%.

So instead of 2.5% damage increase per 10% Affinity its 3/3.5/4%, so the increase is about 0.5/1/1.5%. For comparison, one Attack skill, gives around 1.5% damage increase for most endgame weapons.
This isn't how you do the math comparisons for crit boost. I am aware of how critboost works, it's exactly as it did in Gen/XX. It's not an increase of .5/1/1.5%, it's an increase of 4/8/12% assuming 100% affinity.
1.3/1.25 = 1.04 (4%)
1.35/1.25 = 1.08 (8%)
1.4/1.25 = 1.12 (12%)

You don't have to choose between affinity and crit boost. These things are required to go together. Building a set that reaches 85%+ affinity, you should always consider crit boost because it will likely be the biggest damage increase per point that you can get. The only thing that rivals this level of damage is increasing from blue to white sharpness, and even then that's only a 10% increase while you remain in white.

This bow wall jump abuse against Nergi is insane. I went in with absolutely no training and an incomplete set and still managed to down him within 4min.

Also made a spread HBG set. Quite fun playing as a walking tank with rocksteady mantle :D

Next up is probably Blos Charge Blade. It seems to be the quickest and most versatile way to down these multi hunt crown quests. I'm set on getting all gold crowns this week. Wildspire Waste is a much better area than the forest, as such the quest is actually fun and not a chore.

Starting to get used to the insect glaive atm, but I'm wondering how the mount mechanic actually works. Is it based on a probability stat or is there some way to always make it connect? I don't know what I'm doing right when it actually works.

To all gunlance users, what skills do you guy use? What is your go to/favorite weapon? Do you preffer offensive play style or are you more of a defensive player? Do you preffer power over utility or the other way around?
