Well, the Japanese version is less common than the Taiwan model, though they are in all other respects pretty much identical... they don't appear to have any real "added value" to a collector, possibly because you could still buy brand new, never opened Taiwan Lynx 101s from a guy in the US who bought out a warehouse of Atari stuff back in the 90s as recently as five years ago (might still be able to for all I know)...
Just for fun, here's some unboxing pics of a new one I bought five years back:
Oh man that is beautiful. There was a seller a year back that was selling off NOS Lynx II units for not a crazy price. I regret not jumping on one of those. =(
Best video game/retro shops downtown?
Just my take
A&C: Huge collection but do realize you're looking at near or slightly above ebay prices. Sometimes you get lucky but not always. The general pro of the place is the staff is great and all their stuff is cleaned heavily before it's put out for sale. And again, huge selection.
Game Centre (2 locations): Best place for a bargain but do be careful as sometimes you might end up with a bootleg game. The retro selection is a bit small but the prices are fantastic. Yet do be warned, their stuff tends to cycle through pretty fast. What might be there 1 day might be gone a week later, or I probably bought it, lol (Uggg I should have just bought that damn boxed 3do even though I didn't need it). They also sadly don't clean their stuff well or at all. =/ Still over all this is my favorite shop.
Last Gen: Tiny little place but the owner is an older guy who is fun to chat with about retro stuff. I also get some fantastic deals here but he doesn't always get a lot of new stuff as quickly.
GameSwap: This place can be hit or miss sometimes. Too much stuff they have is off limits or at price of A&C. You might still find a deal here or there. I generally stop going here because I always end up walking out with nothing. It's at least worth a visit to check out.
