Decided to finally try this game out after playing PUBG for a long time and I have to say....

This game is fun as hell!

The building mechanic initially turned me off but after coming to grips with it I find it adds so much to the experience. Had an absolute blast just playing solo and will dive back in tonight.

One quick question though: I'm sure I see people landing much quicker than I do with their gliders out. Is that just my imagination or is there a legitimate way to glide down faster?

There isn't a way to speed up the glide descent. Jump earlier, skydive straight down as fast as you can and then glide the distance to where you want to land, that's how you hit the floor earlier.

I'm all for intelligent discussion about game balance etc. There's none of that. Just constant moaning about how he's been killed by "bullshit" and how "overpowered" shotguns and ARs are. You don't need to come on here every time you lose to vent your salt.

I mean, I guess it's easy to write it off as salt if that's what you want to do. Point is that, in my opinion, shotguns and rifles are in a problem state right now. They're the strongest weapons in the game and also the easiest to use. How much do you think those weapons together outkill the rest of the roster of weapons combined? 20 to 1? 30 to 1? More? Let's put it this way, why would I bother picking up more skill intensive weapons when I can just demolish people with the easiest ones?

Maybe the bluntness of my posts makes them easy to write off but everything I posted I firmly believe. I said the weapon balance is terrible, and I believe it is. I said vaulting both shotguns would be extremely beneficial to the game, and I thoroughly believe that. I called rifles overpowered and I believe they are, whether they're in my hands or someone else's. I guess you could consider my "point blanked 3 times" post salt but it's not like this is an uncommon problem and it's something that is complained about fairly regularly with the shotguns, especially the tactical.

I mean, at the start of one of the games I played earlier I pulled a purple scar out of a chest and proceeded to drop a guy in two bullets doing 70 damage each. Know what I said when that happened? "Wow, that's bullshit." I walked away from the encounter feeling like the other guy got hosed as opposed to me doing anything noteworthy and it's a pretty big reason why I'm essentially spinning my tires waiting for that shooting test.

Thanks very much. It's amazing how differently I have been playing this compared to pubg.

Usually in that I have been avoiding busy areas at round start and getting pretty stressed out when playing solo. In Fortnite I have just been diving straight into the action and had a great time every time.

I think the aesthetic is helping a lot with my stress levels when alone.

I got second like 8 games in a row last night. Completely fumbled it every time too. I allowed everyone to take the high ground because I was being a coward and just hiding in a corner. It's really weird. I'll play super aggressively all game long and get like 6-8 kills and then just panic when I get to the top and become a total pushover. The 8 (low number, I know) solo games I've actually won all happened because I was just fighting the entire time and wasn't really conscious of what position I was in. In fact, one of my proudest wins is when I killed 5 guys at Greasy in the Outdoors Store in the first few minutes and then 5 guys at the end in Tomato Town.

On the topic of shotguns:

I think the tactical is pretty balanced. I just think the pump should be a blue/purple drop only with the same drop rate as the blue burst. The fact that they are gray and everywhere is what makes them so annoying.

Personally, I don't have a problem with the shotguns either.

90% of my deaths to a shotgun are because I've screwed up somewhere like not paying attention or the other player genuinely outplayed me.

If someone is pushing me aggressively I just start building, if they manage to build over me or find another way to get close enough, then it's something I've done wrong IMO.

Not sure I'm a fan of the turbo building and automatic material switch, it's definitely helped me out but it lowers the skillgap. Kind of a handholding function as Cloakzy mentioned.
What? What he shows could be done by anyone and frequently was. You just spam the button. Does no one give a thought to consoles? Because I take back what I said about console specific controls, this gives us something more usable. Try changing materials half way through a battle only to find the next empty slot. It was always broken and never should have got to season 3 in that state.

For me and for many others, it's making a fundamentally broken mechanic easier to use. And if you're on PC and you can't spam up all those wall, then just uninstall, because they have far greater control over building, and should think themselves lucky.

In an actual build fight, I haven't noticed turbo building helping me at all. You still need to know what to actually do to be effective. Just randomly throwing up ramps isn't going to save you in an actual fight. In any case, I'm pretty sure hammering your left mouse click before was just as effective as holding it down is now.

Just my opinion. I haven't really heard of any other pro players complaining about these changes yet.

I also think the pump shotgun needs to change rarity. It's silly that most players will go into the top 5-10 with a white pump over a purple tac. Something's off about that.

I think I got to Tier 7 or so last night for 2 hours of playing. I love this game, really addicted to it.

Catching up with the thread, reading how everyone is already winning games this season. (._.)

I always play solo but I'm thinking I'm gonna jump in with some randoms for duos today.

Blue/Purple Pumps is the way to go. Same damage as the white/green variants currently.

Also, what would everyone say their personal rarest item/weapon to find in the game is? For me, it's the blue burst rifle. I routinely get Chug Jugs, Gold Scars, Gold John Wicks, and the like, but finding a blue burst is something that happens like once in 50 games or so.

Orange Bolt for me, think I've had like 3 total. Blue Revolver probably the second (though I avoid Revolvers like the plague).

The purple RPG. I get blues from chests. I get the gold from supply drops. But I never, ever see the purple one.

The blue burst is an odd one. For some reason, I do feel like I find a gold scar far more often. Not that I mind. I'm not a fan of the burst. But it's certainly rare for me.

Damn it. I was in top 3 and decided to rush someone's tower and I got the no build bug. Every single piece wouldn't build, going in and out of build didn't work, nothing worked and I died. Never got this bug when people were talking about it in the last few patches. Could've won that match easily. That's extremely frustrating.

tbh I don't really like the pump now.

It needed the nerf and double pump especially needed to die... and I do think the risk vs reward with it is now fairly appropriate even though it remains the best shotgun in the game...

But damn the pump feels clunky as hell now. No idea why you have to pump it every time you switch to it and not just after you've fired. I don't get why I can pump it, switch to AR, then switch back to the pump and have to pump it again even though I never shot it.... Doesn't really make sense tbh.

I've said before I think the rarity of the Pump's should probably change and so what I'd really like to see is make it so you have to only pump them once between each fire and not every single time you switch to it (even if you didn't fire)... and then increase the rarity of each pump by 1 or 2.

Are you sure the pump animation is truly complete?

I have the same issue with sniper rifles where the animation is seemingly complete and the reload is finished so I switch away, then I come back and it hasn't actually reloaded. turns out you need to leave it a second after the animation is visibly complete

Has anyone got the "invisible weapon" bug yet? It only seems to happen in the first few minutes of a match, but when switching from building to a weapon, my character will be holding an invisible weapon that I cannot aim or fire, and I have to frantically switch between axe, building, and weapon before the weapon finally appears.

hmmm... Yea good point. I know exactly what you mean about the Bolt as I do the same thing all the time.

Next time I'll play I'll be sure to test that.

If that turns out to be the case I'll then shift my attention to "Epic. fix this reload issue finishing a second late because it makes your game feel clunkier" :P

The new grass is gorgeous. The nice thing about jumping to the edges of the map to find the animals is that I could enjoy the scenery while running to the circle :)

Also, requiring people to jump to different named locations is really making the map feel more active gain. I'm finding that the pace of the action is more evenly spread again. There's like 7 people jumping to Fatal Fields every game now.

Our last match of the night, we were the only 4 people in Tilted at the beginning. Never seen that before.

I won. Finally. My first for the season and second of all time. Solo. 'Twas glorious.

Supply drop saved my ass really. Dude was nestled in a fort and a supply dropped right by me, behind cover. Was a legendary grenade launcher, so I equipped that and fired away. He somehow sneaked out of the fort during the barrage and got the drop on me, but I pulled out my assault rifle and ended it.

I love this game.

And I finally got a duo win earlier and it still hasn't counted in my stats even though they've updated many times... This game has not been good to me today :(

... Dammit just had another top 3 where I couldn't build until I did a dance, then it worked but I was already screwed by then.

Sounds like your issue is with time to kill in general rather than the weapon balance. I mean, you lucked out by getting one of the best weapons in the game out of a chest. You managed to headshot someone 2 times ( and even then if they had full or even half shield it wouldn't have been enough to kill). I really don't have any issue with that.

I guess the only point we would agree on is that bloom is not ideal and needs to be replaced with a better system, but I don't think the recoil shooting test is going to fix it for you. There will still be "random" headshots caused by someone going full auto and getting lucky with the weapon kick. Positioning and building is always going to trump shooting in this game, that is where the real skill gap lies.

I've actually been running the Tac SMG instead of any of the shotguns recently, I quite like it after the buffs, end-game I usually build a bunch so it's tough for people to get the jump on me.

For example, one of my wins from yesterday, the combination of building up and pressure with the RPG meant they couldn't get anywhere near shotgun range even if they wanted to:

Love turbo mode. I can create a protective barrier with a sweep of my mouse as soon as I get shot.

The game runs so well on console now. Really great to see them prioritize smoothness over bells and whistles. But I still run into desync/lag issues, even late in games. Really obnoxious.

The sound of the Deagle makes me jump every time....

I wouldn't mind changing the pump rarity. Personally I've been going SMG over tac shotty lately because the tac is pretty inconsistent unless it's a purple. Pump + SMG for clean-up works well too.

Wonder if it's just from today, because I got credit for all of my wins last night. Might have been something introduced by the server side update they pushed today.

Looks like you need to carry Doc through some duos

I guess they did this because they didn't want double pump to be viable in any way whatsoever. So you just can't switch to the pump quickly from any gun. You gotta have it out when you're ready to fire and if you plan to switch to a gun at all during that fight, you may as well not bother pumping after you shoot because you'll have to do it again when you switch back.

It can still drop someone in close range in a single shot. So... yeah. I guess I don't really mind it. I wish it would deter people from using it entirely but it won't and really good players will still go around 1-pumping people.

I want them to do a mechanics test where you can't switch during the shot cooldown of any gun, rather than forcing the cooldown on just the pump when you switch back. Would add more risk to the pump/deagle (and unfortunately the revolver, but meh), but not have much of an effect on other guns.

You can totally still do the double pump swap, you just have to hold the pump out long enough then swap off. I tend to swap off early and miss the finish (happens to me a lot with the sniper rifle reload as well).

So I have a 360 controller hooked up to my PC

and since the patch, it tries to revert to using a 360 controller? I haven't had this issue and it's annoying because it'd mean I have to unplug my 360 controller every time I wanna play fortnite .-.

also the shotgun is way too strong. Getting 1 shot from full health from over 10 feet away isn't fun.
