I've been on a KingsFallAM podcast binge for the last few weeks and it's amazing. About two radio hosts in a town plagued with supernatural happenings.

The cast of characters on the show are amazing. It sounds like a night Vale rip off, but imo it's a thousand times more entertaining, especially now that they got this huge unwinding storyline going on. HUGE revelation happened in the last episode, they usually release two episodes a month on the 1st and 15th

It's the twin peaks of podcasts (my hyperbole kicking in)

I might even make a thread about it, that's how enjoyable it is.

Episodes start off short, like 12-13 minutes but they ballooned out to 35 minutes on average. It's very inclusive diversity wise. Couple jabs are thrown at trump in the later seasons because it takes place in current day. I don't know it just seemed to click for me

Have you all ever tried recommending your favorite episodes of great podcasts to convince others to listen? I think that could be interesting. What episode of any podcast really grabs the listener?

Also, is there a podcast that tells you various interesting facts about specific countries and tackles different countries in each episode? That would be fascinating.

Also does anyone here actually use Spotify now for podcasts? We just got all of our shows on Spotify and I'm curious how many people do that over a dedicated Podcast app.

15 episodes in and really enjoying King Falls AM. There's something about Ben's acting I'm not a huge fan of (edit: actually, Ben can be super annoying otherwise too lol, especially when it comes to the librarian), but otherwise having multiple characters alone makes this much more fun than the few episodes of Night Vale I've listened to.

And yeah, it's pretty obvious they're going for a Twin Peaks vibe with the tiny town and wacky townies. Weird characters are always fun.

Also the ads are hilarious.

I have finally switched over to pocketcasts. I only used the built in app forever vut iOS 11 actually made it unbearable. Everything is gigantic and you cant see a simple list of shows anymore, I also can't mark shows as played.

I can not believe how badly they ruined that app and store. The only benefit now is my gaming podcast on the featured section is a gigantic icon right on the front of the category haha.

Their mission: to protect the country from vampires, werewolves and a whole pantheon of unmentionable terrors.

Almost 50 episodes into King Falls AM lol. Needless to say, it's very addicting. Maybe not the best stuff I've heard, but addicting.

Also I'm finally finding the correct vibes and moments and situations (and games to play while listening) to really be able to focus on these narrative-driven podcasts, so I think I'm gonna start SAYER over from episode 1 when I catch up on King Falls AM (in just a couple of days no doubt). Like I said earlier, it's super intriguing, but can be hard to follow if you miss even a few seconds of it. Would love to continue with Wolf 359 too, but I kinda spoiled some major twists for myself on accident and haven't been feeling it since.

e: 56 episodes in. I keep staying up way too late listening to this lol.


e2: caught up! The podcast definitely does the humor better than the serious stuff, but the most recent episode was very well done and the central mysteries are very intriguing. Just kinda hoping they'd pick up the pace a bit, it still feels like things are just starting to get going and at this pace it'd take them years and years to finish the story. I can wait a long time, I'm just afraid they'd end up dropping it at some point.

Gonna focus on games and books for the rest of the week I think, and start (again) with SAYER on Sunday.

Any good news podcasts like NYT's The Daily? I'm looking for something similar because I've grown very tired of the host's voice.

I've finally caught up with Magnus Archives (can't say anything that wasn't said before, it's brilliant) and I'm looking for some nonfiction series similar to Stuff You Should Know. I have tremendous amount of respect for these guys, as they've been recording for what, 10 years now? So it's understandable their passion is not in a place it once was and I'm definitely not dropping them yet but I need another podcast that will cover similar range of topics (science, food, you're-not-gonna-believe-it stories, general life stuff...everything!). I know there are many podcasts that focus on specific topics (99% Invisible, Reply All, Last Podcast on the Left to name a few that I like) but I always prefer to check something more general before digging in further. Minimal amount of banter (or banter that is actually fun) and good production values will be a plus.

Question: does anyone here enjoy live episodes? For the most part, I really dislike them (although some shows, like How I Built This, try really hard to make their live episodes as close to pre-taped ones as possible), so it's always baffling when hosts are all excited to announce live episodes.

I was/am a big true crime podcast fan, but does anyone feel that the quality of them have gotten worse? Sword and Scale, True Crime Garage, etc. All have lost the luster.

Certain ones I don't mind, such as Hollywood Babble-On which is recorded live for the most part, because I think they're set up to provide better audio. Other ones, like MBMBaM, The Adventure Zone and the Drunks & Dragons live episodes aren't all that great because they're more "spur of the moment" and you end up losing a lot in the audio (levels might not be mixed well, audience members might cock up the flow of the hosts etc.)

I think hosts like them because it gets them out of whatever room they usually record in and provide the chance to perform live in front of people. I suppose the fact they can charge an entry fee makes them happy, too.

Are they any good serious audio dramas with aliens or alien abduction stuff? I feel like a fictional podcast would be a great fit for that sort of show, but I've never come across one.

Any NFL podcasts worth listening to?

I launched my fiction audio drama podcast today. I have been doing my non-fiction podcast for a year or so now so it was nice writing this and having a change of pace. Check it out if you think it sounds your thing!

Wow that would be some memory..Yeah I may well have. A few years back, I started a podcast set in this world. It was a fictional radio station broadcast, but I never could make it work long term and sacked it off quite quickly. I always really liked the world and kept it on the backburner, then recently dug it out and wrote this 12 part series using the same world. Amazed you remembered it though haha.

What's the new hotness in Podcasting? Has there been anything with the impact of a Serial or S-Town since Dirty John?

Really enjoying Chapo Trap House for political current events.

Going Off Track & Turned Out a Punk have been great for interviewing punk rock musicians and people associated with punk. If anyone has other suggestions for that niche, I'd love to check it out.

Aren't there a few podcasts that feature people/comedians playing D&D? If so, any good? Recommendations would be cool because I think it could be interesting for background sound at work.

As for music, there's a New Zealand radio show called Retrospect that covers 60's garage obscurities and it's a blast.
