My favorite contestant so far! So earnest.
Kim Kyungran:
She's fierce, she's "pierce", Kyungran takes no bullshit from anyone. One of the older contestants, she nearly always holds court often calling out the likes of Gura and Sangmin for their shenanigans or any slights towards her. This "scary nuna" can bully people around with the best of them.
Yes! Get in here!
Just saw ep 2 season 1. Kim Gura is good at being a driving player who can make the entire game appear one way while all the while stacking the game against you. I dont care if folks hate him. I like aggressive play and villains. He was needed for this. You need a mastermind thats ruthless, because when you end up in a game uncertain what to do you always know you can go to the most ruthless one there and find a player with a plan and a chance. No matter the game he makes certain he doesn't come out appearing like an underdog to the group and thats his strength. He makes them certain he has a plan and can use their own paranoia and survival instincts to his advantage by keeping calm and making certain they are nervous. They come to him and thats why he does well. He keeps them shook up and makes them easy to manipulate and use.
I think it's quite an interesting game, but it's entirely dependent on knowing Yutnori itself, which I didn't pick up for a while.I don't like tactical Yutnori as I don't know how it's played. :(
Now immortal saying about Sunggyu posted on korean chat room said:Sunggyu is ugly but handsome
He's rude but well-mannered
He's stupid but smart
He's close with Lee Sangmin but he's not close with Lee Sangmin
He can't understand the games but he's the one who understands them the most
He hates Hong Jinho but he's a fan of Hong Jinho
He's hyper but lazy
He's desperate but confident
He's rude but he greets others the most
I just finished S1Ep10. I can definitely see the skill in Tactical Yutinori. The Lana Del Rey in this episode is hilarious. I'm glad this thread popped up and reminded me to get back into this show...have to finish season one this weekend.
It's their television content rating, as in, "not recommended for kids under 15 years old".While we're at it: What's that 15 in the intro of the later seasons supposed to mean?
This article seems like a good recap:Can some one explain the real life reasons why they're always making references to Sangmin's money woes? Someone says he has had his assets taken away, and he says his wages are garnished. I don't want to search as I haven't finished S1 yet.
I mostly skip the Deathmatches to be honest.finished season 1, want to start season 2
i don't really start watching new tv shows, and hadn't started anything new in ages. because people always say "oh you gotta watch this" and then i start and it's shit but i can't put things done after 1 episode (unless they're utter garbage) so i waste a lot of time on something that i could have avoided. specially with american shows, it's been like 3 or 4 years that i've ignored all new shows.
this one i randomly started because of this thread, and i'm so glad i did. thank you OP.
this was the first korean show i've watched in the original language and i absolutely loved it (i've watched one or two korean films before). so this was really my first entry into korean entertainment and culture. one thing i loved is the respect people have for each other, specially with younger people towards older people. like sunggyu, no matter how back-stabby he could get, he was always so respectful, i didn't know that was part of the korean culture.
the main games themselves ranged from good to great, but i have to say, i wasn't a fan of the deathmatch games. tactical yutnori was fucking exhausting and i still didn't get the rules fully, and the rock paper scissors game was unnecessary with how it usually played out. indian poker wasn't bad but it usually had one side that just wasn't good at gambling.
i grew to really like kyungran, she played really well, and went all the way without really betraying someone.
my second favorite was sunggyu, he turned out to be way smarter than i anticipated. even tho i didn't like jinho a lot, i liked his relationship with sunggyu, and also sangmin's relationship with sunggyu. jinho and sunggyu had a lot of scenes together in the behind the scens clips that weren't in the show, they had like a full on bromance going on.
in the end i wish kyungran was the winner, and she could have easily won had the circumstances been slightly different (her supporters were weak compared to jinho's) but still, she came really far.
oh and the fucking sad montages at the end with lana del rey and random covers of other songs, at first i was laughing but by the final episodes they really worked.
Thanks! This is definitely enlightening. He is incredibly entertaining to me.This article seems like a good recap:

It doesn't even mention The Genius in any way so you can freely read it and get to know the wonder that is Sangmin a bit closer.
That's the minimum age recommendation for viewers. Like PG-13 for movies in the U.S.While we're at it: What's that 15 in the intro of the later seasons supposed to mean?
Let the entertainment flow. Thanks! This is definitely enlightening. He is incredibly entertaining to me.
Some more profiles.
Lim Yohwan:
Emperor Terran and probably the most famous Starcraft player in Korea -- the land where Starcraft players are stars of their own. Some people say he "hacked" The Genius and saw through the show's meta-game -- and he kinda did, but not really... His wife Kim Gayeon is also notable for being such a formidable person that we hear rumblings about her even she is not present and when she DOES appear on the show in season 3 she leaves an unforgettable impression.
Season 2.
Since I'm on this kick, I guess I should ask if there's anywhere to watch non American versions of the Mole? I love the civilian American seasons of that show, would've loved for it to continue.
Awesome, I probably won't get to them for awhile anyways, since I still have three seasons of The Genius and one million other current english shows to watch, but I'm glad to know they're out there. Looking forward to your thread!Yep, there's been a few subbed. I'll write up a few in the game show OT, but to get you started, WIDM English Subs on YouTube is the current Dutch subber.
I finished the 1st season. Are the 2nd and 3rd season available with subtitles yet or do I have to learn korean?
