So many people doing Tempered Elder Dragons quests quith less than 350 Def...
I'm using a Wide Range support SnS, so my success rate in PUGs has incredibly increased, but I cannot do much to save people getting one shotted by normal stuff ah ah ah.

Gotta break the tail off before you can get one, unfortunately. Sadly I have no *good* way of doing it, and I need two of the shits.
no, you can get it from the rewards so do investigations wit gold rewards for more chances
agreed, also horn, wings, etc. you can get them from rewards not only from breaking it.
No you see, even if you cut the tail, even if you carve that tail, you may get something other than a tail from it.
I had this happen to Kushala Daora as well, carving not-a-tail from its cut tail. I was legit angry at that, considering how hard it is to cut his tail.
Ah, it seems I was misinformed. Guess its only the dragon piercer then.
It's such a stupid ass thing. It can be very difficult to cut a tail from monsters like Nergigante and Daora, WHEN THE TAILS ARE CUT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO GIVE TAILS!

Ha! Awesome! I've been using similar but only guard 3 and nothing else and even that feels like easy mode with constant blocks :)
It's funnier when you do that, on a bowgun, with a shield mod. It's equally indestructible. 0 damage from a tempered Teostra supernova. Shit's awesome.
Goddamn I've invested so much in Bows, it'll suck if I have to invest on something else just to cut tails specifically, lol.

boy i sure do love joining an arena quest and spending a lucky voucher only to have the party somehow wipe before i even have a chance to jump into the pit
It should be the same for MHWorld, but me and @LaughingBanana finds conflicting info for MHWorld, and is currently asking the questions in the subreddit.
Can you guys tested this for easy monster like Pukei/Barroth ? Try shooting normal arrows only to their tail until they are limping, then trap them and use melee attack, see if it immediately severs the tail or not.
Lance can cut tails, except the shield bash attack. Gunlance can cut tails, except the Shelling attack.
speaking of, I actually had a "revelation" this morning (wait, yesterday morning, working raveyard shift is a bitch) wondering if Guard would work for the Greatsword block, and it does indeed work, you can block Diablos charges for example just as easily as with a Shield, except it EATS through your sharpness.
The problem was, I absolutely HATED Greatsword and how slow it was (not slow moving, although that too, just slow attacking) so that little side project was dropped after 1 diablos investigation lol.
Lance are one of the best weapons to cut things because you can aim the pokes upwards right at the tail.
Legit one of the most hilariously frustrating things about the game, not getting the associated part with breaking/severing the relevant monster part.
Last night I fought Xeno and tried to cut his tails by pelting it with normal bow shots. In the end he died before I could manage a cut but the strange thing is, as I carved him I actually got a tail. I don't think his tail can be gotten as a carve rewards? It's really weird....
Pretty sure you can carve Xeno Tail from his body. Edit : Will check when I go home, my memories might be failing me...

Random question. I assume the Partbreaker skill applies to tail cutting as well? (assuming you're doing severing damage in the first place?)
What def is recommended for them anyways? I think I have around 410 def. Been doing ok.
I know that, but I kinda assume that the tail can be gotten only from cutting its tail because all the other monsters are this way, at least as far as I know (not counting investigation rewards.) Since Xeno cannot be investigated (please don't tell me that he can.........), naturally I assume that the only way to get his tail is to well, cut his tail.
Man, it's like CAPCOM was trying to troll me for this, hahah.
The game certainly got a lot more enjoyable since my last post. My roommate and I are making our way through the game steadily. I still wish the game had better UI and controls. Like why can't I just hold L1 and press a shortcut button? Why do I have to use a radial menu with an analog stick?
The game also sorely needs a "press select to get an explanation of what's on the screen" feature, since you basically have to resign yourself to looking basic mechanics up on a wiki.
The level design is probably one of the best parts. I really wish other games would design areas like this instead of just rendering a wide open plain and then sprinkling content around arbitrarily.
On a side note, I don't think I've ever encountered a more annoying character than the handler in the main story. Part of it has to be the English VA but her role in the story and dialog is just so cringey.

I have around 450 DEF after MegaArmorSkin, Armor Powder, Adamant Seed, and cat Coral Horn, and Vaal Lunging attack deals around 100 HP damage (I have Health Boost 3 which bump my health to 200, and the lunge cuts my health by half)
I see the Xeno rewards, can't remember when they appeared.
I still have 500k zenny so im good there but yeah, focusing only on tempered investigations where I'm not so much gathering shit as usual, plus doing multiple sets...for multiple weapons (lol) equals no armors spheres (
So yeah, we've figured out how the ritual deco tables work. Hurray. Too bad my next 40 tables are garbage. The ritual is so worthless, I wouldn't be surprised if it has the same properties as old charm tables, as in whatever seed you have may make it so you literally cannot obtain certain decorations from your rituals. inb4 next patch screws it all up
Except when it costs 100k to augment anything. Your 500k is chump change, I've already burned over 10 million zenny and I'm back to nothing.
Do some exploration where Tobi appears in High Rank. and get them that way. As far as I know Low Rank hunting yields LR investigations.
