Really surprised that the Hokuto demo is this week not next week. But that's great news because I get to play it tomorrow! Also, the trophy list for Hokuto is out and its really business as usual for the series. However watch out for spoilers in the trophy list, as I noticed two particular listings that suggest some potentially cool fights that haven't been mentioned/shown so far (which has only served to hype me further on the game!

If you miss my stream, here it is (full demo):

It's a short demo. You battle Shin and do a side-quest. The graphics don't look all that good, but the soundtrack is dope. I think it will never get localized, tho.

Gotta say, Kenshiro feels GREAT to control! And heck, it felt that way with no upgrades whatsoever unlocked! I have a feeling he's going to be stupid strong when maxed out, as you'd probably expect and hope.

I think it will never get localized, tho.
Why not? I'd say we have a pretty decent chance at getting it, actually. I don't see why anyone would jump to such a conclusion as early as this.

I kinda disagree about the graphics bit. I thought the character models looked great. Its not the prettiest game ever for sure, but the game is also 60FPS so that's a huge plus for me. one that I can definitely forgive the game for not looking as pretty as 6 or Kiwami 2.

Definitely super hyped for this game now. The combat and the smooth frame rate make me really happy, and knowing its got the normal Yakuza stuff to do, bye bye spare time!

Combat wise the only thing I want to know is how you do the heat moves reliably. I've seen a few different ones, but no idea how I pulled each off. Also, air combos are in! And aerial moves for Kenshiro when in his climax heat mode. Its so very refreshing compared to the last few Yakuza games. Kinda hard to believe this game was made in such a short time span.

I really wish they'd stop making the default walk speed super slow and forcing you to constantly run with x, making it really hard to control the camera at the same time. Third game in a row now.

Also I hope there's an option to change the font in the full game like in the other games, because this one is kinda fucking with me.

Yeah, its especially bad when Kenshiro plods along in the Junk shop. Wish they'd have reverted to 0's run speed and given you the option to hold down R1 to walk. That'd have been better.

Just played the demo. I enjoyed the gameplay on foot. Not too fond of the driving though.

I miss the type-writer-like sound effect that's used when someone talks during voiceless dialogue. Now there's just... nothing. It's not a huge deal, but after getting so used to it after many a Yakuza game, it just feels empty. I hope there's going to be an option to turn that sort of thing on, but I really doubt it.

Enjoyed the demo but I really hate the sprint with X button in HgG and the camera control is very junky....If I remember correctly, the camera isn't this bad in Zero or Kiwami 1.

Interview about the game. If I guess correctly, I guess it says that the game will have about as much content as Ishin? And of course, the game didn't go all it could go with the violence since they wanted to keep the rating D (17 or older). Also it is closer to the Manga in terms of presentation than the Anime.

Ishin levels of content eh? That's actually pretty great as I felt Ishin had a decent level of content (right up to the grinding for the last couple of items for the completion list!).

I started Yakuza 0 the other day. So far I am on chapter 2 and have done just about all side quests possible to this point. Except the pocket circuit ones that require a ton of money, and one for finding a different shakedown. Is there anything else I should be doing as I go through the game to alleviate getting all the trophies later? This game doesnt seem as bad or tedious as the other games trophy lists.

Honestly I wouldn't even bother trying on a first run because you need to beat the game at least 2x anyways and the game has missable, entirely arbitrary hidden trophies in every other chapter that you have no way of knowing about unless you dig through a guide online, so you may already be boned anyways.

Yeah, pretty much what pa22word said. There are missable trophies in every other chapter, and believe me some are not obvious without a guide at all. For all the side stories, mini games, completion list though you can do everything in your first playthrough, or better still do what you can on your first playthrough and then do the rest via the premium adventure mode that unlocks when you finish the game. Its really up to you though :)

I enjoyed the Hokuto ga Gotoku demo a lot. It's really funny seeing a Yakuza game but with the coating of a manga franchise instead. I mean it's not too weird, after all we already saw the Yakuza characters acting out as different persons in Kenzan and Ishin, but still. I could definitely see other franchises receiving the same treatment. The car part wasn't too exciting, mostly because the controls feel a bit weird (that riding theme though, also Monkey Ball and Binary Domain!). It's easy to adapt to its weirdness, but I'm sure they could've done a better job there.

In other words: Please come out at E3 saying "you are already localized", Sega! That is all, thank you!

mudai yep I was just about to rave about the Binary Domain theme too! Awesome nod.

Overall the worst part about the demo is it took me about four and a half hours to download the damned thing. Wtf Sony fix your damn servers fucking shit I downloaded Titanfall2 in around 7-8 hours today and that game is like 50 GB >=\

The game actually reminds me of ishin in a few ways. Wanted Man jobs are back, gear system looks back and applies seemingly to both clothes and the car. Smallish hub city, etc.

The run mechanic is baffling. I'm gonna have to go grab me a roll of duct tape for this game because I'm going to destroy my thumb holding the X button down for 50-60 hours T_T fake edit: oh shit I forgot about the rebind button function! I'll probably just remap x to a trigger or something

Kinda lame we didn't get a mini game in the demo either other than the race. Would've been fun to burn an hour on the bartending game or something.

Overall really pumped for the game. Gonna be a long 3ish weeks tho ;.;

I was glad to see Wanted Man jobs back as well, I love anything like that.

I think I'm the only person that kind of liked the buggy though. I mean, it doesn't drive well, but I love the insane power slides you can pull off with it, I had some really fun moments sliding around into enemies provoking fights in the wasteland!

Don't know if anyone here has a favorite Yakuza series boss fight, but my personal favorite has to be the feral tigers in Yakuza 2. I never felt that level of anxiety until Saejima fought the giant bear in Yakuza 5 (funnily enough, the bear returns in Ishin). Man vs Wild I tell ya.

Shit I can't believe I missed the bear in ishin! Was it a substory? I did 55 of them but I guess that was one I missed =\

Finally got the hanneman cp in mahjong, this shit took me around 8 hours, i was going crazy with this.

Yeah, Ishin had a brilliant bear side story. I loved it, its asset recycling done right. It was in one of the smaller town areas (northwest of the map, where the Shinsengumi HQ is if I recall correctly). I forget the exact reason why the bear shows up, only that it was a brilliant fight.

Yes as a matter of fact. It happens a few chapters after Ryoma joins the Shinsegumi. It's the EXACT same bear as the one Saejima fought with even more quirky hitboxes.

Edit: the bears can be fought in the tournament arena as well.

Was it just 0 that had the bear in the tournament, or did Ishin do it as well (I forget, I just remember the damage output from enemies being insane in the Ishin arena!)

Kiwami 2 is pretty hilarious as well with its arena
since the game throws the tigers at you in arena fights just like Yakuza 2. However unlike Yakuza 2 you can do 8 player brawls, so fighting a tiger (or two), Majima, Komaki, Kamiyama etc. all in one place at once.... glorious madness!

Finally got the hanneman cp in mahjong, this shit took me around 8 hours, i was going crazy with this.

Nicely done :) On the bright side with it out the way you should hopefully find any future Mahjong trials easier since the game (and challenges) never really change from game to game!

Finally got lucky in a kong that had 4 doras and i got like 7/8 point title in total, but i will never touch Mahjong again in this game, that thing burn me very deep.

Finally picked up Kiwami today. I was worried I might not be ready for another adventure after the hours I put in to 0 last year. I was wrong. Drawn in straight away .
Also, I watched all the cut scenes from 0 again before starting, and I had forgotten just how good and how high production values those scenes were.
It's good to be back.

Anyone watch the latest Yakuza stream from Sega? Really appreciate the level of detail and love put into the localization, all the way down to title fonts of arcade games that had a limited release in the West...

The Shin boss fight from the Hokuto Ga Gotoku demo

Still not really sold on the Shin laugh here. Not a huge deal, but man I wish they just ripped it straight from the anime like they did the ATATATATATA's.

It's good to be back.

welcome back to yakuzaEra! enjoy your stay! Hope you end up loving Kiwami as much as I did. I rank it at the bottom of the game's I've played in the series, but I still loved the heck out of it. Like despite it being last of the games I've played it was still top 10 2017 for me lol >.<

EDIT: because you're playing Kiwami I think you'd enjoy this (plus it hasn't been posted in a quick min lol):

I only have 8 JCC wins and mahjong left. With no prior mahjong knowledge this could take at least 15 hours right?

There are 4 cp for mahjong, 3 of them are not that bad but 1 it was very hard for me. But it depends, you could get lucky and get a massive hands and get the hard one very easy.

Either way prepare for playing it for a few hours, i knew some of mahjong from multiple previous games and still took me a long time.

Also do it with Majima because i found it easier than Kiryu, and do enable red dora in the mahjong settings because that makes red titles appear that gives you extra points.

Good luck and post here if you need help.

Thanks!

Watching it now, and what is everyone's opinion ITT on honorifics? I'm kinda meh on them honestly. In context a lot of the time they're pointless in English and can be accomplished with an adjective or title here or there. Occasionally though when you just cannot fit the meaning without including them without awkwardness, I'm cool with it. Stuff like Persona 4 was just hard on the eyes to read through, though >.< honorifics everywhere regardless of context just because just doesn't work.

I rather the honorifics be left in, as long as its Japanese voice acting I'm fine with it, if its English VA's saying stuff like "Kiryu san" it just sounds weird for some reason.

Like to be honest I think that was probably my issue with Persona 4. It just felt /wrong/ to hear it in english like that. Like a "how do you do, fellow kids?" type thing.

Yakuza went through weird translation inconsistensies. Like the first 1st game with the dub had a lot of Japanese terms in it. And then the PS3 games had "Kazzy" and stuff. They are doing everything right now.

As long as it's Majima talking to Kiryu, I'm fine with the occasional "Kazzy-kun" honestly >.>

It just feels like tradition at this point.
