I'm surprised to see the love for Muppets Treasure Island, I really like the movie but had the impression that franchise purists weren't fans of the adaptation films (and based on its box office numbers audiences weren't too enthusiastic either). I also like that it was a world where Muppets and humans coexisted outside of the central characters.

I never followed the classic series and actually just started watching Season 1 on DVD. Everything feels good about it, especially from a mock variety show format. The show has a very positive energy to it.

I prefer Brian Henson's adaption movies to Manthann Tbh. The first Muppet movie and Caper are only equally solid movies in their list so far in my eyes.

Big fan of Brian Henson's work as well. Hoping one day Disney let's him do something with the Muppets again. I think the last thing he had a hand in was The Muppets' Wizard of Oz.

Oh nevermind then. He can burn like a witch.

it wasn't that bad but man it was a let down. His highs are so high though hard to drag the man

To clarify, he was only Executive producer on Oz. He also performed Sal Manilla. So let's just blame Oz on someone else :p

Once I had a friend die, at a pretty young adult age, and we watched a Dark Crystal afterwards, in memorium. That was as weird as you'd imagine. Never was fond of that movie.

I loved growing up with the Muppets in the 80s, but dear god Jim Henson's Storyteller and the JHH were nightmare fuel for me. I still remember that little porcupine boy...I'm sure they are great and all, but the memories of them terrify me in my 30s.

Great thread! Absolutely love the Muppets.

One addition to make - my beloved John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together!

I still listen to the album of the music every year.

I loved the 2011 Muppets movie. I wish they'd release a longer cut, though - apparently the film had a 40+ more minutes of material that got cut in the end, including some footage that appears in the trailer.

C'mon Disney, make it happen!

Also, is Muppets Most Wanted worth watching?

I need help identifying some specific muppet special I saw a long while ago. It's about 4(?) puppet farm animals who each have cruel owners. The animals eventually team up to escape their masters. I think there's also a witch involved and at some point. I'm thinking this aired on Nickelodeon or other similar channel during the early to mid 90s. Also, Kermit cameos at the beginning to introduce the fairy tale.

Any idea what I'm thinking of?

I think you're probably talking about The Muppet Musicians of Bremen

Disney's forthcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service is going to be a prime hub for remakes, reboots and all manner of familiar IP, at least according to early buzz about its initial film and television slate.

Headed by OTT programming chief Agnes Chu, the as-yet-unnamed service — envisioned as a competitor to Netflix — will be a home for family-friendly fare including Marvel feature films and such TV series as a live-action Star Wars (with multiple variations already in the works, per CEO Bob Iger) and, sources tell THR, a reboot of The Muppets.

Looks like the Muppets are getting yet another chance, this time on Disney's upcoming streaming service.

No details as to what this rumored reboot would be that I've seen as of yet.

Makes sense.

I doubt it'll really very a reboot of the ABC show although I'd absolutely love that.

This is honestly the first thing rumored for their streaming service that has me interested.

Whether it's like the recent show or something completely new I'm totally all for it. Maybe they can FINALLY release the rest of The Muppet Show for streaming while they're at it.

I remember you having an avatar when this place first started up. What happened?

Honestly, I don't even need a new show. If Disney just dumps the old Muppet Show and films on the service I'm subscribing day 1.

When I was a kid I was on Sesame Street from the late 80's right through the mid 90's. It was such a crazy experience for a kid to have. My first day on set I freaked out because Bruno the Trashman was carrying Oscar the Grouch and Bruno was huuuuge in size to a four year old. One of the more random things was Snuffleupagus was stored hanging from the ceiling.

They dump them on the service...

But it's still only seasons 1-3 of the OG series. No Muppets Tonight, No Muppets'16 no other Muppet things.

Fraggle Rock has an awesome intro.

I never really understood why parts of it was changed for the UK (and perhaps other countries). Like the US and British versions were both in English but it seems the UK one was set at a lighthouse, with someone different in the lighthouse than 'Doc' as shown in the US version. This is the intro I was used to in Australia (same as the US version):

Also on the topic of intros it seems they've finally released the intro to the new Muppet Babies series as well, and it includes similar lyrics to the original:

There's also a soundtrack here if anyone wishes to hear anything further:

Digging on YouTube for Henson/Muppets content, found this great multi-part series - it's a 1968 documentary on puppets with Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Jerry Juhl, and Don Sahlin

Another fun gem: Tales of the Tinkerdee. This unaired pilot, produced by Jim Henson and written by Henson and Jerry Juhl, was shot in Atlanta in the summer of 1962. The pilot featured Kermit the Frog, Taminella Grinderfall and King Goshposh, characters who would all reappear a few years later in the Tales From Muppetland TV specials.

Hi ho.

Jusf finished rewatching first Muppets movie. Oddly a piece of media that being so outdated makes me love it more.

As a kid i never appreciated how easy the rich and famous contract was.

I got my self mega bummed out today so before I go to bed I've decided to start watching Fraggle Rock.
I'm already cheered up~
Gobo: "...there's no outer space! You must be joking!"
Uncle Matt: "No, I must be packing!"

It's a simple joke but I really like it.

It's great to hear Henson helping you out, hope things are better now. I really relate to Uncle Matt's struggles of our world.

First episode had a little too much singing for my likes, but it was a nice introduction. Looking forward to more characterization and antics.
I'm just gonna assume anything written in Fraggle language just so happens to be legible in English...and German :V
