It wasn't BS, it was from this interview where Honda said McLaren would constantly ignore them, wouldn't listen to their input on PU integration, and wanted to control how they worked. The total opposite of how they're working with Toro Rosso.

Couldnt they smoth the mount points with the rest of the body?

Probably the best implementation of the halo yet from how it continues the curve of the red decal.
Standard unit, standard mounts, limited margins around for aero.
Really it's the godawful mounting points that make it look so especially hideous.
Most of what we see is faux from all the cars tbh. They don't want to give too much away and the final body kit will have all sorts of bits added or removed compared to what we see now.
That's a beautiful helmet. Glad we are going to a more retro style, I think these are much more iconic. At the distance you normally see helmets on TV the vast majority of designs of the last couple of decades look like a total mess.
I still don't get why they put the presentation so far back when the car was finished ready for a shakedown. It's not shocking that it would leak.
Because just like with video games, (controlled) leaks are great marketing.
