it's the ceiling in the reflection. you can see the walls and windows end at it. the ceiling happens to be roughly a similar color to the phone making it look like it is peeled or something.

I took a closer look and I think you're right - I can see the outline of where the pillars join the ceiling, as well as smudges that wouldn't be there if it were really peeling. I stand corrected. Was fooled for a minute there though!

I picked up the device from O2 had an insane mix up with identification on the purchase, as the manager was ill-informed with the relegations and wanted passport documentation. Apart from the crazy security overload I've set up my Silver iPhone X with no hassle, seamless integration of the gestures and Face ID is insane

quick thoughts: LOVE this app switcher. It's really fast compared to my 6s. It should've come with one of those qi chargers. gotta get used to reaching for the control panel. The only thing i don't like is force closing apps. let me swipe them down to close.

Someone help? Got my new phone. Set it up using my existing iPhone. Said it was restoring. Then error'd and said to pick a different backup. Picked one. Now that screen disappeared and it doesn't seem to be restoring at all. Any way to restore from a backup without formatting the phone again as I've installed iOS update etc.

Formatting the phone won't revert the update

God I hate the whole setting up a new phone process. Surely it's possible to replicate the new phone exactly the way I left my old phone through the backup? Everytime I upgrade to a new phone a have to sign in to all my apps again.
At least with the new iOS it allows access to passwords on the keychain when on some app login screens. So much better than before.

New gestures have been easy to get used to and FaceID's been on point so far. Had no issues getting it to work, even when I haven't had my face directly into it. Side glances work just fine to unlock as well.

Getting used to the size drop from the 7 Plus, but no issues day one so far. :)

the 'swipe up halfway and pause' app switcher is a bit crappy. But the 'swipe left on the bottom bar' is fast becoming a favourite - I usually toggle between the last few apps rather than look for something I used earlier in the day (for that I'd just use search or have the icon at hand on the dock). So for bouncing between the last 2-3 apps its great.

I saw a few videos - with black bars at the side aka 16:9, images and videos actually are smaller on the X (nearer to 4.7 model) compared to the Plus models (no black bars needed).

Face ID is gonna get some getting used to. I'm getting a lot of fails when the phone is super close to my face.. which is how i normally unlock it when i'm in bed for example. How's the speed for you guys? It's definitely not as instant as touch ID.

Face ID is working well so far. Heck, I'd say so far it performs better than Touch ID.

Screen is really nice but anything think text when scrolling (flick the screen relatively quickly) is quite blurry / fuzzy?

Best iPhone ever . The screen . The feel

Face ID accuracy increase tip

Face ID has 2 rounds like Touch ID does to scan your face

In the first round hold the camera in front and scan
In the second round hold the camera at a very low angle under your face

It dramatically increases Face ID accuracy especially when the phone is under your face

this narrative needs to die. there are no quirks, rushes, concessions, etc. There is zero question that the design of the phone and tech (love or hate) is all deliberate.

I generally tend to stay away from first gen devices like this one. Refined version will be out next year.

Nice that you are all enjoying it though. You do you. :D

it actually allows this in every app that uses the password entry field from UI kit. On top of that, if the app is registered to a website/company, it will automatically present you with the saved passwords from that site. So my bank app hitting the key in the app will bring up my bank's saved passwords automatically (for some reason on my phone, Touch ID doesn't work with my bank app, even though it works perfectly on my wife's phone. and ONLY with that app. every other app it works fine.. driving me nuts...)

Loving the phone very much so far.

One question though: There is no way to show the time / notifications on the OLED Display when the phone is locked / screen off like the Android Phones with their always on displays?

even the apple watch doesn't support this despite having a mode you would think exists entirely for that purpose (nightstand mode)

You can disable auto-lock or use a 3rd party app to keep the screen on but in both cases you are obviously losing the lock

I know I should probably wait a little longer, but the apps are still listed as loading / waiting and they're not showing any signs of progress..

Man I forgot every Apple launch day brings out the worst in "people". Every review is great but the comments are poisoned with hate.

I get a kick out of most of them, lol

"The specs are garbage look at the Note 8!"

Then I show the benchmark with the iPhone X scoring double in both categories with half the specs.

Feels good, man.

Hope you all enjoy your phones today!!

I have a friend that does that... but then doesn't know what to say when I bring up benchmarks lol

Makes me sad. Hopefully Apple will see the error of their ways. Always on time + notification summary would be great. Although I'd trade it for an always on watch face (S3 battery life can easily handle a static, mono, low brightness time display. I don't need GPS or LTE streaming so let me use that battery for something useful to me)

Does the TRUEDEPTH camera actually detect depth? I think kinetic 2 has proper depth sensing but isn't this 'just' an IR camera?

kinect 2 was a time of flight camera, this is like the kinect 1 which uses a dot projector and measures the distortion. also similar to intel realsense

Can I ask someone with iphone X and beta 11.1 to check if 3d multitask is working? Because the gesture of iphone X seems quite slower than the 3d multitask option.

Thanks.

Trying to get this bad boy to activate right now. Holding this thing does feel futuristic though. I don't know if it's the rounded edges of the screen. The fit and finish is great.

Loving my new X, the screen is mind blowing and without a doubt the biggest shocker.

I lost my call history for some reason though which sucks. Still shows up on my Apple Watch though, any one have any thoughts on that?

What the hell? Is anyone having trouble finding Reachability? I went to the Accessibility settings and don't see the option. I'm going exactly where the screenshot in this article says and don't see it.

https://ios.gadgethacks.com/how-to/turn-trigger-reachability-your-iphone-x-0180907/

Figured it out. Had to update to 11.1, didn't know it was added afterwards.

This thing looks absolutely gorgeous, and feels sooo good in the hand. Nice solid dense feeling.

The only thing that would make this phone absolutely perfect would be the 120hz refresh rate from the iPad. Super sad it didn't make the cut. I can already notice the blurring of text when I scroll. Tiny nitpick though, I'm loving this thing coming from a 6

One thing that's made it easier for me to use the app switcher is to pull the app from the middle to the side instead of pausing, kinda like in an arc. Feels way more smooth and intuitive than just waiting in the middle after you pull from the bottom.

Damn, confirmed my fears about how much of an inconvenience the Face ID is compared to Touch ID. I guess I'll wait for next year's model and see if they find a way to bring back Touch ID.

It's never come back. They aren't going to find a way because they don't want to find a way.

Quick question: Are both speakers holes on the bottom of the phone functional?

One is a mic. The other speaker is in the earpiece.
Im not sure the left side "speaker" holes contain the microphone. I know the barometric vent is there to regulate differential air pressure since the phone is so water tight. The only reference to a microphone in iFixits tear down is actually in the upper speajer housing. But there could be one at the bottom too. Of course there is the rear mic as well.

do the camera and flashlight button on the lock screen do anything? I'm pressing and nothing is happening.
