I hope Monolith Kyoto can grow to become another game developing studio like they want. It would boost the first party lineup that much more, even if they start on smaller end AA games. Build them up as the next exciting developer like Monolith proper

Another option would be to hook the Kyoto studio up with one of the smaller 3rd party RPG studios out there(Silicon, Tri-Ace, etc.) They could do all the development and design work while Honne and his team are responsible for the overall direction, art, story, etc.

I'd say Tri-Crescendo (co-devs of Baten Kaitos) but they're in tokyo

What do you guys think is the deal with the NES Classic? They haven't announced anything since they said they intend to ship more several months ago right?

Is that the one they said they would start selling it in June?
I think they just said "summer", so I was digging around trying to find if they've come up with a more specific date yet and haven't been able to find anything. Seems weird that we have so little info about it at this point. I wonder if it's going to be the exact same thing, or if they'll add different games.

I wonder if Nintendo's doing all the Labo software in-house, or taking an ad-hoc approach like they did with Wii Play
Motion or Street Pass Mii Plaza games where they get different developers to make their own software.

Yes and No. It's definitely a Nintendo EPD "joint", but I wouldn't be surprised if on variety kit, 1-2 of those games have assistants.

There's so much potential in Star Fox. I really want to see if fully realized. The space combats. The online multiplayer. So many modes you can have. I can see all the potential. Whenever Retro is done with this game I'd love to see Nintendo give it to them and tell them to blow it up. I want a lot of online features and modes.

I saw it earlier. One will tie in with the Mario Kart ride at Universal Studios. It's all making sense now. I completely forgot about the rides at Universal and Iwata talked about getting My Nintendo stuff from them and interacting with them in some way.

There's going to be a DK Ride and Yoshi Ride too. That tells me we could be getting Yoshi and DK games on mobile.

Sorry if I'm a bit late to the party, these are my predictions for the rest of the year. I think we're getting a "big" Direct sometime in March or early April showing off info on Hyrule Warriors, Yoshi, Mario Tennis, and a Fire Emblem trailer. There will be an announcement or NSMBU+, a Kirby Star Allies demo, South Park, and a release date for Wolfenstein II. End the Direct with an announcement of GTA V.

Pokemon games usually get announced in their own Direct, so I'm expecting one before E3 and have more info then, with a Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch reveal there too.
I put all the third party games that already got announced for this year in but Bandai Namco, Square Enix, and Ubisoft have games coming too, according to Emily. This year is going to have tons of great third-party games.

[Jan] (Super Meat Boy, Celeste)
[Feb] Bayonetta 1 and 2 (with: Owlboy, Fe, PayDay 2)
[Mar] Kirby: Star Allies (with: Scribblenauts: Showdown)
[Apr] Nintendo Labo, Hyrule Warriors (with: The World Ends with You, SteamWorld Dig 2)
[May] Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (with: Dark Souls: Remastered, Megaman Legacy)
[Jun] Yoshi (with: Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight: King of Cards)
[July] Mario Tennis: Aces (with: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Dragon Quest)
[Aug] Grand Theft Auto V (with: Steep, No More Heroes 3)
[Sep] Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch (with: Fornite: Battle Royale)
[Oct] New Super Mario Bros. U+ (with: Project Octopath Traveler)
[Nov] Pokémon (with:?)
[Dec] Fire Emblem (with: Megaman 11)

Would like to know what you guys think!

So if Smash is a September release to kick off the online service, what do you think the odds are that at Christmas they do a Switch version of the only Wii U bundle I've ever seen generate demand?

Animal Crossing might come in 2018 as well due to the mobile game being released last year and Nintendo usually releases console games less than a year after the mobile games launch (Mario Run->Odyssey, and FE Heroes->Warriors)

Also, we don't even know if GTA V and Fortnite are coming to the Switch.

South Park was the Ubisoft game that I was referring to back in January. I'm pretty sure we'll hear about that very, very soon.

Yeah, I'm expecting a Direct soon with South Park, Burnout, and Crash. I have no idea what to expect on the first-party front other than Yoshi and Fire Emblem.

I still think a Direct is coming a lot sooner than most people think. Like either this week, or next. Nintendo probably didn't announce one today because its Presidents Day, but if its this week, they could announce it tomorrow, and release it Thursday. If not, then I'm thinking next week.

Yeah, I just thought Fornite would be a good game to launch with Online as well considering how online-based it is and the creator showed interest in a Switch port.

Very very soon?? Hmmmm

Well I've been saying the Direct would be next week aka March 1st. Maybe we can play a game of hot or cold? Would you say my guess is more hot or cold?

Not everything has to be announced in a Direct, I thought we learned this by now.

Please don't turn this into a Direct Countdown :/
Don't worry about me please. It's super annoying you feel the need to keep telling people what to do. I'm not starting a countdown. If you have a problem ignore me. I'm going to comment. I'm not starting pages of people making countdowns.

Thing is, if Nintendo does port Smash 4 to the Switch, how iwll they bring the Masterpieces over? I don't think they'd have a Game Boy/SNES emulator released by September.

They might.

Their online service is launching on September and they talked about free NES games for the subscribers. They should have other emulators ready too.

Hope you are right on the direct: I would expect also something Megaman -reminder of Legacy Collections-, Ace Attourney and ports of third party games in general -release dates for de Blob, among others-. GTA V is an E3 announcement I feel like. But the overall expectations seem reasonable. Maybe they address VC and Online. If they do, I expect Smash there as well.

Not so sure about Pokémon: I think is this year, but I can see a proper reveal at E3. Who knows.

The first three months is what I expect too. Seems right to me. Some comments:
  • I would add South Park in March because of leaks and placeholders.
  • I expect Wolfenstein 2 to be Q2. April or June.
  • Mario Tennis is Spring, so it cannot July. My guess is April.
  • In June/July maybe we would have Ys VII or/and TWEWY. April is too early I feel like.
  • I think Animal Crossing is July, to have a title in the summer break in Japan like they did with Splatoon 2 last year is important. GTA V is July.
  • Steep, NMH3 and Dragon Quest no idea: the first one is missing in action and the third one, well, Square Enix has been extremely shady with it. Almost no information whatsoever, so I expect the Switch versión to not be localized -because SE treats Nintendo fans like second tier costumers-.
  • Fortnite will come alongside the online as well. Agree. Smash absolutely is September.
  • No way Octopath is in the holiday season: my guess is Sumder or December. It may get overshadow otherwise.
  • Fire Emblem is late summer -August, probably-, December is too late I feel like. Vakyria Chronicles 4 could be there.
  • In general, if insiders are right -hope they are-, I expect substantially more third party support, such as Dragon Ball FighterZ, Tales of, more games from Bethesda and Ubisoft...

I feel like GTA V would be a really good game to be announced at E3 too. To me, Smash, Pokemon, GTA V, and some other games sounds overwhelming for one event but who knows, Nintendo is very unpredictable.

Pokemon would also be a really good thing to announce at E3, but as far as i know all Pokemon games have been announced in their own Directs, sometimes having a cameo at E3 with more info. Now that I think about it, don't see a Pokemon Direct happening before E3 if were getting a March Direct, as long as it gets announced at E3... which is sort of a 50/50 at this point. Idk.

March seems really close for a big unconfirmed AAA game. I believe Emily mentioned in a thread she expects an announcement in March though.

I was thinking Aces wouldn't fit into anything before May since we already have a game coming out each month before then (assuming Hyrule Warriors comes out in April, which I think is a safe bet). June would be the last chance they release it if they want to stay true to its Spring release I guess.

I didn't put too much thought into where third party games released. I tried to spread them out evenly but didnt think about their developments, just bein lazy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Animal Crossing, paired with Smash, Pokemon, and GTA V, would be a wicked 2018. I'm not a business analyst or anything but this seems like it would be almost too wicked, who knows though. Nin might want to save some games for 2019 haha.

Yeah thats true. We got a demo for Octopath not too long ago so I do expect it to release atleast before Fall.

Really had no clue where to put FE. I figured since we haven't heard anything about it since... E3 or something... it might've been pushed back a bit. Just checked and VK4 is coming in March... whoops.

I do expect way more third party games on the way because of how popular the Switch has become, I think 2018 will be one of the best years for third party games on Switch.

Thanks for the feedback though, I'll update it when I get the chance. Hopefully we'll know soon about what Nintendo has in store for us in 2018!

No, I think 2018 will build a solid foundation for 3rd party support and 2019 will be the breakout year for 3rd party titles. An insider mentioned late 2018 to 2019 when we would start seeing big 3rd party titles come over to Switch.

Animal Crossing in July when it isn't even announced? It won't come out until september at the very earliest if they reveal in a direct soon. That's a major game and they will want to market it for months. Yoshi could be the july game.

What ever happened to that sushi game for 3DS from last E3? I seem to remember Nintendo spending quite a lot of time on it in the Treehouse Live bit, but I haven't heard anything about it since
