The South African segment, which was only like 5 seconds, killed me. I couldn't stop laughing.

Never even heard of The Soup. But was a Community fan so gave it a go.

This had completly lost me with the yank reality rubbish at the start. Was thinking this was going to be the whole show, but hung in there. Turned out ok.

Few good laughs. Kunts and the Korean specifically. Lazy Monday viewing.

In for next week. Hope they ease back on the American stuff, was weaker than the international content, but unfortunately think it's going to make up the majority of the bits.

Best part was that the end credits auto-exited 14 seconds before they ended, so I didn't get to hear the whole song because of how Netflix made their own mobile app work.

Now I'm wishing once again that Netflix had done Community rather than Yahoo.

Did Love end? I wonder why Gillian wasn't in that segment.

I'm also not finding this nearly as funny as Tosh.O

Huge fan of Talk Soup and that was a really weak opening. The writing was so bad and the clips weren't very good.

Enjoyed the first episode. The South Africa bit and the Korean bit had the wife and I dying!

It was pretty meh. I will probably make this my hungover Sunday viewing at best. The Netflix stuff got tired fast and I just felt like Joel McHale should be above this kinda thing. I haven't seen The Soup or anything else he's done so I guess this is his bread and butter?

I loved it. I thought my wife wouldn't like it but she lauged pretty hard so we'll watch it every week.
I catched some episodes of the Soup a few years ago when I was watching Community and didn't really like it but this time it worked.

The American reality stuff is good if there's good material, bad if there isn't. I think this week there wasn't really material for it.

You'll groan through it until they find the right way to edit some clips together from Gold Rush: Alaska.

I am curious too as to what bits they can keep doing. I'm assuming recurring characters won't come back (even though I doubt that E! is ever going to do a Mankini spinoff), but can they keep editing an endless list of Inside Edition previews? Can they keep stitching together Gold Rush Clips? Is Gold Rush even still on TV? Is Nick Lachey allowed in now, or does he still have to stay out of it?

When she threw the bike at the motorcyclist, I laughed harder than I have in recent memory. So glad Joel and this format is back.

Show is going to be a lot of American reality stuff.

There just has to be good content there for it or after a while they have enough of it to start doing full segments or recurring jokes

Really enjoyed this - never watched The Soup, but love McHale and Community.

I'll keep watching this. Cheesy and snarky, and it's easy watching. The opening where he looks at various US TV shows honestly took me a while to realise they were real. I thought they were parodies. Unbelievable stuff.

This show feels weird on Netflix though - at the end of the day, it's a throwaway show and timely. Someone watching in a year isn't going to go back to Season 1 and watch from the start because it'll be out of date. Netflix is designed to keep this stuff forever - so in 20 years, will we still be able to watch this?

Joel McHale's new talk show on Netflix, The Joel McHale Show With Joel McHale, recalls his long-running stint on The Soup for several reasons, including the "genial snarkiness" of the Community alum. Naturally, everyone's been asking McHale about the differences in the clip shows, as well as what Netflix has to offer compared to E!. In an interview with Variety, McHale contrasts the streaming company's supportive yet hands-off approach to the input he got from his old network—namely, "Don't talk about the Kardashians."

Being on the same network as The Soup never meant that Keeping Up With The Kardashians and its spin-offs were off-limits for McHale and his writers, but neither did the latter go out of their way to mock reality TV's most famous clan. McHale says the Kardashians ended up in segments like "Reality Show Clip Time!" because of their ubiquity. Apparently, this got to Kris Jenner, though, who complained to former E! Networks president Ted Harbert, who in turn asked the Soup writers to "lay off of [Jenner] for a week."

But what started as the occasional admonition from the network president turned into a mandate after Harbert left E!. McHale says future input from the network was pretty straightforward: "Don't make fun of the Kardashians. We don't want you to make fun of the Kardashians anymore."
It was disappointing for The Soup gang, with McHale saying he initially worried "the show is doomed because that's why the show worked, because we would make fun of ourselves. It's like when Letterman made fun of GE in the '80s. You have to bite the hand that feeds you." Ultimately, the talk-show host says, "The network really did not like when the Kardashians first came out and then we just said Kim Kardashian was only famous for having a big a– and a sex tape."

E! declined to comment to Variety on McHale's quotes.

So you don't know anything about him but you think he should be "above it." This is literally his thing.

Very decent first episode. Glad they've kept the same spirit of Talk Soup in tact. Very promising. Happy to see my comfort television show return.

Considering that it's basically supposed to be The Soup 2.0, I'd say it hit the mark.

Not even "weak" or "middling" but I'd say this first episode was good and funny. Then again, I've always appreciated the style of humor. This is junk food programming at its best, for me.

Holy shit-what is up with those Korean dramas? I'm floored that so many of them had that same gag.

I'm honestly surprised Netflix didn't have this or something similar a lot sooner, unless I missed it? Like, I would've gone here before I tried something like Chelsea if I were in charge.

We still watch clips of Talk Soup on this very thread. How many comedy show or movies will we remember in 20 years regardless?

With Joel bringing Mankini over(who was actually a writer and producer on The Soup) I wonder if he brought or will bring anyone else over.
Maybe eventually Kelly Levy who was also a writer, producer and always did the impressions of Amanda Bynes, Brittany Spears, etc.
I always loved those

Edit:
God the edit stuff was so good

I can't wait until their is some Netflix synergy between this show and Terrace House. Would love to see Joel and team dunk on some of the hysterical moments of that show.

This is like a good version of tosh.o. That tosh dude is painfully unfunny and Joel is a funny smartass.

I missed The Soup and Joel McHale so much. The Netflix (dun dun) show is just as good and that first episode made me literally LOL. Special props to the Beastmaster, South African and K-drama clips. I hope it opens those shows for Netflix (dun dun) distribution so we can really see how batshit those stories are. I want to see this get extended beyond that initial 13 ep order.
