Watching right now. There is a proper time stamped spoilers section in the middle. So you can watch the video and skip ahead.

I agreed with them regarding most of the action scenes. The first couple (up to the big car chase) I actually kinda liked, but then I got tired of then. Black Panther as a hero really is just a bit over powered to really be threatened by much.

And the CG really was pretty jarring at times. I liked the locals ("the Vistas!"), but not much else.

A little surprised they didn't talk about t Andy Serkis very much. I thought his badge in the movie was almost charmingly evil, he just LOVED being a bad guy so much!

It was an alright review. I think people could take issue with one or two of the criticisms, but not in a negative or controversial sense, more in a misreading or ol' regular disagreement.

Expected a bit more.

"Alright" seems about right for a Marvel movie.

I wished they stopped reviewing any super hero movies, or went back to the two-reviews per episode way. When HitB started it was like, one new movie, one old. I feel it would be better if they always did that, contrasting maybe two movies against one another. Don't like this new format of having no repairman story either, it makes the reviews feel a bit too much like just another web review. Boring review, they need to review something less bland than the damn super hero movies.

That's how they get their views though, reviewing this stuff. I mean they got on the map by reviewing Star Wars.

I'm pretty much Mike. I too have grown tired of Marvel movies to they point where I can still enjoy them, but I'm not ever excited to watch them. They're alright.

I'm gonna assume based on how this page isn't filled with doom and dread that they didn't say anything controversial as I had expected.

Ummm. He isn't. He has the same powers as Cap.
Black Panther has Captain America enhanced strength and durability, but is ALSO completely covered from head to toe in bullet proof and kinetic energy absorbing armor (and folds up into a tiny necklace), and also an entire Q-style tech lab filled with vibranium powered gadgets.

He's like Captain America wearing armor even more advanced than Iron Man's. His only moments of weakness in the movie is
when he willingly takes a potion to remove his powers and he fights in armorless combat.

Took me a few seconds to realize what that "Black cougar" song in the intro was referring to. And I also suddenly realize what that guy was really trying to do, instead of being some random Italian delusional enough to make a movie.

I wouldn't mind if output was higher, but I think they should also review some TV shows, a bit like they did with the new ST.
the problem with that is that 2 or 3 of them need to watch the same show to talk about it. Because they're not going to do a Vlog style show (which is a shame) on their own.

Take for ST:D for instance. Rich binned it off mid-season, so there'll never be another video about the second half of the season. Cause Mike has no one to talk about it now.
How dismissive are they of it as a black event
A fair bit.

A little? But in the right way. They rightly acknowledge that this is a great step in the right direction for representation of minorities in these types of movies, but that at the end of the day, this is still a movie made by Disney Corp. to sell toys to kids, and that Disney should put their money where their mouth is.

I don't know if sarcasm was the right word, but they were not being fully serious because they know a company like Disney would never ever ever ever do that.

the edge
I'm pretty much with Jay on this one. I really liked everything with Erik Killlmonger in it and thought he was the best part of the movie. He was a great character and villain and I wish he was developed a little more and had more screen time.

Which is why it hurt even more that he got Marvel'd like all other villains had just had to die at the end of the movie because that's how all these movies end, basically.

Shuri is probably my favorite of all the characters, though. <3

e: Thinking back at the review, I disagree with almost all points Mike brought up. Saying that the tech in Wakanda was a little too much is really weird because all tech in Marvel movies is pretty much magic at this point of the MCU. If anything, I thought it wasn't developed enough and should be even more outlandish.

But it remains the last Marvel movie I'm going to see in the theater for the same reason Mike mentioned. I made that decision after Dr. Strange and basically made an exception for Black Panther. Still waiting for Thor 3 to go on rental and won't watch Infinity War any earlier. I'm just so tired of the Marvel stuff, which is a shame because I basically just can't appreciate it anymore and not because it's outright bad.

No. Mike was being sarcastic when he said that.

Eh that's true. But at this point i'm a bit weary of when they said it.
I really thought Mike was the old sad cynical fuck that he is and doubled the amount exactly because he knows Disney is never going to do that and not because he was being sarcastic or against it.

that is indeed what that was. It's facetious, because believing in a company giving up profits (see tax bill) is rather delusional, no matter how well intended that sentiment may be.
Sarcasm requires more snark and a bit of disgust.

Yes, because he knows it's not happening. you're kinda implying that Mike thinks it's a stupid idea
I think he does to a degree.
We get it you hate RLM now
No you don't. Because I don't hate them. Just feel let down by them.

If you want me to get out of this thread (cause it sounds like it) Then just come out and say it.
You're seeing what you want to see.

I don't think i'd go as far as saying he is against it. But he was being sarcastic with the 50%

RLM could show up at a BLM rally and donate a million dollars to charities and someone here would argue that it was being cynical or sarcastic.

I don't want to speak for Shy, but I've had my problems as I've outlined before, but I can maybe see how Shy would be suspicious considering their fanbase posts stuff like this on their subreddit (and are rated highly looking at the number of upvotes, and has a "no politics" policy):

Im going to say something that'll get me shit. But people are praising this film for the same reasons they praised Wonder Woman, and those reasons have nothing to do with the quality of the film.

This is a good movie, not close to being the best cbm movie ever and the whole cast being black doesnt change that. He's a superhero in central Africa, of fucking course everyone will be black.

The same way people acted as if WW was impossible to fault when honestly it was pretty mediocre just because WOMAN EMPOWERMENT!.

Really? Do you really need a demigod character to feel like you're being empowered?

This film will be impossible to criticise for atleast a year now.

The reason that the rotten tomatoes score is so high for Black Panther is because a large chunk of the reviews are political bullshit.

I dont get the whole thing of this being some special thing for African Americans, Most of the film is in Africa and the present day american africans share almost nothing in common with those traditions shown in the film.

Not to mention the fact that Black Panther is literally the richest character in all fiction. He's like if Bruce Wayne had a massive family and entire country who knew he was batman and was even richer.

It will forever baffle me that a generic Marvel movie has turned into a giant discussion about race. Where disliking it makes you a member of the KKK and liking it makes you a virtue signalling SJW. I can't wait for everyone to forgot about this movie in like a month.

Red Letter Media appeals to the edgy white guy internet demographic, always has always will. Their entitled to their own opinions, however melanin deficient they may be.

Thinking about it. I'm surprised they didn't mention M'baku. He was great and stole almost every scene he was in.

Thinking about it more. They didn't mention a few of the big things. I understand the vid can only be so long, but i would like them to talk about some other aspects of the film.
Evidently not. First you accuse me of hating them. And you're now saying you know that how disappointed in them i am. Which is it ?

Here's a thought. Maybe you should stop being snide, and come out and say you want to say to me.
RLM could show up at a BLM rally and donate a million dollars to charities and someone here would argue that it was being cynical or sarcastic.
And it's through no fault of their own.

You right.

Jesus those comments. And this is the fanbase they've been courting over the last few years. :(
