Urghh. I deliberatly pay extra to avoid using Yodel, and if the site i buy from uses only Yodel for delivery i use a different site to buy from. I actively avoid Yodel at all costs.

So, what happened in the end? Did she turn up with the parcel in one hand, dragging the delivery man by the ear with other?
"What do we say to the nice man, Jimmy?" "Say sorry properly!"

In all fairness to the mum, she was really apologetic, explained the situation (apparently there were roadworks blocking the way for her son, which is crap because she got there fine, I got home from work fine, and it would have taken 2 minutes to walk to my house from the end of my street which was supposedly blocked), and got my package to me in one piece so can't really fault her!

She rocked up in her own car rather than a yodel van and someone was in the back seat on their phone, whether that was the bone idle piece of shit son or not, I dont know. I'd like to think its a case of "if I'm doing your job for you, I'm dragging you round so you can see how its done properly!"

Guys, Hawksmoor is amazing. If you've not been and you want somewhere good to eat in London, go. Also Matilda was very good.

Hawksmoor are excellent but their prices are frightening, especially for a big meat eater like myself.
I've always gone there on a deal (soft launch etc...) and yet always end up paying well north of 50 a head.
Did you go to the one on Covent Garden? That's a good one

It is pricey but you get what you pay for, it was well worth the price. We paid £160 for 2 of us and I'd pay it again. Yeah it was the Seven Dials one.

I've been to Hawksmoor a few times, but the last time was with a friend who had also been to Gauchos. He said the latter was better. Need to try it.

Last time I had Hawksmoor, I felt the sides let it down.

Guys, I've been here for almost two years now and I'm still confused. Do I or don't I tip at pubs? I'm sitting here in a nice craft tavern writing and I've got one more hour/pint before I have to head back, and I'm wondering if I should be tipping, not tipping, tip at the end, or... Please help, I've been ruined by America.

I've never tipped for drinks in a pub - I would for food but for a pint, no.

Awesome. Thank you. I just wasn't sure because it's a nicer place than your typical pub, it's Cheshire (and they seem big(?) on tipping here), and the bartender sent me a freebie because of a pest at the bar. I still feel like I should do something, but at least I know it's generally not the norm, which is reassuring.

No tips! No need to tip! we only tip at restaurants if the service was exceptionally good and we usually let taxi drivers keep the coin from your change. but other than that nada.

Cheers! It's just confusing because this area always seems to have a 'tip' line on the bills, so I never know what to do. As I've just moved to this town too and it's fairly small, I don't want to leave a bad impression since I'll be coming back quite a bit.

I guess if you were really happy with the bar staff, spent time chatting with them, that'd be a reason to tip, but it'd very much be the exception than the rule.

Yeah as the others have said we generally don't tip for drinks at a bar. However that doesn't mean you absolutely cannot, I've been to a few bars that have a tip jar on the counter that you can drop your change into if you like.

It's bad enough a tipping culture is creeping in here in the first place. Don't make it worse!

Yes, indeed, likely the best steak I've had. Although it's more of an annual excursion now given I tend to drop £60+ on each meal there. According to my Canadian gf, Hawksmoor Bar (Spitalfields) has London's best poutine.

Tips are usually factored into the final bill at restaurants, for drinks at a pub, no tips are expected.

Was meant to go Hawksmoor at work with some people the other week but some of the people I work with are so fucking flaky its pissing me off.

One example is that we have an "office mayor" who gets budget to organise socials. He sent out an email asking who wants to go to this new bar which opened.

The HR and finance girls all moaned saying "we always just go to a bar, lets do something else like karaoke" then they got all excited about the idea. So we booked a karaoke bar.

The day of, they all start dropping like flies after using £150 of the budget to book the karaoke. Leaving the 5-6 usual suspects (me included) with less drinking money down the pub, where we ended up anyway.

Long story short. I want to eat a fat steak.

Our work is like that we have social stuff going on but usually same people end up coming so it's like ehhh.

All you can eat is okay, but last time I had take away pizza hut I realised how bad it is compared to Papa John pizza.

I learned that in scenarios like this you have two options:

1) Sort something out early and ask for a deposit from everyone (so they're financially committed)

2) Stop bothering to organise something with a lot of people - just arrange something with the few people you know will turn up.

Go and have that steak.

Poutine you say? I love me some poutine. Best poutine I had in Toronto was actually in Hooters. Will have to check out Spitalfields, it's not far from my office.

So guys I found an old £5 note, can I still change it?

Ooh those are good recommendations I'll make a note of. I like both good steak and poutine. For the last year or two there's been a street food vendor in Sheff which just does it, which I particularly enjoyed.

Old £5: try a bank. I belieeeeeve even if not, the Bank of England is always supposed to exchange them, so uh, there must be a way of doing it directly.

And just to follow up, while I didn't dress as Newgrounds for the 00s party, we did end up watching a load of old shit from it and "vintage" memes. I threw together a sort of Avril relatively predictably.

I ended up binge watching an old webtoon after mentioning Newgrounds that I hadn't seen for over ten years. Was surprised how much I remembered.

What's the point of the American pizza chains anymore? You can get much better pizza for the same money at the likes of Franco Manca etc.. or if you want a cheap late night pizza, the local takeaways' got you covered. All can be delivered.
BTW Santa Maria can definitely back their boast of being "London's best pizza"

Haaa thank you. It was good fun, I have some makeup skills and I don't get enough excuses to go all for it often.

I like a Franco Manca when out, but when having a night in, it's a Dominos. Mainly for the sides for me. All the fried chicken. And then some pizza for dessert.

I honestly find Franco Manca a bit overhyped. They always have long queues, but their topping choices leave a lot to be desired.

A new pizza place opened near where I live and it's great. Good value too. The cheap pizza place opposite is likely shitting their pants as there's no reason to go there now.

It's worth it. A once a year thing maybe.

It's the same for Sticks and Sushi, although I'm happy to drop a lot more than that there.

Why do you need an excuse? You wanna wear make up then wear make up, plenty of guys do. And it looks good on you.

Kind of you to say! I do some basic stuff some days anyway, some mascara and foundation. But if I'm going all out and dressing to match, that's time and effort, and I tend to do that if there's an occasion. But yes. I probably should head out more.

Yeah, I'd never queue for them. They're solid, not life changing.
Lots of good pizzerias around.

I first had them in Brighton on a quiet day, which I think I preferred to one of the London ones which was a big more tight and a wait. If I'm out, it's near, it'll be a nice choice, not the best ever.

Franco Manca kinda lost me when they sat us down & then forgot we existed for 30 - 40mins whilst serving everybody else around smh. Pizza Pilgrims & Homeslice for out & about pizza-ing. For something real tasty: L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele, just a pity it's on Mars/Stoke Newington.
