I only got to the starting village but I think I'm going to turn the voices off, the timing on some of the delivery is all wonky

You want harder? Do a no magic run.

Sure, but i thnk this is stupid to strip out gameplay element for make a game any harder. You are suppose to use rule to be able to progress, and not remove rule to make progress harder, the balancing was clearly way down the list of proirity for this release, it shows a lot ! Played another 2 hours since yesterday, the game is really too easy, this really remove any sense of achievement.

Okay, it just popped up on Steam for me. Honestly, i knew there was a remake coming, but news of it being localised, let alone being on PC are a *total* surprise to me. Hot damn!

Read: It's not on the precious baby Switch.
Or you know, I have a PS4 and a switch and I'd rather play this kind of game on a handheld capable device than any screen. Just like I'd rather play a big AAA game on a PS4 with better graphics.

EDIT: looking back on it though, I'm dangerously close to port begging so I apologise to all.

I'm using reshade with a simple personal presset, a bit color saturated but made the IQ much better and similar yo the original game.

I'm not at home right now but i will post the presset later with some pics.

User Warned: Portbegging - Please do not come into an official topic to voice you are only interested in the content if it comes to another platform.
I haven't looked into it but I'd guess used Vitas are pretty cheap these days, at least 2000 models.
They're still like £100. Why on earth would I pay that much money just to play Secret of Mana? That's a ridiculous thing to suggest. I'll just wait until the inevitable port.

My daughter work up this morning, ran into our room and asked if we could keep playing when I got home from work tonight. I have successfully brought one more into the fold, although I don't know if she'll be able to wrap her head around the magic system(She's 6).

That game came out when i was like 7.... i think she will catch pretty fast :)

Are you guys having fun with the game?
So far not really, i'm probably waiting something that I will probably never get... we never know

But overall, this remake give me 0 reasons not to go back to the original snes game, they add nothing to make thing more fun then the original....

Yo, some of these remixes are actually really, really good - generally because they stick close to the original while accentuating what's already there. I was posting my thoughts on some of them prior, but I think I'll focus on some of the really good ones right now:

Fear of the Heavens - Remake
https://youtu.be/5t7bxFC5Sfo

Original
https://youtu.be/vhGDmBbQdsA

This may be sacrilegious, but I like the remake version better than the original. I know! I KNOW. But I'm a sucker for slow builds up to an extreme upswell, which this song does extremely well, and when it kicks it into high gear around 1:30 it just makes me think, "FUCK YEAH, SECRET OF MANA!"

Eternal Recurrence - Remake
https://youtu.be/Vd2KWWNnh3Y

Original
https://youtu.be/w4Kv3ZlvQLw

The remix is rather soothing, and I feel, quite a bit subtler than the original.

Did You See the Ocean - Remake
https://youtu.be/zlicjJHRS1A

Original
https://youtu.be/xrMDbcIxmXE

I will admit that it takes a little getting used to the beginning portion of the remix, as it almost sounds technoish, but when it kicks into gear around the minute mark, yeah it gets really good.

Fond Memories - Remake
https://youtu.be/5zFrozpJPbM

Original
https://youtu.be/YP1KQ-pW5yI

One of the few remixes I actually think is flat out better than the original. I like how the underlying note is akin to the original, but I like the softer tones, and when 1:32 kicks in is when I just fell in love with this one and solidified it as better than the original to me.

A Wish (snow theme) - Remake
https://youtu.be/b0BBhfVkS3I

Original
https://youtu.be/v6n1t2nMyds

Another one that I think the remake is better than the original. A Wish is one of my favorite tracks from the original, and somehow, they invoked an even more Wintry feel to the song than the original.

Just a few examples of some of my favorites so far. The soundtrack is far and away from just a bunch of "screeches" like the Kotaku article suggests it is - sure there are some REALLY BAD versions - but the good far outweighs the bad.

Are you slowly leveling up everything or just running straight through?

Yeah I took a double take on A Curious Tale as well. It's almost as if they decided not to tune their instruments and just went with it in one take and called it a day.

Yeah, she's a little put off by hit boxes and ranged weapons. Which even I have trouble with on the remake. She was pretty blown away when I told her it was a remake of an old game that came out when I was 12 and showed it to her on the SNES Classic. She liked the PS4 one better though, gonna have to see if I can convince her to give it a shot.

Yeah, I managed to get my gf to agree to play it with me. She's spending the weekend over, so I'll start a new game with her and hopefully she'll have fun.

As bad as those two songs are, Into the Thick of It is the bigger offender since that used to be one of the best songs. I'll be kind and not post the link to it.

A few hours in, some of the new music is good, but too much of it is a downgrade or just strange sounding that I can't really justify keeping the new OST on. Otherwise the game is a really faithful remake of Secret of Mana to the point where it keeps old quirks of the game that could have easily been smoothed over. I don't really get some of the extreme reactions to it unless you've just never played the original.

Most of those are pretty good (not a fan of that new Did you See the Ocean), and if the entire soundtrack were up to that quality it would be fine. But the majority of tracks I've heard are offensively bad... I don't see any way the good outweighs the bad here. The quality is all over the place, and that's got to be really damn jarring while playing. I've been scrolling through and listening to them as they're uploaded and there are maybe two or three that I'd consider to be good, and even in those cases I'm not sure if I'd use them over the original; the soundtrack constantly goes out of its way to have a different tone or style, which is bizzare since this was one of the best game soundtracks ever made.

Take "I won't forget," for example. It starts off sounding great, then decides to just keep unnecessarily cutting from one instrument to another with wild volume shifts in a really weird and forced way... why not just play it as it was? Why did they think this would make the track better?

As an example of what was possible with this opportunity to remake the ost, here's what a youtuber did with this track:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmfdSgw4Dtk

Way the fuck better. His "Into the Thick of it" also just makes the remake look like the trash it is.

This made me say "WHAT ON EARTH" out loud when I heard it in game

Yeah the town music generally leans towards bad to straight up awful. Except the Pandora one, it's quite a nice remix. Still would've preferred if they just did the music update Adventure of Mana style, super faithful to the original compositions, but with more modern instrumentation. Whoever decided to include the original soundtrack (albeit with higher quality sample rate by the sounds of it) did the remake a huge favour.

Ok, I didn't get this far in the Remake yet, but even I can admit that this is horrible for a remixed version. The OST of what I have played so far hasn't been horrible, but there are definitely some oddball mixes that I was very questionable.

Is anyone else having a lot of freezing going on? My roommate has had his game freeze twice now and lost like an hours worth of grinding weapon levels. :-/

I did get crashes 2 or 3 times. I did lose 30-40 minutes of grinding and learned to go back and save often during weapon grinding sessions. I wish this was pointed out in reviews over hurr durr the graphics.

I set the max item count up to 12 and regret nothing. This is payback for all the times the early game portion has been a super jerk to me!

The freezing is bad, but this game auto saves each time you change screens. There should be no major loses of time due to this...
