No chinese copies can be discussed here, it is on the OP. You can talk ocassionally about other legitimate brands like Megabloks however,

Is it really, or was this sarcasm? I honestly can't tell, I do remember Lepin stuff coming up in the old thread(s).
Lepin is quite literally knockoff lego. It's like going into a Rolex thread and talking about Rollex as a viable alternative or a Nike thread and talking about Nikee.

They straight up steal the ideas and work done by Lego and sell their blocks to complete the set.

Talking Lepin is like talking this:
85caf49bca7801b8598a7d08bd908910--cartoon-fun-bart-simpson.jpg

But really, it is buried at the end of the OP. Brands like MegaBloks or Kreo make their own designs and products that just happen to be compatible with LEGO. Lepin just steals designs and everything outright.
It would be like discussing those retro consoles you find at mall kiosks that come with 500 games preinstalled in the SNES mini thread.

While on the topic of China and LEGO
[Billund, Denmark November 1, 2017] The Beijing Higher Court passed a ruling earlier this year [July 22, 2017] that recognises the LEGO® logo and the LEGO name in Chinese as 'well-known' trademarks in China. The well-known trademark recognition is an important milestone in getting broader protection for LEGO trademarks in China. This means that the LEGO Group is now in a better position to act against infringement of LEGO trademarks also outside the toy category.

Peter Thorslund Kjær, Vice President, Legal Affairs in the LEGO Group, said: "The ruling by the Beijing Higher Court is very important for the LEGO Group. It reflects the significant effort and investment put into marketing the LEGO brand and products towards the Chinese consumers, and it further reduces the risk that consumers in China are misled when they see the LEGO logo or the LEGO name in future. We are now in a better legal position acting against infringement of LEGO trademarks and defending our trademark portfolio.

"We see this as a recognition of our status in China as a known and loved brand by parents and children, and we appreciate the support from the Chinese government and authorities to ensure the continued protection of millions of Chinese consumers as well as our unique trademark and logo."

The LEGO Group actively protects its trademarks globally and each year brings relevant cases to courts to ensure that consumers can always trust that a product carrying the LEGO logo or featuring the characteristic LEGO design is genuine. "Since 1932 the LEGO name and the LEGO logo have been a guarantee of the highest safety and quality standards. We are committed to doing what it takes to protect children and assure parents that when a product features a LEGO logo it will offer the best quality, as well as be great fun to play with. We will continue to take action globally when we see attempts to mislead consumers and infringement of our trademarks and copyrights," said Thorslund Kjær.

After building BB-8, I'm kinda running low on sets I'm interested in for the near future.

I might put one larger set or two smaller sets on my wishlist for Christmas (like maybe the Old boat shop or one of the modulars since those are always good sets). I might want some of the seasonal sets for house decorations, and as a semi-fan of the Brickheadz line I actually do really like Finn (but even I think Phasma looks rough, sadly).

Only thing on the horizon I want is the Batman Egghead Mech and that's mainly so I can add Egghead to my set of the Classic Batman TV mini-figs. And if the rumors of the big Harry Potter set turn out to be true, I'll be all over that (Diagon Alley is one of the favorite sets I own, but it's one of the few HP sets I bought before they went OOP).

I'm not necessarily complaining, this year I probably spent less on LEGO than I have lately, but the sets I have gotten have been fantastic (Saturn V and BB-8 especially), and my wallet will definitely thank me if I'm a little pickier with my LEGO purchases.

I sold the last of my "for sale" Falcon posters today. I sort of feel a bit guilty over it but not that guilty. Stuck an order in for Winter and Women of Nasa sets with some of the proceeds and I'm going to start the Palace Cinema this weekend. Feels good :D

Just got back from the Lego Ninjago Movie. Went with my three nieces, who, against my expectations, really seemed to like it.

For me. It was funier and more entertaining than I had thought. Maybe because my expectations were lower after the lukewarm reception. It's clearly subpar compared to the inventiveness of TLM and TLBM, but it's gorgious to look at, paced pretty well and had some fun jokes (even in dutch dub)

Do you think it'd be as enjoyable on your own, or was it the experience with your nieces that helped elevate your enjoyment?

I think I would've liked it on my own too, but offcourse hearing them react adds to the experience. It's not a great movie, just a mediocre to good one. I don't think you'll be sorry if you wait untill it comes up on Netflix or Amazon Prime or something.

So what is everyone currently building and/or hoarding?

For me

Building: Ultimate Batmobile I got for my birthday back in August. I love vehicles so could not resist multiple vehicle builds combining into one. It's a fun build so far but I've been so busy it's taking me a long time to build.

Hoarding: old school lego system, town, racer sets. Recently got some mini shell racers and One of the old school spyder Porsche racers.

Still not finished the death star. It's become a bloody nemesis. Been busy with work and baby so literally haven't been able to add a single brick in 2 weeks.

On the plus side, my frame arrived for my MF posters. Now mounted on my little girls nursury.

I'm just about to build the Ninjago Fire Mech, which I think has a really nice red/white/black colour scheme.

My current backlog includes Brick Bank, Destiny's Bounty, BB-8, Mini Cooper, and a few smaller sets. Should be enough for the long winter... or until I panic-buy 'retiring soon' sets in December, like I did with the UCS X-wing a couple of years ago.

I don't purchase many sets for myself. I tend to MOD the sets that I like for display. Gives me more time to enjoy the set while preserving space for future sets I'd like to purchase (and maybe MOD). Here's one of the smaller ones. Porsche 919 Hybrid which won 3 times in a row and called it quits! I made it 8 wide instead of 6.

Building: None. Just built the 41015 Dolphin Cruiser last week (technically my daughter built it. I was just supervising).

Hoarding lots! Waiting to build at a later date: -
10231 Space Shuttle Expedition
10227 B Wing
10212 Tydirium Shuttle
10215 Jedi Interceptor
10715 Vader's TIE Advanced X1
75095 TIE Fighter

Intend to get Saturn V to complement the Expedition.Waiting for better prices on the UCS Snowspeeder and MF.

Taj Mahal is probably (...probably...) not a buy from me, but I'm thrilled they're actually using the term "lego vault" implying there will be more. I could care less about the reseller market (I'm not inherently opposed to people selling old sets at inflated prices, but I don't hoard sets and have never/will never buy them over MSRP, so whatever) and I'm missing a bunch of the old modulars and winter village sets, among others. Soooooo they are free to rerelease those for me any day ^_^.

It'd be nice if they gave them even minor upgrades though, ie the Toy Shop from a few years back. The Taj is still a gorgeous set, but it actually looks a bit dated at this point IMO...lots of pieces and techniques have been refined in the last 10 years and I think it shows there.

dbonyx, you got any larger pictures of that beetle mod in your avatar? Looks great!

Here you go. I thought the designer used great techniques but the model is too long, the wheels/tyres too large, and the roof is ugly. I should know this car, I've had three of them before! So I made wheel arches/wheels/tyres smaller, bonnet is shorter and I now have a Karmann convertible to match my Westfalia camper LOL. I didn't have enough space for the spare tyre after the MOD but could probably fit a doughnut in there at some point. Last MOD would be to swap the tyres to the ones from the London Bus set.

The TRU Bricktober Lego Batman minifigure set which I imported from the US for £42 is now easily available at my local store for £14.99. That's the last time I fall for the hype of getting every minifigure and import a Lego set.

My backlog is enormous but I am going to try and build 76049 Avenjet Space Mission this weekend.

I really have no interest in Ninjago as a ip but they made some really amazing sets that can't be ignored. I want like 2 of 70607 , such a neat little set to repurpose in my future lego city. I keep trying to convince myself I don't need ninjago city lol.

I've never been big on Ninjago but I really enjoyed the film. The sets mechs or otherwise all seem to be great too, really good piece/price ratio for a lot of them. I will be picking up the city eventually, but suspect it will be a double VIP job :P

Why wouldn't you need one of the greatest sets of the year?

You need Ninjago City. It's such an excellent set. It would be a shame not to buy it... and place it right into your future LEGO city.

Strange question incoming, not that I expect anyone to know the answer...

I was just looking at the Women of NASA page on shop.lego.com. On the top-right of the page there is a rating of about 2.5 stars out of 5 from 3 reviews. If I scroll down to customer reviews, the rating is 4.4 stars out of 5 from 8 reviews. So which is it? Presumably the rating from more reviews, but why? Bad IT system?

Possibly that there are a bunch of deleted troll reviews that are taken into consideration on one of them. Wouldn't surprise me (both trolls trolling a set with women in it and Lego messing up their site).

Speaking of the set, I was a little bit disappointed in Jang's review. Making a dedicated Women of NASA set isn't inequality, it's a step towards equality considering that at least 75% (before 2000 probably 100%) of scientist figures up until now have been male. It's like with Wonder Woman or other female led projects - it's sad that it's so uncommon to begin with, but it needs pointing out to push awareness.

That being said, I would love to see some more NASA sets with some of the other major historical figures in them, like some of the Mercury or Gemini era astronauts. A Gene Kranz minifig would be awesome.

I'm not discounting this set at all, I already have it ordered. I would just love them to expand on all the NASA stuff.

Ugh, he said that in the review? Even as a guy, I hate when the tiniest little pro-woman anything comes out and there are men who immediately cry INEQUALITY while ignoring how pretty much everything has been male dominated for... basically forever.

Yup. He does a little rant at the end. In his POV Lego should not release sets focussing on one gender, but include both as much as possible to show it's 'people' doing amazing things, not just men or women. To me he misses the point there. Having these sets to celebrate women is still very much needed, as they still are underrepresented in many fields, and to let kids know that women too played a huge part in the space programme. I do hope, with Jang, that in the near future we don't need these kind of sets, because sexism and inequality will be rooted out, and it is though of as normal men and women chase the carreers they want, not those society pushes them towards. But we aren't there yet, and a set like this can show young girls it's okay to follow your dreams...

Building Resistance Transport Pod soon (it was a nice little gift).

Hoarding five new holiday sets. If I can make it through this weekend without building them, I have plans all next weekend, so I might be able to hold out to the weekend before Thanksgiving, which seems entirely appropriate by most standards.

But... I have quite the confluence of gift cards and a nice VIP balance right now. Nothing I can save or put back into an account... just money waiting to be spent. Hmm...

I should not have looked at that list. LEGO alone sucks up a lot of my spare time. In the last forum, I only read the LEGO threads. Thank goodness that Cosplay thread was sparse. There is an amazing Wonder Woman cosplay. Cosplay Era |OT|
