having no belt there is funny to me and rip his leg. Great knockout though, I will be rooting for Yoel when he fights Whittaker again.

Yep that leg was fucked all along.

Looks like Romero vs Whittaker is the plan (of course) providing both guys can manage to get their legs to work

I'm just really not interested in this at all unless Whittaker can make a huge statement by finishing him quickly or something.

Rockhold retiring doesn't sound too bad tbh. The division has moved forward and has evolved. I don't see him keeping up with the Top 5. He's still a legit threat for everybody else but the bluepoint to beating Rockhold is out for everybody now.

Pressure, rush him, and he's done. Sure he still has his Check Hooks when fighters rush forward, but his lack of a striking defense won't help him when he can't fight backwards.

Edit: about the rematch. I'm only interested if Whittaker can beat Yoel decisively via a Knockout or submission.

Whittaker beat him essentially on one leg last time so I'm not sure why (outside of a decent puncher's chance) anyone would think the next one would go different.

All these complaints about Blaydes I don't understand. That double leg takedown in heavyweight division is insane. He fucking battered Hunt on the ground - I wanted Hunt, and if he followed with one more strike, we wouldn't even think about it.

Been that way his entire career. Backing up he is so suspect. Great moving forward but if you pressure him that chin is wide open.

Yoel's leg is totally fucked. Looks like the rumors were true

From what I can tell, Rockhold's biggest weakness aside from the basics (weak jab, chin untucked, limited footwork solely based on around setting up kicks) is gauging distance. He really sucks at it. More specifically, he's really bad judging his opponent's range.

I think because of his size advantage throughout his career he has been able to compensate for his lack of fundamentals and distance management, but striking in MMA isn't what it was years ago.

At the weigh ins I suspected Yoel was off because of a terrible cut, but yeah, I noticed almost immediately in the first round that his leg was fucked.

I think Yoel could give him a better fight than the first one. But yeah I would still favor Whittaker. I was at the fight where he wrecked Jacare and became a believer then. That shit blew my mind seeing in person because it just looked so easy for him

But still Yoel didn't pace himself well at all in the last fight so I think the rematch could potentially be closer

Wtf this guy really faking it?

No that was at the weigh in. Romero's leg was trashed for this fight, he just did the best he could to hide it during the fight (though you could still see signs of it). Probably why he missed weight for the first time in his career as well

I actually enjoyed Romero/Whittaker. I think Whittaker takes Rockhold apart so I'm not mad at seeing Romero getting another shot.

Like Jimmy Smith pointed out tonight, I think the thing Whittaker is really good at is keeping guys guessing and keeping them on their back foot. Usually Yoel has the advantage in that respect when he fights because of his explosiveness, but Whittaker was able to rob him of it for the most part in their first fight. Unless Yoel finds a way to get through Whittaker's great defense, I don't see him winning.

That follow up punch against the cage was one of the nastiest fucking strikes I've seen in a minute.

Like GOD DAMN was that violent. Yoel rest's his other hand on Luke's head and then just fucking CRACKS him

I don't know why he bothers with the "I love you" bullshit. He knew he was out after the first hit, that's why he was able to hold his fucking head with his right hand and knock it off with the left. He's out there to kill people.

Agreed that the whole "nice guy I love you" thing is a total act. Romero is about as violent of a fighter as you will ever see in the UFC

Luke was out with the first punch. His eyes were staring the opposite direction and Yoel just didn't give a fuck lol

Rockhold was out by the first punch and guess what he did? His signature Check Left Hook. Left him wide open for Romero to get his Left Hook on that temple. Romero definitely did his homework as he slipped and threw his Left Hook when Rockhold tried to go for his CLH.

That second punch was brutal because, like you pointed out, his head got knocked into the corner. Making the knockout even more brutal and to top it off? Romero had to hold Rockhold's head as he threw God's Uppercut from Hell.

Rockhold might become the Overeem of 185, lol, if he keeps getting knocked out like this. It might be scary to watch him get knocked out like Overeem.

At a time like this, we are once again reminded of the dark chapter in the UFC history that is the Bisping reign at MW...

If only we had Mousasi in the mix.

I was actually really happy with the Bisping reign because he KO'd Rockhold

There are few fighters I'm less of a fan of than old Luke

Mousasi would get wrecked by Whittaker.

Yoel has been the only legit contender for a long time now, even though I was hoping we'd see Luke vs. Whittaker. Which is absolutely depressing, MW is in a really dire state.

I was conflicted because Rockhold was definitely the better fighter at the time and Bisping acted like such an absolute shithead after the fight even though Rockhold had been very respectful when he won the first fight.

All in all, I don't think it was worth having Bisping at the top. Whittaker basically swept the division and it's still rebuilding.

Mousasi would get wrecked by Whittaker.

He sucked in his last fight, but Mousasi is sooo slept on it's the story of his career.

I think he'd beat Whittaker in a competitive fight honestly.

Luke Thomas live reaction to the KO was pretty fun. I'm really liking that he is streaming on Twitch now

Hopefully this serves as a lesson to UFC to stop with the constant interim bullshit..

I dont understand why they can't just bill the match as "#1 contender/title eliminator".

My problem with Mousasi is that I don't know which version is showing up. Is it unmotivated Mousasi? Motivated Mousasi? He's talented, very talented, but I don't like how laid-back he is every other fight or 2nd or 3rd fight. He cruises to a loss or to a close decision. Then he comes and destroys his competition. :shrugs:

What a mess, I would have sworn 185 would be the Rockhold/Weidman division years ago.
The UFC should do a full reboot. This is all messy and garbage.

Still enjoying Rockhold getting slept... he is such a D-bag, and watching the embedded episodes for this he was worse than i'd ever seen him before, such a sour ass loser too.

It looks like Yoel is throwing a fucking bowling ball when does that follw up shot. And Luke is so out of it he doesn't even attempt to cover up, you can see hes just staring off into the distance then BAM. Fucking brutal.
