My first ever fight stick arrived this morning.

8qzYW52.jpg

I played with it for about an hour. Obviously will take a lot of work to get used to it, but I have been really enjoying using it. First game I couldn't even land a single Kamehameha, but after messing around in practice mode for half an hour I was soon able to use most attacks fairly regularly. R1 being to the left of L1 will take some getting used to.

I just couldn't get used and didn't like using the d-pad after basically ignoring it since the PS1 and found using the left stick quite inaccurate at times for things like movement and blocking. I have no doubt that the fightstick will take me many weeks to learn, but hopefully by the end of it I will find it a much more natural way to play than forcing myself to try to use the d-pad.

What stick is this?

Well, quests are busted for me lol, no matter what I do I can't complete them, I perform the action but they stay there as if I had done nothing. Seriously Bamco, you need to start communicating...

It's a Hori RAP4. Says it right on the stick. :P

Yea, Its a Hori PS4 Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai I was going to buy a more basic one, but Amazon had this one for £86 which is only £20 more than some of the much more budget options I was looking at, this one is large and feels very solid and well made. Stick sells for well over £100 on ebay so i was pleased to get it for that price.

it even has a touch pad, share button, PS button etc which is really nice

On PS4 I basically only got 4-5 bar connections. I Xbox I see everything. If all you're seeing are low bar connections, it very well may be on your end. That said, if you're playing on Xbox it could just be an Xbox issue. I see lots of low-bar connections on Xbox for some reason.
Yeah I'm on PS4. I actually saw some three bars last night for the first time after complaining in here, haha. I forgot to check my damn connection again, though!!

I think I've seen connections higher than 2 bars on PS4 like... Twice? It's weird, I usually get 0 or 1. It's not like all matches are super laggy either, I've got some with only 2 frames of delay despite supposedly being against someone with a 0 bars connection.

I've started to throw out 18's 214H after big combos. I originally did it to force low health characters to stay in and put the pressure on but at Android level people just ignore it, trade out anyway, and get blown up by 17 which leads to a free combo. You can of course just Dragon Rush and force them to tag in the low health character, anyway. It's been working surprising well and is almost always worth the bar when you know they want to trade out, at least at my level.

Sick comeback - love your Beerus neutral.

Can you always cancel blockstun into Vanish?! I just saw you do it and my mind was blown. It's at 1:41.

It's a "guard cancel" that you can do when you're by yourself that acts more like a traditional alpha counter.

Not surprised you didn't know since I've played tons of people by now and I think that video Moara posted was the first time I've seen it outside of myself using it lol

can vouch for HRAP 4. That stick is quality, I just wish it was easier to mod the stick art.

Noob boob here. What's the significance of ordering your 3 fighters.and what types should be in each slot
At the start of the match, you have 0 meter but access to both assists. Near the end of a match, when youre brought down to your last character, you cannot use assists but may have build up some meter. That's why you want your first character (called 'point' in fighting game lingo) to be able make good use of assists, without having to rely on meter for damage. Your last character ('anchor') is the opposite. You want them to be able to put on a strong offense even without the help of assists, and be able to turn meter into damage easily (for example, through extended supers, powerful H-specials or efficient vanish combo extensions). It's also more important for your anchor to have a good assist than for your point, as the latter might die before they even get to use it. Your middle character ('mid') has a bit of the requirements of both.

This is mostly MvC theory as far as I know, where you cant swap the order of your characters as easily. In DBZ, you want to pull back characters as they are hurt, and the other guy can force you to swap characters too, so its not uncommon to end your match with your mid or even your point. Thats why the roles are not restrictions, just guidelines. Play whoever you like, but these are things to keep in mind when picking an order for your team.

This is mostly MvC theory as far as I know, where you cant swap the order of your characters as easily. In DBZ, you might want to swap in your 3rd guy 20 seconds into the match, so the roles are not as prohibitive. Play whoever you like, but these are things to keep in mind when picking an order for your team.

As someone who played both MvC and this game competitively, the order definitely doesn't matter -as- much, but I still think some of it applies mostly when you're in major disadvantage. So I try to keep my order of my teams in an order where in the worst scenario, I can make a comeback whether it's with 2 or 1 character left.

Maaaan do I wanna buy this but as a casual player that would be able to play this literally every now and then I'm not sure it if it would be worth it. Is there a platform for casual players in this game?

There will be plenty of people playing this game at a low level. It's incredibly popular and the levels are already shaking out pretty well. I don't think you have to worry. Plus there's a lot of single player content to go through if you just wanna beat up on some stuff every once in a while.

Yeah, sonicfox been saying to discard thinking of it as point/mid/anchor, and more point point point

I'll be getting this at the end of the month and will be taking it to an event mid-march, how long does it take to unlock all the characters roughly? I generally quite competent in fighters (Placed 3rd at a convention tourney of Guilty Gear Rev 2 with Ramlethal) and if it's grindy unlocks I have a Turbo Controller on stand-by for that. I should be able to unlock everything in time, right?

Thanks. Are there unranked and ranked version of the multiplayer? I'd be playing unranked as I have no doubt I'd be thrashed in the other mode ...

And yeah, I'd probably play the sing player mode once maybe though it seems like it's pretty average at the best.

Android 21 shouldn't be too much of an issue. You just need to complete story mode for that. You can shorten the time a lot by just skipping cutscenes and dialog. SSB Vegeta and Goku are a little different. You have a couple options here. You can either earn 300,000 zeni for Vegeta and 500,000 for Goku, or complete the 5 stage and 7 stage arcade courses on hard with a final rating of A or better. The 5 stage unlocks Vegeta, the 7 stage unlocks Goku.

How does one deal with Tien's Chiaotzu level 3? When I practiced against it in Training mode, I thought the answer would be Vanish on reaction, but that's not it because Chiaotzu will just zip towards you anyways if you were close enough to Tien when he did it.

If you're on the ground, you can duck it. Otherwise try a level 3 if your character can.

If you're in the air, I think you can double jump too (at least after being snapback'd in), but if they just wait for you to double jump they can get you.

So vanish or duck (on the ground)

Oh, it whiffs on crouchers. Thanks, that's good to know. His recovery is long enough for the punish afterwards.

In the air, doing a double jump to evade seems pretty unreliable. Possibly a tighter timing required than taking a quick look at it right now. Seems that, in the air, the best bet would be to either level 3 in response or Vanish asap and hope it works out.

BS move tbh.

Oh, I also just realized that Sparking Blast will completely avoid it in the air, too. Expensive answer, depending on the situation.

Anyone happen to have any tips for my team: 16/A.Gohan/Tien.

Gohan's mediocre assist actually works pretty well at extending 16's dunks. I can dunk, assist, and do another air combo into a second dunk.

Tien was the first character I chose as a main, but now I'm starting to struggle a little more to get him working with the others.

I would bring A.Gohan in the point position(Nakkiel plays him in this spot) and 16 as your anchor. Tien (in mid) has the assist abilities to extend your air combos with A.Gohan.

I think Tien works best in mid. He has a lot working against him at the anchor slot (losing raw health; kikoho vs sparkling blast).

What are medals, how/why do I earn them, and what do they do?
Just small in-game achievements. I don't think they lead to anything, but they're displayed at the bottom of your Player Card. In the main menu, you can check what you need to do to gain one. They're a variety of tasks ranging from playing a certain character a number of times, to playing arcade, to whatever.

Hmm interesting. My original thoughts were that 16 is really good without meter and benefits a lot from combo extensions with the assists, then Adult Gohan comes in with meter and can power up easily at the end of every single combo with the meter 16 built, then Tien can mop up and potentially kill anything with 60% health or less with his level 3 once I land any sort of combo.

That is a good point about sparking blast though, it does kinda mess with the level 3.

Anyone here playing Hit/Black?

I'm trying to hit the SonicFox extension with two Time Releases in between a Black Kamehameha assist and I can't get the timing right for it.

I use 16 on point too, and he is a terrible anchor. Most of his damage comes from combo extentions like you said, so your only strategy as an anchor is to use the meter for combo into vanish into 2M - 214L and hope they fall for your mixup

holy shit this guys vids have been so helpful

he made the knee useful!

gave me an idea that since BVeg's assist takes so long i can call it out and use paralysis then follow up with a SD and boom combo. even if the enemy hits you out of paralysis they will still get hit by BVeg
