Planned for this summer, alongside the digital release. I believe it's the first time they mention that release date too.

Oh shit, and with Sega themselves, that's pretty freaking neat!

But why not Sonic Mania Sega? :(

Edit: But, is Monster Boy actually a Wonder Boy game, or just a successor/clone, ala Yooka-Laylee and Mighty No. 9?

Nice! Will get, that box is great

Edit: PAL release too, I hope? Could always import if I really wanted to. Also wtf is up with typing on Mobile-ERA? Auto correct doesn't work properly at all.

Hyped for this - missed opportunity to call it Monster Boy in Wonder World :)

Really hope it feels of the same quality the Wonder Boy 3 remake did by Lizardcube, that was aces

Awesome. Hopefully the physical version includes an instruction book (plus possibly other physical goodies) and not just the game cartridge like Dragon's Trap is getting.as shown below:

Beautiful!
In a perfect world, we'd always have the option to go either digital or physical, no matter what game.

So I get it physical versions of Switch games are generally selling extremely well.
Ironic, considering they cost more than PS4 releases for the most part.

Sega publishing this before any word on a physical release of Sonic Mania is making me laugh pretty hard right now.

Day one. Game looks fantastic.

Actual Wonder Boy game. The Wonder Boy IP and the Wonder Boy name are held separately, so this licenses the former (held by LAT) but not the latter (held by Sega). So they have access to all the characters, lore, and world, just not the title.

Although with Sega publishing, I'm really at a loss why they wouldn't change the name to Wonder Boy. I'm guessing because Sega is just handling the physical release, and only in the US, but if they're working together how hard could it be to hammer out a license?

The PS4 version looks slightly better, with all that space around the characters. The Switch version looks a bit cramped.

Nice to see a indie release with physical and digital available at the same time. Sega should think about european gamers though.

That's awesome! Was already going to buy Monster Boy but physical version just sweetens the deal and hopefully the distribution by Sega will help sales and encourage more old school Sega throwbacks like this. 2017/18 has been a great year for Wonder Boy fans.

This is the cover they were using last year. I think it looks better, but I don't think the new one is bad either. The character art is fine. It's just some new art they had, that they put together. Looks like the background is the same as in the old cover. Probably not final.

Yeah I'll buy it as a Wonder Boy tragic, but yeaaaah.

I mean the game itself has improved to look a lot better, still not in the league of Dragon's Trap though.
Monster Boy is supposed to be multiple times the size of the dragon trap remake. Would take another half decade to release this game with an art style as detailed as that one.

Hi Everyone! Let's talk about the graphics again when you played the final game. I think you'll be surprised :) The new artwork goes in line with the new character design which is more Japanese. Dragon's Trap remake went for a western style.

I've been following this project since it was first announced. I'm really impressed with how much you've improved the graphics (I would still have bought it even back when people thought it looked like "a cheap mobile game"). I just love how colourful it is, in true 90's fashion. That's my biggest gripe with the Dragon's Trap remake. It looks beautifully drawn, but the colours are more subdued.

Do you think it's still possible to find another publisher for a physical European (and/or Asian) release? What strikes me as odd is that this is a game based on a Japanese IP, developed by Frenchmen and exclusively distributed as a physical copy in North American by a German publisher.

We're not getting any Xbox One port at all? Or only digital? I bought the last game day one :(

Different developer.

We went for a different style because we've been imagining how a true HD successor could look like with Japanese design in mind and a world that's more dynamic and alive than the classic games. The Dragon's Trap remake art style doesn't work for our game because Monster Boy has a more complex map setup. Instead of mostly running planes we broke with various conventions of the classic games for a more dynamic, responsive and very direct action platformer. Don't believe me though, play it when it's out. You'll see :)
