The highest ranking you get, the rarer some items are. Assault rifles are harder to find, 8x optics, silencers, and so on. Me and my duo partner are not even that high (top 50k) and we're stuck with table scraps. When we switched to 2-man squad or play with other people in squad mode, suddenly we can find assault rifles easily, tons of ammo, tons of upgrades, healing items, etc.

They do this to balance out the game, this way, the super skilled players don't get easy access to the most powerful weapons and don't wipe out the entire service by themselves.

I get why they use this system, but it's frustrating.

Yeah, that's weird, how do they control this? It must only put players of similar rank in the same maps? I assumed the loot was randomly determined at the start of the match. Is is actually spawned in once you open a door?

Well in the PC version, the loot has already spawned, but in the xbox version, you can see how it works: if you land and enter a place, sometimes nothing will be there (no furniture, no items). The furniture appears first, then if you keep looking at one direction where something is supposed to spawn, nothing will appear. If you turn around then come back to where you were looking, the items will be there.

So yeah, it seems like it's dynamic to you

I always assumed the matchmaking just placed you with players with similar win ratings. I'd think loot is generated before we even take off on the plane.

The loot show up late because the Xbox version struggles to stream in assets. It's patently absurd to suggest that it's streaming in garbage loot near you late and good loot to lolbad players late as a means of balancing the game.

The loot doesn't scale. I'm in the top 1000 duo, and consistently get decent weapons and a shitload of scopes. It's bad luck rather than bad scaling.

Is that actually true? I've never seen anything about loot scaling. Loot should be randomly generated when the map loads. I don't believe the loot generates for each house depending on who enters it.

I thought it sounded a little far fetched, how would you control for "good" and "bad" players in the same match.

I had a match last night where I was tripping over scopes and sights, then another where we couldn't find a decent gun or scope in the entirety of our limited lives.

It is just the hands of fate screwing you over as much as it hands down trinkets.

I just figured it was based on the match as a whole and not individual players, which I guess would make more sense.

Yeah that's not true, how does the ranking system work, sitting at 8k solo EU with one one dinner, and duo at about same rank with no dinners.

Loot is definitely not ELO based. That would be incredibly frustrating.

I'm not exactly sure. But first, there are the three rankings, overall, win, and kill. Presumably both win and kill contribute to the overall ranking. Win seems to be based on how well you finish in a lobby from 1 to 100, kill seems to be based on kills and damage vs your deaths. And they all have skill based adjustments based on your rating, who is in the lobby, or who you kill and maybe who kills you. It feels like the overall rating is weighted more towards wins than kills. It's easier to get a feel how it works on the PC as there are websites that will track your progress.

I should also note that your rating starts pretty bottom of the barrel. So even bad finishes move you up. I couldn't get my first solo chicken dinner on PC until after a season reset, because even though I kept getting better, and if you put me back in some of those earlier games I had where I blew it at the end, I could now win... it didn't really matter since I was getting matched with better and better people. So my rating would keep going up, I would keep feeling like my gameplay was improving, but my results still kept getting worse and worse until the reset.

Here, duh.
There's no way anything is based on rank. I'm incredibly low, and while I consistently break the top 20, I've never won a match, and I lose most gunfights I get into. I still frequently drop into areas where all I find are a fucking handgun, a smoke grenade, and a stabilizer for a fucking Uzi. Like, consistently.

If I get anywhere in this game, it's because I'm hiding and picking off fight survivors.

Xbox players,

We are releasing a minor update this week, focused on fixing bugs or gameplay issues that were identified following the last patch release. Thanks to all of the community for the feedback and continued support of PUBG on Xbox One!

This patch will be live at 6PM KST / 1AM PST / 9AM UTC today.
Please restart your Xbox after the patch goes live to get the update.

Gameplay

  • We received a lot of great feedback following the changes made to vehicle/player damage. We continue to tune and balance this element of gameplay, and are therefore reverting back to increased damage if a player is struck by a vehicle.

Bug fixes

  • Resolved an issue preventing players from vaulting over specific ledges and/or windows
  • The camera will now remain in the correct location following player death
  • Vehicles will no longer relocate to another position on the map after the player disembarks

I'll say one thing for the last update (not today's one), it certainly made cars a rarer site in the final few circle and that's always a good thing in my eyes. But yeah, they still need a lot of tweaking. Both damage to enemies and the damage you receive from ever so slightly nudging a tree or whatever.

It's weird how loot works on this game. Last night all I was coming across, constantly, was the SKS and Level 2 bags and helmets. Almost every single game last night I would have those 3 items after the first two or three buildings searched. What's even weirder is I had never come across an SKS before last night.

Why are tweaks a 3.5 gig patch lol

Not played for a while and come back and I seem to be tearing it up now. Finished 12th with 6 kills followed by 6th with 6 kills.

A personal complaint of mine is the red circle. If i had a choice I'd remove it completely as i feel it adds nothing to the game. I had a game this morning where i was forced to camp in a building for nearly the entire game as the red was on me 5 times in a row!

Nice patch.. the vehicle damage to players was ridiculous.

Hopefully the other fixes don't break anything either.

Overall though the game has been pretty solid for me. Had 1 crash yesterday, but that's the first one in a while. Seems to now be much more of a rarity, especially compared to how it used to be.

Loot is also most absolutely not determined by your rank. I'm something like 600 in FPP Duos and I landed at a 3 story building and it had (in descending order) Level 3 helmet, Level 2 Vest, AKM, Scar w/ 90 rounds, 8x scope, Holographic, M-16 w/ 90 rounds, First Aid Kit, It was like fucking Christmas! I've had plenty of games where all I find is pistols and shotguns, but I am sure everyone has had those runs too. Gotta take the good with the bad.

I think I've settled in on duos being my pick. Squads can be a lot of fun, but I have a hard time fielding 3 other decent people. Someone usually invites their annoying-ass friend or something. Duo seems to retain a lot of the suspense of solo while also giving you someone to talk to.

Edit: Just realized this got moved to hangouts.. I guess that makes sense.. but kind of sucks for a game that's still being worked on and getting regular updates.

That is the rule for OTs. Not even my own OTs get special treatment :(

I moved it myself :P

What is the rule (for current and future edification)? Is it purely time based? Or based on (Time + Activity) / Platforms x Interest? Or some other metric?

I assume the New News = New Thread still applies. What would something like a new patch be considered? I personally don't really think it's thread-worthy.. but maybe the patch that introduces Xbox to Miramar would be?

On PUBG.. are there a ton more players in TPP than FPP? Seems like the rankings go up a lot higher for TPP. Maybe because its default? Or since it was the only style available for a bit?

Game is mess still. 6 crashes in 2 days this week.

Just had a kid with his back to me. I put a full clip of a scar in his back, he turns and 2 shotted me with a m16.

Get the fuck out of here with this shit. Game is nearly 2 months old and it hasn't gotten better in any significant ways.

I'm pretty late to this game, but quite enjoying it to my surprise!

I saw that there is indeed another map for the PC version, and it's heading to the Xbox at some point - any word on when that is happening?

Also, why are the bug patches so damn big

Did you record a video of it? Would be interesting to see what happened. Shooting is MUCH more on point for me lately, though I don't think it was ever as bad as you've described.

I think "Spring" was bandied about.. but I don't think there is a date yet. They're working to get it on par with the PC version, but I am not sure the time frame. Will be fun though when it comes out for sure.

I imagine the patches are big due to the way they coded it? Probably replacing a ton of stuff at the same time. Seems like its almost the whole game, or the majority of it each time.

I'm only really going off my own experience, but my group of friends tried making the move to FPP, but none of them really liked it. From their point of view it takes away from the game. Less vision, harder to drive vehicles, etc.

I still play FPP on PC though and prefer it there. I might go back to it on Xbox when I'm not playing with my buddies.

That makes sense, I'm pretty much 100% FPP now if I can help it. Some of my friends still like TPP, and I agree it is way easier to drive.. but I really like the immersive aspect of FPP. The new control scheme B or whatever also helps a ton.

Oh man. 2 squad Chicken Dinners tonight with our first match resulting in a dinner. All 4 of us lasted for both of them, which is rare. We usually lose at least 1 person.

Still can't get a good feel for the controls, which is one of the main reasons I haven't been playing this game really, even though I bought it the day it released into the preview program. I've messed with all different sorts of sensitivities, dead zone, and aim acceleration set-ups and nothing ends up feeling right.

I don't think the lack of aim assist is an issue as I've played a ton of Rainbow Six: Siege on console, and feel comfortable with the controls on that game.

I know people have mentioned that there's a good deal of input lag currently, so perhaps that is part of the issue, though it was supposedly improved in a recent update wasn't it?

OTs are a month, then they get moved to Hangouts. If it's something like a major update or whatever, you can definitely to make a new thread with info on that patch. Gaming OTs are moved tho after a month.

Played a couple solo FPP games last night after not playing FPP for a lil while on xbox. I think I'm going to stick with first person when I'm not doing squad with friends. The game was way more enjoyable and I really felt the survival aspect of the game. So much more immersive.

Both games I ended in the top 10, but got murdered by someone hiding with an m249 both times lol.

I feel that sometimes my aim is pretty consistent, but then in other games, I have no chance of hitting anyone that's moving. Comparing the accuracy of PC players to Xbox is crazy. The skill in PC is getting headshots where as it feels like hitting players on Xbox is the best you can hope for.

We have also had a number of duo matches where the sound has glitched (not hearing footsteps or shots) making a lot of fights difficult to coordinate.

Still love playing and seem to be getting steadily better.

Indeed. Like I said, I can't quite put my finger on what the issue is. As I said, I don't think it's the lack of aim assist, as I'm so used to that in Siege, but I just can't find settings that feel right to me.

I think that's the biggest thing that's kept me from putting more time into the game, along with just the sheer amount of randomness that is present in the game. Maybe it's just not the game for me. I want to like it, but I don't know if I will. I've gotten a couple of wins, and had a few good rounds, but most of the time I feel like I'm fighting with the controls and randomness of the game more than my enemies.

I would guess the random nature of loot/etc could be a "love it" or "hate it" kind of thing. I personally love it, even though I've had a bunch of rounds where I only found a pistol before someone off'd me.

That being said, it makes finding that assault rifle actually feel really good.

It took a while for me to get the controls where I felt like they worked for me. I don't even remember the settings now. I half wonder if it was me just sticking with a setting and getting used to it, rather than the other way around.

At first glance I thought the shots were head, chest then arm and I would have said you were robbed. However, after watching it a few more times and zooming in, it looks like neck (or chest), chest then arm. Which would not have killed them, but left them with a sliver of health. All other shots would have ended them, but they missed. So close man.

I need to get better at my angry follow-ups, but I feel like I had one stolen here. Thoughts?

I guess this is my problem with the aiming. You are obviously a decent player, but you couldn't kill a static person 15 meters away. There's no way you should miss this, especially as you did everything right.

There's definitely some network issues at play. I thought the very first pull should've hit, but it doesn't, then the three subsequent shots landed. If I would've had it on burst, he'd probably be dead. My bad on those follow-ups.

For those of you who play the PC version, does the Desert map have different performance characteristics than the original map? I wonder if we should expect it to perform better or worse on Xbox.

Additionally, the Desert map is getting some significant changes on PC due to player feedback. They'd probably want to incorporate those changes into the Xbox version too.

I don't have any direct quote on this, but I believe JackFrags mentioned that the map was built with performance in mind and that he saw a huge jump compared to one we have on Xbox. It'd be interesting to see if that carries over.
