Because it is a beautiful semi-interactive film.

I never bothered to finish it, I got up to the boat section and got bored of the stupid traversal system and the dull story.

Just so people don't say I didn't play the game or something, I got to Chapter 21 and I had to stop playing, because of how frustrated I was getting. My big complaints are:

  • It probably has some of the worst pacing I have ever experienced in a game. It is all over the fucking place. I just struggled through the latter half of the game.
  • The climbing sections are so mind-numbingly dumb and boring it kills me inside. And they throw so many of these stupid sections at you too, so it's not like it is far and few between.
  • Kind of ties back into the first point, but the game is overly long.
  • Them stupid sections where you need to find a box or something like that so you can climb somewhere pointless. It's literally just padding, and if they are hiding a loading screen, THEN GIVE ME THE LOADING SCREEN INSTEAD. It's tedious as fuck and a waste of my time.
There's more but these are my main annoyances.

Ok, what's the "pacing issues" about? The fact that the game has quiet exploration moments? Because it has chapters that don't play like other chapters? Frenetic action from start to finish is not good pacing. You need these quiet moments to establish characters and location. Plus it makes the high adrenaline sequences more effective.

Yeah I enjoyed the quieter moments, others have issues with it, they really kick up the ante when the set pieces and shoot outs start.

Agreed. All of this basically. (You would've loved Chapter 22 lol)

Visuals and voice acting is brilliant. Top notch production values. But when people call it a 'bad' game, its probably due to the reasons listed above. Doesn't matter how polished your game is. It was just a boring game for many.

Pacing and the tedious non risk dumbass climbing.
Game looks insane but it can't save the game from being a bit boring.

I just played Lost Legacy and it reminded me how boring the combat quickly becomes. Not that the exploration is very interesting either. The game series just completely relies on the audiovisual spectacle so criticism towards the game play elements is more than warranted.

I haven't played it yet, but I've never heard anybody say it's bad. Sure, if you don't like cinematic puzzle/exploration games with TPS sections and set pieces, you might not like it. The original Uncharted didn't really win me because I didn't like the combat or the "hurrdurr we have penis and like bagina" dialogue in the early game. I may have issues with it, but it's still a great game.

Yes! As I was playing all I could think was "Somebody at Naughty Dog really wants to make a movie..."

I feel like I'd enjoy the Uncharted's characters, story and style more if it were a big-budget TV series.

I was kinda lukewarm on it. (As I am on the series as a whole.) But I thought it was easily the best UC game to date.

Personally is it my less favourite Uncharted ever. The pacing is so terrible that I have big trouble to finish it. Just the story push me toward the end. And I have had big fun even with the third chapter. Just sayin. The disappointment is so big which I haven't yet bought the Cloe episode.

In no way am I speaking bad on the other uncharted games. But the pacing in U4 is what puts it above and beyond. And it felt right as it was the end of Nathan Drake's story.

ND captured the feeling I wanted of closure. This is what I loved about Sam. He felt like the reflection of the Drake we played from 1 to 3. Always jeopardizing his life in search for different treasures, or the big one. Sabotaging any potential happiness because he doesn't believe he can function outside of the life he only knew. A pirates life.

I was satisfied with the gameplay that got me from point A to point B. I wasn't looking or wanted anything groundbreaking as far as gameplay mechanics goes.

What they updated (gunplay) felt damn good. I loved the little animated movement when you climb over your AI partner. The introduction of swinging was fun enough, even though it's funny how they're making it seem like a big deal just because it can be now done in game lol. The fighting mechanics where smooth like butter. I love when ND does CQC. I want a whole game dedicated to it.

I loved the climbing, it's the main reason i play these games.
Though even if you love the climbing the game has serious pacing issues, the flashback stuff was so goddamn boring that it makes me want to not touch the game ever again for example.

The game is just too damn long. The Uncharted series is a great combination of film and games. It has the production value of a film with some standard gameplay mechanics to make you feel a part of the story. The problem is, this story is about 6 hours longer than it needs to be. Also the story-line isn't that interesting, partly a side effect of tyring to pad the lengthy middle section.

It had the best combat mechanics in the series, yet rarely put them to use, or just encouraged you to use stealth most of the time. The pacing was pretty bad, especially once you reached Libertalia. They really shouldn't have listened to the "too much combat" and ludonarrative dissonance complaints, it made the game less fun. And the soundtrack was probably the most disappointing aspect for me. The PS3 trilogy had such interesting, memorable and exotic sounding music, but U4's feels like generic action movie music, too focused on ambience and percussion, with few interesting melodies or creative ideas.

The Madagascar section was pure gold, though.

I rank the Uncharted games like this:
2 > TLL > 3 > 4 > 1 > GA

I would not say it's a bad game but I do remember getting quite tired from so much moment of walking and flashback and wanting more of the spectacular shootings that it has

It wasn't bad but I just finished Lost Legacy which kind of confirmed by lukewarm feelings on 4. I think the pacing was the main issue with 4, it just drags on too much in parts. Lost Legacy on the other hand is much better paced, it flows nicely with far less of those moments where you just walk around looking at items. I think the writing in LL was better too, the banter is on point in this game but it's still grounded in genuine personal stories, I think they struck a better balance than in 4.

Some people don't like the change in direction, some people don't like the pacing, some people don't like the way some of the puzzles/climbing was, some people don't like the grappling hook hiding loading screens, etc.

I understand all the complaints. I think 4 had the best writing in the series. That did it for me. :)

Really? I found it pretty terrible and worst of the third chapter. It's just to push a button repeatedly and nothing more :/ At least in the third we have more options.

Yes really my guy.

I love shooting computer guns as much as the next gaming nerd, But ND's combat mechanics are super fun, won't say perfect though because nothing ever is. But I enjoy how it feels when I'm gripping the controller and pushing buttons.

Of course it can get repetitive, just like with any game. It all comes down to how well something clicks with individual players. I understand what you're saying, But my experience was not the same.

Not sure, but everybody is entitled to their opinion. Anyway, I thought the game was great from beginning to end.

My fav Uncharted and the perfect conclusion to Nate's story.

I think there are two major factors.

One, the game has a fundamentally different design attitude from Uncharted 2, so if you're a fan of Uncharted at its most popular peak, they don't have many things in common beyond core mechanics. 4 is alternate reality 2, with the freedom of 1 emphasised over the narrow scripted spectacle popularised by 2.

The other factor is Uncharted's mechanics were always a little wonky. It wasn't a big deal in ultra controlled environments that you were carefully funnelled through, but in the open with them alone as a driving force, it was a rude awakening to a lot of people. I wouldn't have been able to play the first three if I didn't already reconcile the pretty clunky Sands of Time lite platforming, so for me, being more open didn't make it a bigger issue than it had been. For others I think it highlighted just how simplistic a lot of the movement is.

I think Uncharted 4 is the best game in the series. I was never really a fan of the hyper authored, scripted 2 and the design trend it inspired. But acknowledging that difference to me personally, I can totally see the flip side and understand why someone would vehemently dismiss it on the same basis.

The first few chapters I really loved, then I went through the middle which I really started hating the game. Pushed through and liked the ending. It's not a bad game, but it's not good either. Just meh. Uncharted 2 is the pinnacle of the series.

U4 is pretty much the best TPS out there bar none. No other TPS offers the same degree of freedom of movement whilst also offering many, many ways of approaching and dispatching foes (be it stealth, melee, environment, shooting). It's a far cry from games that are simply content in offering pop-a-mole-y gameplay.

they were alright but they made some of the same mistakes the climbing sections made. they made you pull up that truck like 3 times for example. once would've been enough. the game is very repeptitive and doesn't do a good job at mixing it up. you do the same things so many times without any new twists to it.

You can literally use these arguments for every game out there. Let's just say the game isn't for you. Seems you're looking for an open world lineair action adventure mixed with FIFA and PGA Golf gameplay, first and third person combat and 2D platforming with additional RPG elements where you do something different every 5 minutes.

This, and how easy it is. I played through and completed it first on Crushing and it was a walk in the park, it's incredibly simple to stay in one spot and take out everybody at range first time.

It sounds like so much fun to play that way. It's almost like you are forcing yourself to hate these kind of games. Gaming should be hobby you know, not work. Especially games like Uncharted.

The pacing is horrible, the story takes far too much screentime considering how forgettable it is, as does the climbing considering how braindead easy it is. The shootout encounters themselves are.. ok, but beyond the improved combat itself, the encounters are pretty boring and only improve towards the very end. Very few setpieces, (and by far the best one was spoiled over and over in trailers so i didn't really care while I played trough it) and overall the game has this weird tone like its embarrassed to be an Uncharted game. Almost zero replay value due to the pacing, and I like it less and less as time goes on.

Sold the game after getting bored of the multiplayer, and didn't buy the DLC, which after UC1-3 + TLOU I never thought I'd say of a ND game, and certainly not of UC4 pre launch. I also will not preorder TLOU2, because if it makes the same mistakes I'll be very disappointed. And no, TLOU and UC4 absolutely are not paced similarly.

Except I really like the game, and the previous ones.

I've played them all on Crushing, UC4 is just too easy. I'd have preferred it if the AI pushed me into doing some of the stuff I could have done, but it was pointless when I could just stay and shoot them and play with the environment after.

I play a game to be challenged as much as anything, you've got no right to tell me that I'm playing it wrong.

Just saying Uncharted is meant to be a fun relaxed game. I first of all think the crushing difficuly is unrealistically hard and if you play it the way you do, it's doesn't seem fun at all. It's a game about enjoying views and vistas, some smooth action en fun platforming/exploring. You see how they play the E3 demos. Just running around, action paced, taking out enemies with guns and melee. That is impossible to do on crushing.

There is a difference between a fair challenge (Soulsborne type of games) and stupid unfair gamemodes like Uncharted crushing or CoD veteran that take pretty much all fun away because.

Really, play however you like, but I get it why you don't like the game. I wouldn't like it either if I played your way.

I could orobably get analytical abiut WHAT it was, but the gist of it is that i liked UC2 and 3 a lot, both narrative and gameplay. They had faults and sometimes i felt they got overrated compared to games with more player agency, but suffice it to say they were very well made and impressive technical feats. Uncharted 4 just bored me to death. That is the long and short of it. The narrative did some tricks with the backstory that you uncover whilist following the personal story of Drake which was neat and more clever than usual, but the rest, including the personal story was... Man, idk, i was never fully invested in it and at times it felt inauthentic to me.

It felt like an Uncharted game that had gotten old like an old man. It was long in the tooth, the pacing was methodical and more like some kind of examination like the kind you read in a 500-page novel, and I'm looking for a quippy, sensational and universal-themed action romp about casual people doing hero business in increasingly fantastical environments as they discover treasure and myth, but at the core it's still just about casual type people doing their self-driven adventure.

It has it, it just feels too #grounded like the thing that made TLOU great but it doesn't reapply here.

Hyperbole. It has some huge pacing issues as everyone talks about to death, but it's by no stretch of the imagination a bad game. It's a good game, like the other Uncharted games, but since opinions on games have become a love-hate binary now, people feel the need to call it bad because they have issues with the game.

It's a great game, but it suffers from a lot of downtime and not sufficiently fleshing out any of the activities during downtime.

Puzzles - few and far between and almost insultingly simple most of the time. Climbing - they tried to spice it up with the rope and sliding, but it's still so automated that the player has hardly any agency or room for failure. Exploration - the areas are mostly linear and besides a couple of cool interactions, there are no proper rewards for it.

It's not a bad game but it's not GOTY material either. Too much talking, auto climbing, and brain dead puzzles. The combat is fun, but not amazing.

Personally I hated all the retconning and I hate how fatalistic it made the series.

It stripped agency from Drake in all three previous games when it explicitly stated his mom and brother, who were also skilled antiquarians, set up Nate's previous adventures.

I don't think the Uncharted series in general are near "bad games", but I dislike them and this is exactly my gripe with all of them, especially the spectacle over substance part.

I actually laughed out loud at that response. Concise and sharp, well done.

What are you talking about
Tlous is nothing like Uncharted
If anything tlous has more limitations then Uncharted

It builds on top of the Uncharted combat system. And limitations are good! In TloU you need to think about resource management and stealth is much more satisfying.

The combat in Uncharted games never really clicked for me. Uncharted 4 solved that problem by adding more non-combat sections, better stealth and better puzzles. All of that without losing the amazing action setpieces that are a series staple (the jeep chase is mind-blowing). I liked the script and performance better than in previous entries and I dunno, I just had a better experience overall. After I finished the game I knew I would go back to it sometime in the future. No other Uncharted game has done that for me.
