Does anyone know if the Infamous 2 servers for user generated content are still active?

There are, in fact, legitimate reasons why a lot of games with PS3/Vita crossplay are getting shut down more and more recently. Can't say much more than that but it'll be more clear later this year.

So I assume one of those, most likely PS3, services are being shut down? Or does this not include the store?

Isn't it common for old games to get servers shut down what's the issue

Didn't even think this was that popular a game or have lots of online functionality to begin with

You can still play launch era 360 games online that have literally had zero people playing them for the last decade.

I generally expect if you are charging a subscription, you're gonna keep matchmaking and servers up, because that's what you're being paid to do.

Hopefully it ends up being good news. Seems to be a lot of rumblings about Sony doing a lot of backend work lately.

Well this is a bummer. I'm guessing things have to die for PSN to be slightly better, but, stuff like Demon's Souls and Killzone shouldn't be the ones.

I'm just guessing, but I wouldn't be surprised if we were just left with the store and trophies a few years from now. Perhaps even just the webstore, and download list.

They better keep the download list forever, after all the digital content I purchased on PS3 and Vita. Otherwise I want my money back on all those purchases, if they take away access.

No idea what Counterspy is, but it's crazy that they're also shutting down Gran Turismo 6 and the still rather new Gravity Rush 2's servers this year as well. Surprised Sony isn't running on something like MS Azure, AWS, or ILand servers where they can spin up servers or throw resources at any game due to demand.

What ever happened to that Spy Party game where one player had to act like they were part of a crowd while another player manned a sniper looking for them? Totally thought this was this game and I completely missed it.

I really enjoyed counterspy, but the online portion was almost zero.
I found it more annoying in smart as (vita)
Is a noon issue in this case, but there should be some kind of'plan' regarding games that have online features because it is also normal that servers won't be online forever.
For competitive games they should allow manual direct connections once matchmaking servers go offline. Or allow, like warhawk, creating servers for certain communities.
Also a minimum guaranteed period, day 8 years, since release.
This will be a bigger issue when some platforms die, ps3, 3ds, vita...
How to access to the online purchases

The competitive aspect of Counterspy, and coming across your friends' corpses, was one of its coolest aspects. This is unfortunate.

Also, what's wrong with scaling this stuff, Sony? Crank it up when it's got players using it, spin it down otherwise.

Slightly relevant question, does anyone know what happened to the devs of this game? They don't seem to have made anything since then and they haven't posted on their twitter since 2016. Maybe I'm jumping the gun here, but they close down abruptly or are they just in stealth mode?

Counterspy is a cool little game that I finished when it came out and will probably never play again. That being said it still irks me when they take down servers for old games, it just makes me wonder what I'm actually paying for each year with PS+.

Btw Knack's Quest app wil be shutting down soon too but I couldn't use it. Whenever I try to log in into PSN the game crashes in the iOS version. Android version can not be installed on any of my Android devices. How to play this game before it closes in preparation for Knack this month?

The game was awesome, it's a shame we never got a sequel. It just needed more content, not any revolution.

I believe all this game uses online for is Leaderboards. It's not MP or online based at all.
Pretty much. The one trophy is related to beating another player's target score (and then finding their corpse in the following level). I don't tend to actively seek out online content, and I've got that trophy just through normal play.

I personally think the PS3's offerings even on early IGC were better.

Really, though? When I started, there was many good games, but that was 2013. When it started, there was a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog/Golden Axe stuff, and PS1 games, and while I'm not opposed to playing Genesis/PS1 games, I feel like getting them for a then-$50 fee wasn't that great considering how much cheaper it was to buy them compared to a full-priced PS3 game.

Probably cutting off PS3/Vita online support? Hopefully it means a rehaul for PSN name change and more resources to PS4 plus, though i'm guess the former is more likely than the latter.

I really hope they won't shut down LBP games servers when Dreams comes out.

This has been my big concern for a while, I have to admit; every so often I dip into the old LBPCentral Community Spotlights to pick out a few good levels, I like having them perpetually available.

I don't think Dreams is relevant to the fear; I'm not sure anyone sees Dreams as replacing LBP in that context, but LBP1 is ancient, now, and the handheld levels don't work with the console titles.

Sony/MM/Sumo/Guerilla/Tarsier: The franchise may be dead now, but I would absolutely buy into a single unified location to play LBP levels.

I completed the game and I don't remember there being an online component.

I do remember it not being very good though. I assume it was a PS+ game at some point, hence why I played it.

Never knew the game had online features, thought it was just leaderboards.

Counterspy was a decent game none the less, but i'll try and nab that online trophy before shut-off.

This is a cool game that unfortunately no one really played.

I'm happy to be one of the ones who did!

Since the online features are pretty negligible, I recommend people pick it up on the cheap. The one negative that I did think was jarring is by the end, the stealth aspects go away. But most of the game has enjoyable stealth.

Regardless the minimal online features it may had, you shouldn't shutdown the online if you are paying an online subscription to the platform holder. That's my 2 cents.

I should also take the time to mention that Sony will also be shutting down the servers for the online multiplayer portions of the HD ports of the PS2 Ratchet and Clank games on the 15th of this month. Only heard of this last night, so it's new to me...plus I wasn't sure it was new thread worthy.

"Something's up"

Why are gaming forum users always conspiracy theorists? Nothing is up. They just don't want to waste money on useless servers. It's just business sense.
Because I don't remember it being this frequent. Gran Turismo 6 is going down soon, too. And Ratchet & Clank as the person above me points out. This isn't the normal "2K sports shutting down NBA game 9 months after launch" crap. This is a big change from Sony.

Sony keeps shutting down mp servers for game after game. Even Gravity Rush 2 which is only a year old gets it servers shut down. And yet people gladly keep paying for ps plus. What are they actually paying for I wonder?

Is it not simply to accommodate the upcoming PS5? Maybe they can't handle all three systems at the same time logistically so are massively reducing the PS3 side as the oldest system?

Well it's obvious they are doing it for a reason. Is too many too fast. Plus ppl aren't paying ps plus to keep insignificant leaderboards open when it prob gets a couple of hits a day.
As for gt6 and ratchet and the like no one was paying plus to play them anyway

There are a lot of Xbox 360 games whose servers have shut down.

Chromehounds: https://kotaku.com/5337854/sega-putting-chromehounds-servers-to-sleep
Many, many EA games: https://www.ea.com/service-updates/pre-2013

Those shutdowns were always bullshit, but Chromehounds and EA games ran on Sega/EA/2K servers because they wanted control over them. The vast majority of games that use actual Live still work.

Higher bonuses for Sony's top executives, of course.

If they are gonna scaleback on keeping servers running and charge $60 a year for online, then they need to fix their poorly run PS Store.

I started the game and got the only online trophy within the first 20 minutes.

Game seems pretty neat.
