Mitchell also claims that he has broken 1m points three times in public but no one has been able to verify those scores.

Mitchel has reached 940k points in a publicly verified event so he's not a complete fraud, but this is a very bad look to lie about what he was playing Donkey Kong on as that was taken super seriously in the past. And if these scores were spliced together, that's even worse.

After all that Todd Rogers and Twin Galaxies stuff I'm sure we'll see more suspect high scores come to light.

Man, so many speedrunners and record holders getting exposed recently. Kind of nuts.

The whole scene was amazing in that king of the kong docu, that referee, the little slimy sidekick. I almost pissed my pants.

Y'know I was on a panel full of people signing autographs at a Video Games Live show back in 2012 and Billy Mitchell was there too. He brought his own pictures to autograph of himself surrounded by what looked like Las Vegas showgirls and kept signing things like "First Perfect Pac-Man Game."

Ever since then I've always thought he was just a littttle too into himself.

On a related note I read the article on Todd Rogers and Dragster and it is fascinating. It's amazing how long the record was listed even though there was no supporting evidence of any worth

After watching Adam Sandler's Pixels (its not as bad as I was expecting) I think Peter Dinklage should play Billy Mitchell if they ever make a movie about him.

While those may be suspect, Billy Mitchell IS insanely good at Donkey Kong and his public record isn't that far off 1 million

I love dinklage as much as the next guy, but isn't one of Mitchell's most distinctive features his... Massive height?

If the Hobbit can make Gandalf look like he's towering over the hobbits then a King of Kong movie can make Peter Dinklage large and in charge. I'd also say his height isn't his most distinctive feature lol.

So why are emulator high scores not allowed?

A lot of these old school gamer records are based on playing the game on the original hardware so recreate it as it was back in the day. Emulators can sometimes run things a little differently than the original arcade cabinets and cause discrepancies, sometimes one's that can aid the player in some ways.

That's insane since for years everyone always talked like he was untouchable.

Not saying he's not skilled, but it's obvious emulation isn't hardware.

I wonder if he will release a statement.

I mean, I stated that in the OP, lol. It's insane to get a world record in 1984, hold it for decades, and then come back and regain the world record in 2004. But Mitchell falsely claiming these >1m scores were done on real hardware is super bad form.
