I want to say about Mario Party 11 for Switch I really want them to go back to what it used to be with boards where we move separately with boos, koopa bank, items and shortcuts. I want to see a cutscene at the beginning of the game. That just shows me more love was put into the game.

I'd also like to see online, finally. Plus this could be a big deal for the paid online. Finally, if they want they could do DLC boards and characters for the future.

I think I've asked before but not sure if anyone knows...but does any one know what happened to Keizo Ota?

This guy was an absolute genius. He programmed the water and water dynamics for WaveRace 64, was Chief Programmer of F-Zero X and got 60fps/30 racers in that game.

After that he went on to work on Wii Sports. But I haven't heard from him after that? Anyone know if he's worked on any recent games?

Lots of ports it seems... which isn't a bad thing but it begs the question: what are Nintendo's devs doing? They can't all be working on ports. Heck if MP4 turns out to be developed by Bamco that makes it even more strange. What's the 2D Mario team doing? What's AC team doing? What's Next Level doing? What's retro doing? And within say Aonuma's zelda team who usually have more than one project going on simultaneously... what's going on there? I thought the flow of software would be greater now that there is only one system to focus on but it seems normal or even near Wii U levels, at least from what we know. If what Emily says is true and there's no big first party blowout in say a Direct or E3 then I'm really going to be scratching my head.

Most recent known one was Wii Sports Club, but keep in mind that some games, there aren't any credits like 1-2-Switch. He could also be working on system software like Takao Shimizu who was a group manager but, became the UI System Director on the NES Classic and the SNES Clssic

They should just port every single first party Wii-U title over the next 3-4 years. I'd love to trash the thing but if its the only gateway to playing Pikmin 3, Mario maker and the two Zelda HD ports then it remains alive.

So Nintendo said that they will keep supporting the 3DS... I wonder if those rumors about Link's Awakening remake and a new Wario platformer are true...

If this year is a bit more focused on ports, I think it is because the teams must be in the middle of development for new titles. The first batch was done in time for release in 2017, and the next year with heavy hitters could be 2019.

I think Nintendo is using that term very loosely for the 3DS. When they're saying support, they mean they'll still keep selling the console, as an alternative option, but don't expect too many new games from Nintendo for it in the future. They even said they going to focus more on it's existing library for 2018.

I mean, of course.

But it's still a little disappointing because some long development cycles (like with... Retro Studios) are disappointing.

Is there a list anywhere of third party titles that Nintendo either distributed or published and first party titles that weren't published by Nintendo, like Hyrule Warriors in Japan? In particular I'm trying to find a list of all the games that had a European Club Nintendo code included if such a list exists.

I don't even play Mario Party but I really want one on Switch so the Giant Bomb crew has to play it.

Interestingly if Nintendo plays its cards right Spaltoon-like DLC could be the norm for online games with the paid content and all.

It'd be a shame if he stopped game development. But WaveRace 64 & F-Zero X were 20 years ago now.

I'm all for ports.. but I'm kind of fed up with the NSMB series and a port of the latest (weakest) in the series would make me shake my head just a bit.

Just needed to say that :p

I've been thinking about the following games:
Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, Pokemon Switch and the yet to be announced but surely to come soonish Animal Crossing and Smash.

At least one of these has to come this year right? I almost cant see any of them being 2020 and I cant see them all being 2019 either.

Emily and that Evo guy said Smash is coming this year. So we can count on that. I've given up on Metroid Prime 4 being this year. I'm not sure about Bayo 3, but I don't think that will be this year. That leaves Pokemon and Animal Crossing for me. I feel deep down inside Animal Crossing has to be this year.

if nintendo is only releasing smash for their online service, i definitely won't be subscribing. they need one other big game and unless retro is making it, i dont see that happening.

With the assumed Smash there's going to be Smash, Arms, Splatoon 2, MK8DX, Pokken and I mean there's always going to be third party games with online...
I'm going to hold my judgment on the Service until more details are revealed. I think there's good reasons as to why it has been delayed almost a year to launch it. I'm expecting good support and features.

I hope they understand free online with basic ass features is ok, but paid online with those same basic ass features is unacceptable. using the system to voice chat, cloud saves, actual accounts instead of friend codes are bare minimum of what i expect on day 1, let alone a big game other than smash

You are expecting two big games from Nintendo on launch for Switch Online? That's lofty expectations to say the least.. but I do agree with the rest. Voice, Cloud Saves and proper accounts should definately be a part of it.

I think two big games is reasonable. but that's more to do with the idea of "a bunch of games you already played for free but now had to pay for" being a hard pill to swallow. better a new, shiny trojan horse to get those games in

and proper accounts are in. the friend codes are an evil for non-exclusive names

Ugh, a NSMBU port? Who asked for that? Why not make a new one? I thought the "New" series would be phased out after Mario Maker.

Smash along with Animal Crossing or Pokémon can be the two big games.

Cheaper, easier to do, more profit is most people's reasoning. It only sold 5 million copies so it's going to be a new game for many people. It's also plausible that the 2D Mario/Pikmin team need more time on their projects, so they're using it as a stopgap.

I think the fact that the online service was delayed until this fall is strong evidence that Nintendo does understand this. If the plan was to charge for a system like the one we have now with a few minor improvements, I think we'd already be paying. I mean, why leave a year's worth of revenue on the table in that case?

That's not to say that we're going to get everything we want/expect from an online service. We could very well get some weird, quirky thing that has some features we never would have thought to ask for and is missing others we think should be standard.

Yep they wanted it to come in Fall 2017 originally, with the phone app. They saw the backlash and realized they messed up or couldn't half ass it, and went back to the drawing boards. I'm sure they have a big list of all the things people have been wanting and are trying to check as many boxes as they can. 1 extra year is a lot of time to fix things

Nintendo delaying their paid online service should be taken as a good thing and shows Nintendo cares to get it right or they wouldn't have delayed it.

If what Emily says is true and there's no big first party blowout in say a Direct or E3 then I'm really going to be scratching my head.

Splatoon 1 released May 29 2015. Its success seemingly triggered a creative renaissance at Nintendo and specifically paved the way for work to begin on New IP.

Assuming most of this started June/July 2015, that would make June/July 2018 the 3 year aniversary. Given that it usually takes longer to develop new IP and that Nintendo was likely focused on fast tracking a few games in 2017 (Mario, Zelda, Splatoon 2 ect) It makes sense that we have only seen a few games from this process so far (ARMS and Labo)

We should get more information at E3 with the floodgates starting to open 2019. That also seems to be in line with what Emily has been hinting at.

Besides if you didn't own a WiiU the Switch's first half of 2018 is pretty stacked. A new Bayonetta, DK, Kirby, Mario, Zelda deluxe with new content (if you owned a 3ds) Dragon Quest, and Labo. Thats a great first half.

Do we have any idea who from Namco would actually be on the development team if this turns out to be the case? It doesn't seem like they've done many FPS's in recent years.

Well julien merceron aka the guy who made the Fox engine for Konomi now works at Namco. So he's likely heavily involved at least visually (Its still nuts that Fox Engine runs on PS3) Although I'd bet that MP4 is probably being developed on Unreal Engine if it is Namco

Emily said Animal Crossing and Metroid were looking like 1st half 2019 titles. I'm really curious what Nintendo's other expanded audience peripherals/games they will be introducing this year.

Idea 1: Vitality sensor/ Health gaming line:
I think the vitality sensor could work as alternative joycon attachments. Possibly do a health gaming line to attract adults, elderly and families. One game could have the vitality sensor packed in and focus on the player relaxing, focusing, meditating, and unwinding. Next they could do Switch Fit with the Balance board. After that they could do Switch Xtremesports where you can use the joycons along with the Balance board to play Waverace, Excitebike, Pilotwings, Skiing, and Jousting. I think all of those concepts have the ability to sell multimillions for Nintendo and reach a larger audience. If the vitality sensor did come out it could have some fun gaming applications too. For example, a game like Eternal Darkness with the vitality sensor could make for some great gameplay elements suited for survival horror especially Eternal Darkness with Sanity Meter.

Idea 2: Card based/AR gaming.
There are a couple different ways they can go about it. The 3DS experimented with the idea with the cards but the idea never grew outside of a small novelty. Perhaps there could be a pack of cards with a variety of game modes you can use them in. The gaming modes having local multiplayer and single player modes. Another game idea could be a party game involving the cards and the joycons ability to scan the cards. Then finally there is also room for more dedicated games such as if they made a sequel to Pokemon TCG RPG. You could play with the cards you purchase, each game comes with its own starter deck.

3rd idea: Build your own Amiibo
One idea I had was an action game where you control a Robot fighter. The hook is that you can build and design any kind of robot with parts provided and then scan the Amiibo uploading that robot which you can play as in the game. That was just one idea at the top of my head. Im sure you could do more.

Hopefully. It would be ideal if they looked at the initial response to their smartphone app and realized they have a long way to go. Either that or they are aligning it with some sort of big name release just in time for the holidays.

There's probably also a small amount of goodwill that will be gained from Mario Kart, ARMS, and Splatoon 2 players getting almost another year of free online play.

If Metroid is a first half 2019 game then that means it will be playable at E3 this year. This is a huge and important title for Nintendo. It should be treated like a Zelda and Mario. Especially, since this series sales hasn't done so well and it's making its return. They'll want to show it off and give it the big spotlight at E3.

We pretty much know 2 of the 3 big exclusives that Namco will announce in the spring/summer :

- Smash Deluxe, Spring Direct (it could be earlier tho).
- Metroid Prime 4, E3
- ?

Hmm? When was this said? (particularly the AC part)
->
Emily was speculating on Animal Crossing, she didnt actually know the status of that game

SuperBlank and others: you guys should really start reading more carefully and realize what is someone speculating (usually they use words like "my guess" or "I think" or "I'm speculating") and what is someone saying "I have a source confirming this is definitely the case and fact."
