My gosh. That poor head engineer.

It would be interesting to have Helmut Marko as advisor.

It looks cool but the Halo ruins it. Especially on that last pic.
Excited for Alonso winning scream again. Definitely will try to follow WEC this year

Looking good, can't wait to see it in real life :P

I wonder how heavy will it be, battery will be probably a bulky one to survive the whole race distance.

"We are very confident," Alonso said. "At McLaren, we've made huge changes for this year. The more obvious is the power unit with the Renault switch which I think has quite a high motivation now in the team. The mood for all of us is quite different this year compared to the last few years. We always had expectations that the season could be a good one for us. But I think this year we have more facts than any previous year. They were only hopes. This year we have more numbers that we can touch finally."

Honda. The Power of Hopes.

With all the retroactive shitting McLaren (and Alonso) do on Honda I hope their Renaults blow before the first pitstops in Australia.

As Nando would say, "karma."

Don't you think they have a reason to be critical of Honda, given the three years of abject failure by them?

The fact that McLaren Honda only scored more six more points in the three years they were together (132) than Jenson Button scored in his season with the customer Mercedes engine in 2014 (126) says it all.

It's the worst attempt at an F1 engine in the last 20 years.

No reason to trash talk AFTER you already left them for another engine. At that point you're just being vindictive.

Well perhaps there were major issues behind the scenes that we don't know about - such as the implication that Honda never gave McLaren information on their new engine vs what Renault does. I don't think that's vindictive - it shows that one partner in the partnership isnt living up to expectations.

The Fuji round of the World Endurance Championship could be moved to a different date to allow Fernando Alonso to participate in the race.

F1 Fanatic understands a change of date is being seriously considered to allow the Formula One champion to take part. The race is currently scheduled for October 17th, which clashes with the United States Grand Prix.

While it's a bit silly that just one driver could make them move an entire race weekend it would give Alonso the chance to become the first driver to win both WEC and Formula 1 in one season.

I honestly doubt Alonso isn't gonna have a performance drop. Especially when he has to compete in five events in five weeks come June, one of which being a 24h event.

I'm 34 and even considering not having a single free day and lots of travel for five weeks straight sounds absolutely terrible to me.

Alonso's upcoming schedule: (Excluding possible WEC event at Fuji that currently clashes with the US GP).

March 25 Australian GP Melbourne
April 8 Bahrain GP Sakhir
April 15 Chinese GP Shanghai
April 29 Azerbaijan GP Baku
May 5 6 Hours of Spa (WEC)Spa-Francorchamps
May 13 Spanish GP Barcelona
May 27 Monaco GP Monaco
June 10 Canadian GP Montreal
June 16-17 24 Hours of Le Mans (WEC)Le Mans
June 24 French GP Paul Ricard
July 1 Austrian GP Spielberg
July 8 British GP Silverstone
July 22 German GP Hockenheim
July 29 Hungarian GP Budapest
August 19 6 Hours of Silverstone (WEC)Silverstone
August 26 Belgian GP Spa-Francorchamps
September 2 Italian GP Monza
September 16 Singapore GP Singapore
September 30 Russian GP Sochi
October 7 Japanese GP Suzuka
October 21 United States GP Austin
October 28 Mexican GP Mexico City
November 11 Brazilian GP Interlagos
November 18 6 Hours of Shanghai (WEC)Shanghai
November 25 Abu Dhabi GP Yas Marina

I have no doubts that ALO can physically cope with the challenge, but that schedule looks mentally exhausting.

The strange thing is that he's not really going out of his way with flights to other continents doing this schedule. He's doing Spa after flying back from Baku and then going to Barcelona, he'll do one French race (Le Mans) before doing another a week later (Paul Ricard), he's doing Silverstone WEC being sandwiched between Hungary and Spa F1 races, and when he does Shanghai WEC he could basically be going from Brazil to Abu Dhabi the long way.

I have a feeling that travel wise this will be less of a deal than having to cram his Indy practices sessions between doing F1 duty this year. And it's not as if F1 drivers aren't training or doing sponsorship commitments in other countries during the season anyway (which they all do).

Never say never but it's highly unlikely. He's on the wrong team for that, too. Apparently, he's good enough to be used as a bargaining chip in driver negotiations, though. Imagine that we could have Hulk in the second Ferrari seat and not Kimi. What a shame.

Wasn't Hulk Mercedes first target to replace Rosberg? However Hulk had already had the Renault contract signed before Rosberg retired.

He went through 3 years of McLaren-Honda after 5 years of being regular runner-up to a young german (and his rookie nemesis Lewis) boy in a politics-riddled Ferrari team.
I think as long as his car doesn't break down all the time, his mind will be fine.

June is pretty crazy. He has GP's a week before and after Le Mans.

Dunno about that, you have heard his team radio over the last few years? He already sounded pretty broken and dejected at times.

That said, he should be fine, so long as he has this seat to rest on, along for his travels.

He's probably waiting to see how shit the McLaren is before bailing on the Monaco GP again.

He barely missed out on the Ferrari seat in 2014 and didn't get Kimi's open Lotus seat then because he had little sponsor money.

He's good, but the window may be shut with all the young drivers coming in. He'll never drive for a top team now.

Good, all for it.

Not looking forward to all the pissing and moaning by the alpha males on the internet.

That grid girl thing has to suck for the girls doing the work. Must have been nice to get that kind of work every year, plus I bet it helped get a few of them other jobs.
