Do cut scenes happening in story mode depend on who is in your immediate three person team?

Only the non-story scenes (story scenes seem to be set), such as One person speaking to their clone, you must have that person and they must be facing someone who has their clone in their party.

Same with several people talking to each other before a fight. Though you don't always get the scene from what I've seen.

But yes, who is in your party and who you're facing counts for those sub-event scenes you see before a fight.

I'm not too familiar with fighting games, but I'm trying to be an ok dbfz player.

Can someone explain this to me:
- Is there depth to meter gain? I seem to often be running out of meter and don't know if some attacks give more than others. Do both dealing and receiving end of damage gain the same amount?
- Is there really a point to huge combos?(other than looking cool) As I said, I find meter to be quite scarce and, to me, a 7 bar combo for diminishing returns seems wasteful.
- Is there a way to "find" cancels? Most of the combos I do, I know because someone else posted a video of it. How do people find them out? I've been doing the 2m,l,j,l,m for days and never realized I could jump a second time before launching. I have no idea how I should have known that.

You know, this is the most minor of gripes, but I kinda wish you could change which of your team member's intro plays at the start of the match. Seeing the one all the time is kinda lame

Can someone explain this to me:
- Is there depth to meter gain? I seem to often be running out of meter and don't know if some attacks give more than others. Do both dealing and receiving end of damage gain the same amount? Different amounts, you can build it by charging with L+S, and even by moving towards your opponent
- Is there really a point to huge combos?(other than looking cool) As I said, I find meter to be quite scarce and, to me, a 7 bar combo for diminishing returns seems wasteful. You don't want to be wasting 7 bars on a combo, unless of course you can get big damage from your anchor. For example, I can get around 7.5k from Teen Gohan with 6 bars, and it's a good way to finish off a match. Ideally you want to be spending 2 bars at most on a BnB.
- Is there a way to "find" cancels? Most of the combos I do, I know because someone else posted a video of it. How do people find them out? I've been doing the 2m,l,j,l,m for days and never realized I could jump a second time before launching. I have no idea how I should have known that.
That's standard Arc Sys mechanics lol. You can jump cancel some normals. For a lot of characters, their jumping 2H can be followed up with H to super dash up after them.

Can someone confirm RE: matchmaking

Are you only getting matched with people in the /64 player lobby that you joined? Or is it searching across all servers in the region? It takes forever. If I join the near-empty "Arena match" etc lobbies, I get no matches ever, so it sort of confirms my suspicion that it's lobby-limited matchmaking?

Thanks.

Never thought of using energy charge, it seemed too dangerous and more like a reference to the show than an actual mechanic. Is there a safe way to use it? Is there a "charge cancel"?

I'm not sure, I guess an assist or move that locks the opponent down could give you time, as could something like an enemy whiffing a super, but at that point you're better off just punishing them.

You build meter really quickly though.

I'm pretty sure arena match is server only, then ranked and casual match are game-wide.

Working on a Majin Buu + Gotenks meterless relaunch corner combo right now. It goes like:

cr.M, cr.H, dash up, j.LML, double jump, j.LML, hold j.S (4 hits), j.qcf+L, call Gotenks after 2 hits of the ground pound
then super dash, j.LML, double jump, j.LM, hold j.S (4 hits), j.qcb+M

4577 damage, no meter. I'm not sure if I can fit in another L after the last jumping LM; timing is really tight. But Majin Buu is turning out to be a better point character than I thought for sure.

Another question: What constitutes a good team? I've just been picking characters I like (and might go on doing just that) that seem to do different stuff. Currently playing Piccolo, Vegeta and Freeza.

Is there an order in which characters should be?

So far I like Nappa, Gotenks, and Krillin a lot, from the story mode.

From a day of getting crushed by some coworkers, I think I also liked Kid Buu and Goku Black.

Help me make the perfect team from this pool.

I kinda liked Gotenks, Krillin, and Kid Buu 'cause I call 'em "Team Short Boys", but after learning some of Nappa during the story mode I'm like maybe I need this guy.

Heyyy, I'm playing that combo now so this will be helpful. you might also be able to ultimate Z change into your anchor at the end, depending on who it is (I can do so with Tien on longer combos, but only his level 1)

Here is a 2 meter midscreen combo I was practicing last night to counter super dashes, not optimal but I've got the basics down. That ending with the ki blast into special into z change is tough.

Gotenks, Nappa, Kid Buu. Team Shout Boys. It's close enough.

That's probably the best order for that team, so well done lol.
You want a point character first, who is someone who can do well without meter, second you want a character with a good assist, and who can build meter/use meter well, this is probably the most lenient slot though. You want an anchor for your third, which is a character who can do well on their own, and benefit from having lots of meter.

Didn't see this posted anywhere but it seems like some dataminers found out all the DLC characters that will be in the game. http://ca.ign.com/articles/2018/01/29/dragon-ball-fighterz-datamine-seems-to-reveal-dlc-characters What do you guys think of the list so far.

  • Broly - as expected
  • Bardock
  • Zamasu (With Fused?)
  • Vegito (Blue?)
  • Base Goku
  • Base Vegeta
  • Cooler
  • Android 17 (Ranger)

Rofl did IGN seriously just straight up copy paste my OP here:

I know the netcode is good for delay based, but it's personally bumming me out. I get 5-10 frames of lag with people just some miles away (spiking to as high as 19!) which means I can forget about trying any combos other than auto combos, and that's not fun. It seems to be the same for everyone here. Shitty "third-world" internet I guess, but I don't remember Xrd being this bad.

Very disappointing for me personally.

Edit: I'm getting better connections with people in different countries

Loving the game but it's insanely buggy for me on PC. Every time I start it up and load into the hub, a pop up says that it "failed to save local data". And I can't progress in single player without having the game soft freeze. The screen moves but never progresses to the actual fight.

i found a fix in steam forums

http://steamcommunity.com/app/678950/discussions/0/1692659769958574821/#c1692659769961456006

C:\Users\[YOU]\AppData\Local\DBFighterZ\Saved\SaveGames - turn on viewing hidden files, delete system.sav WHILE PLAYING. If the game isn't running, you lose all your save data, but if it's running, you can do something that causes a save (like saving your story mode progress) and then it's all OK again

Awesome, thanks! I'll try this after work.

Speaking of PC issues, does anyone know how to get it to save your language setting? I've been having to change it back to English Voice Acting every single time I boot up the game.

I've had the exact same problem, but one day it just set English as the default (with the blue text indicating it was changed). All I did was change it from the main menu before starting up again.

I've been changing it on the main menu/title screen every single time.

Mind you I haven't checked today, and wouldn't check until Friday (uni work and I don't really like playing games during weekdays) so it could've changed back. At least the resolution and graphic options didn't change. That would drive me insane.

I thought this video had some good tips for things that weren't really covered in the tutorials:

im using Goku SSJ, Frieza, Gohan Adult, not sure if optimal, what do you think guys.

I think that the dog in your avatar is adorable.

Now seriously, not bad.

Gohan Assist is a great "get away from me" tool, since it's an invencible uppercut. Frieza and Goku should fight the most, leaving Gohan to join when you have bars and use Family Kamehameha, the damage is really good.

I don't know about Frieza assist, can't remember the move, I face many Frieza's as the first character on the team.

If you play Majin Buu, you can start an air combo without 2H. Just do anything (5LL or 2LL or 5M) into 2M > 2S. After you can super dash cancel (H+S) or link a 5L and then jump cancel into stuff.

Still trying to the figure out options once you get them in the air. I've seen Alioune posting combos into 214S with assists to force standing resets into a setplay style game, which seems pretty interesting.

I didn't realize you already posted this. I was scrolling around looking before I popped this in here... Maybe IGN owes you some royalties LOL
Nah they don't owe me anything. I mean I wasn't even the dataminer, just posted the topic. But they literally word for word copy pasted my post. It's kind of funny and blatantly obvious since they even kept my parentheticals in. I didn't know being an IGN "writer" was so easy that all you had to do was find forum posts to copy wholesale.

Don't worry, according to Tien, just wait till his arm grows back.

I'm sad there is no dramatic finish for Vegeta and Black. They could have the speech about why he is inferior to Goku.

I've said this before, and I know Semi-Perfect Cell isn't in this, but it would have been sweet if Tien Finished Cell with the Shin-Kokoho if they would have re-enacted that scene from Z, would have been lit.

This game is really user friendly. My kids whom have never watched an episode of Dragon Ball in their lives are hooked. Part of the reason they're hooked is because they whooped their daddy last night while I was showing this game off to them.

I don't think I've ever played a fighting game where I liked such a large number of the characters.

Usually I only end up "really" liking 1-3 characters in the cast. In this game the only one I haven't liked much is Fat Buu. It's making it really hard to pin down mains.
