I love what they did with all the dialogue boxes in the game. From the cute Animal Crossing-esque voices that change in pitch depending on what's said, the adorable animated portraits that even orientate differently based on where the actual sprite is facing, different backgrounds based on the character, etc..
Absolutely! I mean look at your avatar, I'm in love!

This game is awesome! Played the first two chapters, and it feels special already. Love the art style and music, and the controls are incredibly tight (not surprising, considering how well Towerfall played). I'd rather stay home and play than go to work today, it's that good (well, not that I need an excuse to want to skip work, but whatever).

No idea where to find the strawberries I missed in chapter 1. I explored every place I could and grabbed any that I saw, so they are either hidden well, or I'm bad at finding secrets.

Went through chapters 3-6 yesterday, can't wait to get back to it. An awesome game for sure!

This game is going to sell very, very well on Switch and maybe outsell all other platforms combined.
Super polished game, a retro hook, perfect timing, perfect month to release, no competitors. Very clever.

I agree. I for one really prefer to play these games on a smaller screen. Pixel art on a big TV doesn't look too good, but that's just my opinion.

Hope the game doing well on Switch is a good incentive for them to port Towerfall Ascension, because I would buy that in a heartbeat, and I didn't know anything about that game up until after Celeste released. Just knowing the amazing devs that are behind it is enough of a reason to look forward to a port :)

I heard it was planned after Celeste was done.

In my opinion, it looks great on a big TV. I mean, of course, it´s a matter of taste, but i mean..i have a 55" 4K TV..and it looks absolutely fantastic to me. But like i said, every taste is different, and i can understand you to:)
Are there other people who think the same way, by playing the game on a 4K TV? Would be interesting to know:)

Also I died 811 times in the b-sides of the third chapter, lol. This game will consume me.

Any tips for
checkpoint 09 on the summit? It's the one with 3 rows of ice spikes you have to jump through and there are two diamonds to refill your air dash

I had a heck of a time with this. I wish I had more detailed answers, but:

You need to start your first up dash at the highest possible point, then perfectly move right and dash up through the crystal, then dash left BUT dash up BEFORE the end of your left dash to get through the second hole. Then just dash up twice to the flag. it's all about timing and momentum.

My stats after beatin the main game, will unlock b sides etc soonly and play through those! Just takin a small break and play some MHW i don't want to burn through the game too fast! ^^

But as my tweet states what a master piece this game certainly will have a spot on my GOATS list. I would even dare and say it's the best indie i have played yet.

Don't mind my deaths and low strawberry count D:

So, looking around a bit, it feels like...

- # of deaths to beat the game is about 150-200 per hour that it took.
- Completion time is somewhere between 5 and 11 hours, covering about 90% of players?
- B-sides follow in difficulty from getting all of the Strawberries for that zone, at least, and probably in general. They're a giant step up if you haven't gotten good by going scavenger for strawberries yet.

I finished the game late last night. Really enjoyed my time with this game. I ended up finishing with around 65 strawberries. Not sure if I'll 100% it, but I'll keep playing for a while, for sure. As the first 2018 game that I've played, it definitely did not disappoint.

More spoilerish thoughts on the game:

I got a bit emotional during some of the later points in the game. Particularly when Madeleine falls down and is feeling at her worst. She's a very relatable and well realised character. In fact I was caught by surprise by how charming and interesting the characters were from the start. The feather moments were quite touching, also.

Finished the game, whew. I immediately went back to chapter 1 to get the remaining strawberries and secrets. I'm horrible at finding secrets so I'll use a guide for that with no shame, but strawberries I'll seek out.

Playing B-Side chapter 1 after collecting everything. Definitely a difficulty bump but after playing through the game, it doesn't feel too brutal. I imagine later B-Sides are less forgiving.

The game sounds wonderful according to the reviewers but that in-game art style does turn me off. Maybe a better pixel art like Iconoclasts would really convince myself to buy the game.

That's a different picture than what I got. Maybe it has to do with the number of strawberries?

It does look a lot better in motion, if that helps.

I finished the game with 130 strawberries or so and yes, my pie looked a lot more... Strawberry. :)

The ending pic definitely changes if you have more strawberries. The game lied and said they were useless lol :p
Now someone here needs to check what the pic looks like with 100% strawberries

Oh, wow, the ending of chapter 4.

edit: and, just as it happened to many others, my Switch version crashed just after that. Oh well, nothing was lost.

The game is #1 on the American eShop right now. I'm happy for the devs and artists behind it.

I'm on the last chapter and loving it.

There's a lot of variations. The entire picture changes, with the people looking happier and happier as the pie gets upgraded. My guess is somewhere between 5 and 10 different pictures?

You all are about to make me spend $20, I've resisted so far.

Just do it. I was initially hesitant when it released last Friday. Then, I kept reading all the positive impressions on Era and finally took the plunge last Friday. What a game - and I don't even typically like these difficult 2D platformers.

I find the enemy squishing effect to be so insanely much like SMB3. It's the best.

Absolutely. Not only that, theres some aesthetic touches to some of the levels, like blocks with the 4 bolts on the corners in other levels that scream smb3 to me. And level 5 felt like a zelda dungeon/ metroid with how it looked. I really feel like im playing a classic nintendo game in its hey day

In chapter 7 there is a block that is very deliberately a SMB3 reference,
right down to the secret you can do on it.

Anyone else having trouble with diagonal and up dashing on the Switch? Stick user here.

This was extremely frustrating trying to get the berries on Pico-8.

Was literally about to write this. Trying to go straight up or diagonal feels like a crap shoot sometimes., Especially frustrating when you keep crashing into walls during a run from your otherself. Get to the end and need to go straight up, nope guess we're gonna go diagonal and explode.

I generally play with the stick, but any time I knew I needed to make a jump straight up I would switch to the D-pad. Makes it a lot easier.

The game was very, very good, but not without its flaws. I didn't particularly enjoy that sequence where you have to advance while holding something and I wasn't a fan of the gimmicks that slowed down gameplay, such as those faces blocks that moved in the direction from where you hit them.

There was this gimmick too that I enjoyed but was kinda tricky to do on Switch with the directional buttons, so I had to switch to analog stick every time, which wasn't ideal, but that's more on the Switch itself obviously.

Those are extremely minor nitpicks though, I absolutely adored everything else, even those chase sections haha.

Good advice - I'll have to try that. I use the stick, as well and my success seems to also depend on what area I'm in. Sometimes it's easier for me to make certain transitions to up or diagonal than others.

I can't wait to continue playing but man, this game is really hard.

What does assist mode do?

This is my. I usually find these types of game too demanding. However, I enjoyed my time with the game immensely.

Props to those skilled and/or patient enough to do and get everything.
