The first few matches were too easy but it gets a little bit more challenging as you go, ended up really loving it. Loved Transistor as well.

Just finished this a couple of hours ago. That was an amazing experience and as someone who didn't really enjoy Transistors gameplay all that much I was surprised to be really into the rites.

Also, the soundtrack is just incredible. I was very happy to find it ons Spotify after I saw the credits rolling.

I've enjoyed all of their games but find the gameplay always lacks something. Transistor is the better of the three but Pyre just feels very simple and not all that fun for me.

Obviously, art direction and soundtrack tend to save them. The narrative is always decent, but not good enough to forgive trudging through the gameplay segments.

Finished this today with 11 hours on the clock. Overall I really enjoyed it; the characters and the world felt really rich and detailed, and the presentation was top-notch (as expected from Supergiant).

I can understand why the gameplay might not click with some people; the odd mix of attacking/positioning/switching didn't always feel entirely comfortable to me, and even late in the game I sometimes felt like I didn't quite have a handle on the controls. Nonetheless I had a great time playing through the rites, many of which got quite tense and exciting.

The sections between the action could get a little tedious at times, but I enjoyed the dialogue and lore enough for it not to be a huge issue. Oh, and the end credits are brilliant.

Glad I finally got around to playing this one. Weirdly enough, I could kinda see it as an animated series. I want action figures of the Nightwings!

Yeah, this needs to come out on Switch because I bought it on sale, and I should have paid full price for it. It's the best arcade sports game since Super Mega Baseball came out, but with the added bonus of well-written characters and scenarios that lead to each game having particularly intense stakes.

Plus, man, some of these characters are so enjoyable that I hope that they show up in some other games in the future in some form. I would not mind hanging out with Rukey, Mae, and Pamitha again.

It was so good that it made me try Transistor again (which didn't go well, but that's another story).

For me Bastion is a stunning game in most all ways and a big thanks to the team for giving original buyers on 360 a cheaper price when it came to Xbox.

On playing Transistor for the first time I gave up after around 30 mins, just did nothing for me and so disappointing after Bastion.

Pyre continued in the same direction as Transistor in that it's a worse game than those before it and will mean that while I continue to enjoy Bastion, I'll most likely never buy another game by these guys.

It really is a bad game.

+1. This is exactly me. I wanted to like their other two works, but clearly whatever audience they are aiming for it isnt me.

For me their games are diminishing. Bastion was great, and Transistor was interesting, but a step down despite the soundtrack which I love. Pyre had very little of anything I enjoyed. I never got engaged with its story, writing, and characters, so all the visual novel stuff became a bore. The gameplay took forever to develop into anything resembling a challenge, and I abandoned the game many hours in before it "got good" to some people. I also think the game was just too slow. Animations, moving on the map, transitions between scenes felt laborious, and with the gameplay that never got challenging and interesting, it just became a dull, repetitive chore. After freeing like the third or so character and knowing I was going to have to keep doing that, I just gave up. And, of course, that's a bummer because you never want games from developers you like to be something you dislike.

kept wanting to like it but it didn't really click with me all that much so I gave up on it halfway in myself

bit of a shame since I loved Transistor so was pretty hyped for it but I still think it's good that they're so willing to try new things, still intend to try out whatever they put out next

Keep going. It took me a while to really 'get' the core gameplay loop. Once it clicked I started to enjoy the trials more and more.

I get that way with my favorite movies and music as well. For example, my favorite movie is Spirited Away. I'm always wary of watching a Studio Ghibli movie that I haven't seen yet because I love Spirited Away so much and I don't want to be disappointed. I always end up loving the other movies even if I still love Spirited Away the most. I don't really understand the psychology behind that attitude... I certainly won't hesitate to dive into Supergiant's next game!

Also, I had the Transistor theme on my PS4 for the longest time. I'm excited to pick this baby up soon. They make some of the best themes on the PS4, for sure. It'll also make me feel a little better to give Supergiant some extra support after getting Pyre for half off.

!!! I did not know about this theme. Just bought and installed. Thanks for making me aware. I also felt bad about getting it on sale after realising what a special and well crafted game it was.

I played through Pyre in late December/early January and absolutely fell in love with it. It was third on my Era GOTY list, just behind BotW and Nier. Absolutely fantastic game.

Figured I'd bump this instead of making a new thread.

I picked this up in the summer sale. Huge fan of Transistor, so this felt like a no-brainer. And I gotta say, I'm really disappointed. Not in the quality of the game, but I really just don't like it. As in, I don't "get" it. I'm about six hours in according to Steam playtime, I've done the whole initiation rites thing and I'm working towards the second. And I just...kinda hate it.

I wish I could explain or even understand why I hate it, but I can't. It's just infuriating. When I win, it feels like I was playing against a potato. When I lose, it feels like the AI is cheating. Games never feel close, and I never feel like I'm actually learning how to play.

Conceptually it's really cool that they came up with something so new and unique. In practice, I just don't enjoy that thing and it's really disappointing.

I skipped pyre because the gameplay looks completely uninteresting to me. Like some 3v3 basketball game.

Everything else looks amazing, and I loved bastion and transistor. But this one was a complete miss for me.
This is pretty much what I was going to write. I do love Transistor more than Bastion though, and I think that's mainly down to the sheer amount of choice in the combat system. It's basically a deck building system and it's glorious.

Loved Bastion and though Transistor was good. Got halfway through Pyre on PS4 then quit for some reason. If they ever bring it to Switch Ill probably pick it up again, seems like a perfect game for a portable console. Im really surprised Bastion and Transistor arent already on the switch, Id grab them in an instant.

I absolutely loved Pyre, thought it was even better than Transistor. The story was phenomenal and the gameplay and story structure were brilliant.

Definitely a hit or miss around here, but (as you can see by my avatar) this game is a huge hit to me. It's got everything I love in games: RPG mechanics, Persona style relationships, Fast-paced competitive gameplay, and both a perfect soundtrack and art style. One of my favorite games ever.

While this game is actively being discussed again, I'll pimp out the stellar OST:

I really liked Bastion. I loved Transistor. Then Pyre came out being a mix of some sort of a basketball game with RPG stats. I got it on sale and dropped it after a few hours. It just didn't click. I tried to get back to it a few times but it's just not my cup of tea.

Interestingly enough, I do like actual basketball games, i.e. 2K and Live.

I'd like to see some high level Pyre play. I know people with higher skills would show off mechanics way better, in my hands it felt more like trying to find AI exploits to cheese games.

I was slightly disappointed in where the narrative went. Arguably every video game loses some magic when you see through the seams, but the structure of this game definitely felt very laid out and repetitive from very early on. I do like a lot of the characters, which aggravated the fact that every character that leaves basically only sends one message and is then never heard from again until the ending. For some other games I'd gladly replay through to see variations of scenes/characters. I felt pretty content to just read about other branching stories in Pyre.

Overall I'd say Pyre 8/10, Transistor 10/10, Bastion 10/10. I do appreciate Supergiant's work on making every game play differently (Bastion obviously most mainstream), and every world feel so interesting. Every time I kind of wish they had a higher budget to do the worlds justice (probably a terrible idea, as that would change the team structure dramatically), that's sort of a compliment, I guess.

Any word on if Bastion has a switch release? May get in on the Limited Run preorder for Vita if not announced before August 26th...

big fan of theirs but with life and backlog i had to put Pyre on the backburner. but gotta say i still can't really parse what the game is. perhaps it's amazing and their best game but just a weird pitch and doesn't surprise me it didn't take off

It's going to go down as a forgotten classic. Not only is the art and music remarkable, as usual with Supergiant, it has wonderful and unique gameplay with a fascinating story and cast. I loved it and hope more will experience it.

For me it is by far their best game. I am probably going to play it again on a harder difficulty this summer.
