How much would you guys pay for a Formula 1 streaming service?

I'm currently paying $65 AUD a month to watch F1 on foxtel. I don't watch anything else on TV so it's pretty much a waste of money from the last race of the year until Melbourne.
I also don't go to the Australian Grand Prix anymore as I spend my ticket money on foxtel instead.

So I'll pay anything less than 65 a month for streaming.

I hope they offer some discount if you buy the whole season upfront like NFL or NBA league pass.

Given that Sky have announced all their services will be available via the internet (no more dish) I wonder how that affects F1 rights for streaming.

When the WWE Network launched it basically eventually ended up everywhere except the UK because of Sky. So I wouldn't hold me breath.

That said, just throw a few bucks to a DNS service and you're good to go.

Nah, it went to a few countries but was hung up on the UK a bit because of the Sky deal. But at least it ended up here in it's proper network form.

In Canada it's basically a TV channel with no VOD. WWE really caved into the Canadian broadcasters there

It has to be noted that Sky basically produce the world feed for F1 so any deal will be more involved than just broadcast rights.

Long time lurker, sometimes poster back in the pre 2014 seasons.

I just wanted to share my excitement that I just got a job offer to live and work in Monaco.

I'm fucking excited that I'll be right in the middle of an F1 icon during the season.

Congrats, just don't pee in your seat during the race. ;)

Formula E news:
Pininfarina and Mahidra Racing signed a strategic partnership today. This could also be a sign of Pininfarina doing designs for Mahidra on other fields as well
Thanks for the info.

I can't wait for your live stream setup for us!

Unfortunately I have a friend getting married that weekend. Already tried to persuade the fucker to move it forward a week.

I'll try and take photos of the classic gp they have a couple of weeks before and also the lead up to it.

Because it makes the streaming service from Liberty more likely to be available here and I'd rather have that than paying for Sky when I just want to watch F1.
And you think that will be cheaper?

Without Sky, I'm probably done with F1 for now. Surer was the only decent expert and I'm not gonna pay 10-20 Euros or whatever they gonna ask on top.

I don't see how Liberty's service is going to be more expensive than the Sky Sports package that includes F1. Not to mention the absolutely awful apps Sky has everywhere, with 720p streaming only.

I think it will be very expensive with bad commentators and with no access from my country.

Maybe he can join RTL. He seems like a good Lauda Replacement.

I hate so much watching F1 on RTL and most Ebel. Comercial break every 10 minutes and without friday practices its a mess.

I agree, so shocked even right now. Loved Surer the perfect guy as F1 expert. My local tv is like watching parody.

Is there an Indy thread, or is it okay to discuss it here like we do with Formula E and Formula 2?

I'd be fine with 720p if it were 50/60fps but Sky Ticket is still only 25fps. A high framerate's gonna be an absolute must for Liberty's service.

Talking about F1 streaming prices.. I don't think they're idiots, and Bernie 'bleed them dry" Ecclestone isn't involved anymore.

I think F1 will make it competitive and value for money and actually make the sport attractive again for fans. Eurosport in the UK costs something like £6 or £7 a month, Netflix £7ish, Now TV (Game of Thrones, Walking Dead etc) is £7. For a one sport service with 20 races a year I'd expect no more than those to be honest. Even £10 a month would be great to me personally, although I want widespread native apps for the service with 4K and high frame rate race coverage. No reason why not (recently acquired 75mbps broadband and can effortlessly stream amazingly detailed 4K60fps videos on YouTube, F1 like that would be bloody incredible.)

I think people are being very forgetful that this company actually wants to make F1 more popular and more accessible to people, far from the ethos of Ecclestone.

I like the confidence.

Japanese motorsport journalist Masami Yamaguchi says Honda have gained 90bhp since spec 3.8 was introduced.

:I

I'll refuse to watch F1 on RTL. Their whole bias on german drivers is unbearable. Sky on the other hand had enthuastic commentators who just want to see great racing. I know they reported record numbers for subscriptions but what's left on Sky? 80% of Bundesliga, 60% of Champions League, other sports like golf, tennis and handball that have very limited viewership. I wouldn't be surprised if they leave the german market 5-10 years from now completely.

I might cave in if Liberty Media or someone else announce an affordable streaming service. 10€ a month (at most) if coverage is top-class and quality is great (HD + 60fps).

I was hoping the Formula E chassis would jump straight to a good looking implementation of the halo but if the rest of the car looks like the concept I'm happy.

F1 cars have mandated that the Halo as a structure must remain at the core, and only aerodynamic parts may be fitted to it.
