Hey, anyone else still playing this regularly?

My wife LOVES this game. She's played more than I've played Xenoblade 2. I can't get her to stop playing... anyway. Yeah, she loves it. But has a question: How do you get into the sewers?
I think you have to give 60 different things to the museum? Just give a ton of stuff to the museum, and eventually you'll be given a key.

I just pick the game up again. I took a long break cause it got boring doing the same stuff everyday :P I wanna at least get past year 3.

Awesome, thanks for the tip! My wife started the game not even a month ago and she's already had 50 hours on it. I'm only at 55 hours on Xenoblade 2 and I've owned the game for longer.

After you've donated 60 things to the museum, you'll get the key to the sewers!

edit: omg sorry I just saw that like half a million people already answered your question lol

Damn, y'all are a super helpful community! Thanks for the responses. My wife just started playing the game a few weeks ago and she's IN IT. I haven't seen her love a game like this since Paper Mario Color Splash and Animal Crossing NL. She's not a huge gamer but this is the third most game she's sunk her teeth into and plays on her own regularly.

Has there been any news on the Vita version's release date?
I've stopped playing on ps4 so that I still have things to achieve once it hits the Vita.

I have so many games I should be playing but I keep playing stardew. I've put about 400 hrs between pc switch and PS4.

Semi-regularly, my son likes to play random and I make sure he has the money to do it.

Waiting for the Vita port for more regular play.

I dont really understand how multiplayer will work.
Could someone log into my game and pass through days without me playing?

I really need to get back into this at some point. It took over my free time for a couple of weeks in the fall but then other games started coming and I haven't been back since. Next time I start it up will be the first day of my first winter, which will be interesting. I'd hit a point where I was feeling a little bad about my income flow not being very great, since I underestimated how long it might take to start producing the kinds of things I really wanted to build my farm around. As a result, I've undergrown in the early seasons and it stifled some development.

I know everyone says "just relax and play how you want" but the sense of time "wasted" not growing the farm faster nags at me.

I just reached spring year 3 and I think it's time for me to stop playing as I'm no longer enjoying it much. I loved most of my time with this game but after completing Community Center my excitement dwindled pretty quickly as I didn't feel like there was much to do anymore. Well, it was fun while it lasted.

I have to say I was a bit disappointed with the social part of the game. At first it seemed very impressive with all those different characters you can befriend and see their little stories but then it turns out they don't really have that many scenes and non-romanceable characters barely get any (if at all). But it was pretty cute for what it was.

So here's a question, and I don't mind spoilers...

I'm nowhere close to completing the Community Center and I'm already in winter of year 2. Is it "mandatory" to complete the Community Center by the end of year three, or does the game keep going in and endless loop and allow me to complete it at my own pace? Do all of the bundles have to be completed within a year?

I've basically put all my time into getting a good rhythm going with farming and romancing Abigail (we're married now).

Endless loop - you get an evaluation at the beginning of Spring year 3, and completing the community center gives a lot of points towards that, but after the first evaluation you can use a diamond to get evaluated whenever you feel like.

My fiance just lost her watering can on the Switch version. She checked all of her chests and it's nowhere to be found. Has anyone heard of this happening on the Switch version?

I just started playing this on the PS4.

I finished my first ever week, been palanting and harvesting loads of Parsnips, and slowly but steadily clearing my farmland.

The next "quest" is prompting me to make a coop, but it just feels so far away in resources! Do I have to start going to the mines to make copper

Yeah. The first 10-50 levels of the mine aren't bad at all. Just make sure you have your pickaxe and a decent sword equipped (you really don't need anything else in terms of equipment; make room for loot), and craft 3-5 Field Snacks.

Currently in Spring, 3rd year [60h by now]. I am married to Elliot, but I don't want the full house upgrade. Is it too important to get a good evaluation from grandpa?

I have a Starfruit in one chest, I will definitely use it for wine - good to know that it makes a lot of money o_o

I also would like to know if there is an alternative to get the fish. It is my hardest bundle - I really hate fishing in this game.

PS: The art of the top post in this thread is SO LOVELY <3

The full house upgrade is totally worth it. Gives you an incredible way to increase the value of goods like cheeses and spirits to iridium grade. I say go for it.

As for fishing, I hated it at the onset, as well. Initially it almost seems impossible. But honestly, all it really takes is practice. I've come to really, really enjoy fishing. I'm playing on Switch so I don't know if this applies, but it just requires mastering the button holds and releases. I even manage to catch fish with a perfect job reeling them in now. This is coming from someone who avoided it like the plague during the first year.

2 question regarding fishing:

What is "Perfect" - does it mean any extra rewards?
Does "MAX" mean anything more than the longest distance?

Max is just the longest distance. I believe you earn a little bit more experience in fishing if you get a perfect, but I'm can't find a source for that.

This is correct, at least according to the Wiki; MAX simply means your line is at the maximum distance, while perfect gives you a bonus to fishing experience.

I've done several new files on this game and I've always left the coop quest for a very long time before building one! I always make sure I'm a bit settled in on my farm before starting on animals.
Definitely first build a silo before you get your coop! Getting one really makes the whole animal business run a lot smoother. :)

I read before that hitting max on fishing uses up a bit more energy for no extra benefit so probably best to go lower than max.
Unless you need it to reach bubbles.

I have found the fish to be the hardest to collect for the CC.
Every time i catch a fish i quickly check to see if it is one that I am missing (I can never remember which ones they are), and it rarely is.

I also eased off the game after the evaluation, having married and fully upgraded the house, completed the community centre, and maxed most of the social stuff (I even got all the guys to 10 before selecting my husbando because I am Pelican Town's resident love rat). I suspect I may return to it next winter - it sits alongside something like Pokemon in that it's incredibly comforting and uplifting for cold days and dark nights.
I also would like to know if there is an alternative to get the fish. It is my hardest bundle - I really hate fishing in this game.
I hated fishing at first too but when you get the better rod and the different lures and bobs it can help massively and you get into the rhythm of things more. That said, it's also really helpful that the traveling cart south of your farm will sometimes be selling a fish from one of the bundles and it can allow you to pick up rare fish without having to spend ages waiting for them to appear while you're fishing, or without even visiting the area they appear in (e.g. I finished the fishing bundles before even reaching the point where I could catch one of them because I bought it).

Couple of questions for you helpful folk:

1) Are paths and walls just for aesthetics?

2) I've seen photos online of giant fruits growing on farms? How do I get in on this?

Paths and walls are partly aesthetic but I ended up walling and gating off my crop fields to stop my animals wandering onto them, as they'd get in the way while I was watering and harvesting crops. I made paths just for fun but I think I made my farm ugly as heck and too busy as a result.

Giant fruits I'm not sure, it may have something to do with having a lot of the same thing growing close together, and possibly with certain fertilizers.

Certain crops like melons, cauliflower, and pumpkins have a chance to grow giant. You need to plant a bunch together, at least a grid of 3x3.

You can eat foraged items from the forest instead, (Salmon Berries, which start spawning on bushes around that point in the game, will be your goto for a while) and once summer rolls around you'll get access to the spa, where you can go to recover stamina for free.

Learn the crafting recipe for field snacks, which are made of tree nuts, and eat those instead.
Naked crops give poor energy value per item, so don't eat them.

I had trouble finding tree nuts after some time - are there specific things to look for?
There are 3 kinds of tree nuts, and they all make little sprouts on the ground which you dig up with a hoe.
If you cleared ALL the trees, then they won't make seeds for you.

I found the one tree species made less seeds than the other 2, or else my quantity of trees was unbalanced. I am on year 3 and still have barely used any of my farm. In fact, since unlocking the greenhouse, I pretty much only grow strawberries and whatever I haven't shipped 15 of yet XD

Also buying Iridium sprinklers whenever the weirdo shop sells them is totally worth it.

It tells you right on the menu for upgrading tools "You'll have to leave them with me for a few days, though".

Don't worry too much about it, it only takes 1 full day to upgrade (so if you give it to Clint on Monday it will be available on Wednesday) and crops can go 1 day without water before they start to die. All it will do is add a day onto the growth cycle (I think that's what happens at least). If you water them the day you get your tool back they'll be fine.

You can just put stuff you want to sell in the box outside your house. I can't remember anything that needed to be sold specifically to him.
