I'm curious as to whether this project is going to be current or cross gen (or possibly even next gen only).

Don't forget that Yuji Nake is also at Square Enix now. Crystal Dynamics is a part of Square Enix so I'm thinking that they may collaborate on projects! :)

Well, previous job postings did call the game a "third person cover shooter", so I guess it's not entirely impossible that you play an Agent of SHIELD instead:

It also sounds like an online game, so an Agent of SHIELD would also fit in with the create a character thing common in such games:

What if it's a Battlefront 2 type of game? *shudder*

4-6 hour "campaign" and a "third person cover shooter" 64 players mp with a shield army against a thanos army. You can earn infinity shards to "buy" supply drops from the avengers.

And there're 4-6 hero units per side you can unlock after 50 hours of playtime (per unit) or per chance in the free supply drops after each match.

This way fans can play a their favourite Avenger (for a very short time per match) or bad guy.

Oh yes before i forget... You get to play as Captain America in the campaign for about 15 minutes. Throwing his shield at waves of thanos minions while Iron Man tries to decode something in the back. Just think about the banter between these two characters.

Pre-order the outstanding 129,99 $ "Assemble" Edition to get the "year one" season pass, 3 skins for Captain Americas shield and a XP Bonus for the first 24 hours.

I want to believe, but after the Star Wars games I feel like this is going to let me down. I know, different developers, but there's too much pressure to get this out by a certain time.

Could be the first triple-A movie tie-in
It's not a movie tie in. Has nothing to do with the movie.

My interest in this depends on whether we'll actually play as an Avenger or just a Shield agent
This. I'm not playing an Avengers game as a normal human soldier. We have more than enough of that. Would be a huge waste of IP

I remember that. I hope that's for Widow, Falcon & Hawkeye. And that they plan to use the wider cast.

Give me DC Universe online but Marvel version please.
Not from this team

There's no pressure. It's not a movie tie-in. The whole point of their new games initiative is to let teams build the games they want to make without being bound to movie plots or schedules

Seems like the members saying this just don't like superheroes
If it's an Arkham Asylum/City/Knight quality game it won't be

It's not no matter what. These are all external hires which means they are voluntarily moving over there because they are excited about the project.

This "wasted talent" is cleary getting to work on something they personally feel motivated to be on. Sounds pretty great to me

I mean, it's good for them if they are excited to make this game.

But a third person cover shooter GaaS Avengers game sounds like literally the most unappealing idea a publisher could come up with.

For you?

Most people like comic book movies / games and most people like GAAS titles. 8 of the top 10 selling games of the year were GAAS.

I can't wait to see this game and the level of talent they are hiring only reinforces that

Well, yes, many people do like comic books and GaaS titles but this would be like super talented people going to work on Bayformers.

People like Star Wars...

Wouldn't be shocked if we get a Battlefront 2 copy with 20% less greedy pay2win.

Wouldn't surprise me if it's something like Destiny or The Division.
Create your own superhero and/or Shield agent and play with your friends.
Avengers are pretty much setpieces and quest givers.

Not what I want at all in other words, give me more amazing looking singleplayer games please.

though hiring and putting Shaun on something like that seems like an odd choice

I have a easy solution. Make a linear story where you play as a whole bunch of different avengers. Then for the multiplayer just make it a overwatch clone with marvel characters

There's no way this game isn't a destiny-type clone.

Avengers are all about team based missions. Super heroes working together to fight bad guys. If we step into the shoes of a SHIELD agent at all, it'll be a disappointment

It's not a movie tie in. Has nothing to do with the movie.

But it very clearly plays into the fact the movies are coming out around the same time. Not strictly a movie tie-in then, but close enough.

Also, even if we count games based on comics, we haven't had a top quality triple-A comic book game since... Arkham? Spiderman seems to be good enough but it isn't out yet. Deadpool, Wolverine, etc. were decent at best.

If you don't play as a superhero/villain and instead as a Shield Agent then it's a complete waste of a license. Maybe good to have as an option but I am really hopeful they let you play as an up n coming super worth the goal to join Avengers.

Otherwise what we will get is Division but now with super villains being HP sponges.

Both Naughty Dog and Santa Monica are notorious for bleeding staff due to having some of the hardest crunch in the industry.

Higher cost of living as well. Seen people leave those studios as they're looking to buy a house and realizing that it is a lot easier outside of the games industry or in places like Austin, Research Triangle, Salt Lake City, or even the Pacific Northwest.

I'm actually still worried on what this game might turn out to be...I want a good AAA single player game and not multiplayer action/shooter.
Also, X-Men for dlc?

I'm really curious to see what this game will be as a fan of Avengers. lol Can't wait to see how they'll do it. (And I hope that it isn't to MCU focused)

Also, nice acquisitions by Crystal Dynamics, they're going to be good.

Interesting to see how the game play works, agents with hero moments or are we running about as the Avengers. I could imagine scenarios that are open ended and you choose whoever, tackle the mission in creative ways and different paths, could be cool. Infiltration/recon team, ground team, air team, smash team.

I hope all this talent goes towards making a genre-definining title that makes full use of the license, and not a cover shooter playing as a Shield agent.

It's not uncommon to crunch toward internal milestones, especially if your project is struggling (like their game that got canned).

We also had a Santa Monica developer back on GAF talk about working 80+ hour weeks for like two years straight so...

80+ hour weeks for making God of War: Ascension smh. Not that crunch is ever okay, but that kind of effort deserves a better game.

FUCK YES. <3

The talent includes Shaun Escayg, former Naughty Dog creative director, and Stephen Barry, a 27 year games vet from EA and Visceral Games.

"We hired fifteen world-renowned industry veterans, spanning production leadership, animation, design, art and engineering, who have previously worked on games such as Batman: Arkham Origins, Dead Space, Star Wars: Battlefront and many more," shared Ron Rosenberg, Co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics. "Their AAA experience adds to an already deep roster, making us well-positioned to deliver on the ambitious goals we've set for ourselves with The Avengers project. It's a stellar addition of many people who fit incredibly well into our wheelhouse of building game experiences we all love."

Escayg, whose accomplishments include Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and The Last of Us, exclaimed, "I'm thrilled to join Crystal as Creative Director and be aligned with a team as passionate about telling great character based stories as I am."

I'm not sure what to do here, I looked for Marvel Crystal Dynamics on the search and nothing came up. This thread is about the official press release that Marvel just dropped, but Polygon reported the deal days ago:

https://www.resetera.com/threads/cr...lith-and-more-for-the-avengers-project.18541/

So if the mods/admins think it should be closed, I'll leave it to them. SweetNicole ZhugeEX

Like I've said above, not sure what to do about the situation. Polygon's thread wasn't after Marvel's Press Release, so how do we go about this?
