Just beat the last trial. Who on earth thought it they were a good idea in a game where combat is not one of it's strong aspects? I don't think I would have beat it without the ancient arrows because they one shot everything including Lynels.

Now back to the good part of the game, exploring, shrines and then second DLC.

Immediately shoot the Lizalfos in the middle with a headshot. (Make sure to take it out before the other two Lizalfos get alerted). Keep going until it's dead. (Stasis if necessary.)
Then chain sneakstrikes on them over and over until they die. You basically do the sneak attack from behind, and then quickly get to the front of them when they're lying down following the attack. When they get up, they will turn around, allowing you to do the back attack again. Rinse and repeat.

That's the easiest strategy (in my opinion), at least.

Thanks for that finally finished Trial of the Sword on Master Mode today, must have died over 10 times on the beginner trials before your hint. Middle trials were a bit easier but still died at least 5 times before passing them. Final Trials were trivial and I didn't know Ancient Arrows one shot Lynels.... so I died the first time playing but second time just gave the Lynel in the final room an Ancient Arrow to the face. Final Trials are a time sink but easier than anything else due to the plentiful weapons and fairy's around. I think I finished my run only using 1 AA on the Lynel and 3 more on the Flying Guardian. For the rest I had plenty of weapons, even killed the Lynel in the Ice Trials without AA and had two fairy's to spare.

Now onto the rest of the DLC Shrines, since I've done only the four on the Plateau. Honestly once I finish those I might finally be done with this game, it's unbelievable that across my two play-through I've played for nearly 350 hours and still have things to do and shrines I haven't seen. I've given up on the Korok Seeds - perhaps one day I will return and find them all with my Korok Mask.

I just finished dlc 2 and liked it quite a bit. The picture hunts were a nice way to revisit areas I'd been before, and it was a fun challenge to find each area. Not nearly as difficult as the memories thankfully.

The 16 new shrines were pretty cool and the new dungeon was just OK. Overall very happy with both DLCs and after 200+ hours playing the game I think I can comfortably be done with it now.

Got passed that part. Saw the next part was "find these secret spots in the world via a picture bullshit and quit.

I almost quit the DLC when I saw that but I got into the game a few days later, a week maybe, and it is not that bullshit, it didn't help that my first trial were Revali's, which I think are the only ones were you could feel that finding and doind the things on the place is bullshit, the rest are not difficult and are really enjoyable :)

I finshed last night and I felt pretty nostalgic about a game I first played on march last year. it was las revisiting a game that you have loved for many many years.

I thing the last dungeon was pretty short, but the puzzles wero good and the Boss was fun.

In the ends I think $20 for all the DLC is just the exact amount, it is not cheap or expensive, but fair?

the secret stairways shrine was absolutely brilliant, so small and simple and so many ways to do it.

I thought about some statis/magnet switcharoo but probably was not fast enough, then I saw how high the railings went and decided I will just blow myself up there, set double bombs below the boxes, stood on them and it catapulted me high into the air. high enough for the chest and the actual way out.

then I thought there's no way that was the intended solution, looked up a few videos online and no one did it this way but people had different combinations of cryo/statis/magnet/bombs to do it.

.. also Octo balloons - which I'd never even considered.

Absolutely loved this little shrine.

It doesn't help that I don't like Kass (never liked him in the base game either).

So I just beat the monk who you have to fight. Honestly I'm so proud of this. I ran out of weapons and arrows at exactly halfway (used my last arrow to get him to half where he turned giant) so I fought the other half of the battle purely with remote bombs and magnesis when he summons the spiky boulders.

It was a long battle but I fucking did it

I took the season pass but I didn't finish the story (only got 2 divine beasts). Can I get all items beside the mount?

I've noticed several quests added but I don't know if it's about the first DLC.

(I didn't read all the OT to keep some surprise :p )

Is this the most current BOTW-thread? Anyway I just came to vent about the thieves' lair and how it doesn't have save checkpoints. I don't remember a game where I'd been THIS stuck. I don't...

When you get good at that part you can toy with those guys for fun, which is 100% worth it.

Reminder that you can toss bananas long distances for true easy mode.

It's because I suck with combat and controls, still, after all these months. How do I throw something a distance? Hold an item, then press right bumper? I'm almost through it, I've been backstabbing the big guys but then I usually mess in the big room. Just my own fault. I haven't even mastered the parry-riposte mechanic.

There's probably a LTTP thread somewhere but this is the most recent OT-type, I guess.

You mean the Yiga Clan hideout? Are you using bananas effectively? You could also try flying over most of them.

D-pad (directional buttons) down, iirc, changes the throwing-mode.

You shouldn't be trying to fight anyone in there.

The intention is to move past them with thrown bannans, but you can also do the Geurdo dungeon quest line last and comeback after doing the other three dungeons. By then you should have enough fire power to slaughter them all no problem. Up to you though! :D

Ahh I'm backstabbing all of them, seemed to be easy way out. Maybe it doesn't work in the big room with multiple guards but the first two guards are easy to just sneak upon and press 'y'. I'll keep these advices on my mind as I dive in to BOTW soon.

So, I haven't still killed any of the beasts and the first one I do is going to be the desert beast. That's what I have heard is supposed to be a good order. I have enjoyed the desert area a lot actually. I also played it on CEMU in 4k and whatnot but the Switch version just seems right to me and I'm going to stick with that. Maybe I'm insane. Anyway I bought the game for Wii U and now for Switch, I like supporting some special titles like that. It's just that I'm spending lot of money on lot of different games and only play select few. After going on tangent - I think they are already developing new Zelda title and I have hopes for a new title already next year. This is my intuition.

Really suggest you do the Rito next. The reward you get is super helpful for most of the game.

...who told you that?

That's mean.

Anyhow if you are dead set on gerudo first, you should def get a fairy or two.
theres a fary fountain around the far left side of the desert, I unfortunately cant remember the exact location of it, just that its under this huge skeleton
No spoilers on the boss, but you are going to want pot lids and wooden shields for sure.

Okay, I'll put this down on notepad. First the desert beast, then Rito. For some reason Zora's domain doesn't interest me that much even though it's the one for which the game directs you towards first. If I get too much trouble with the desert beast I can always back up I suppose. It's like my life in general: zero effort unless supervised.

whoever told you this was trolling you. it's objectively the hardest one (specifically the boss).

also: there'll not be a new 3D Zelda out next year. Announced is the best case scenario. Released is a 100% easy no. Don't get your hopes up.

I finally got around to beating the game. Did anyone else feel the ending was underwhelming?

Probably my least favorite Zelda game I have played. Hopefully the next one has proper dungeons and the weapons dont break as easily. Weapon durabilty was the biggest turn off for me.

Managed to clean the clan hideout along with their treasury. Now I can finally be at peace - for now. I'll leave the beast for another day, I wouldn't like to ruin a nice Sunday!

How should I be playing this game?

I normally play RPGs like I played FF7, going after the best gear I can get, but with weapons breaking here is that the best way to do it? Should I just explore and not be so worried about having the best weapons?

For example tracking down all the best Witcher gear in the Witcher 3.

I feel like it's counterintuitive to be doing it that way and I'm playing wrong.

I've never played Zelda before so unsure if there's a better way to play that isn't being bothered about having the best of everything.

Yeah basically every weapon breaks, even the good stuff, so it's not really worth going out of your way to find the nicest equipment. It can be useful having an elemental weapon if you're going to a region w/ the opposite element (like having an ice sword while on the volcano for example) but besides that it's not worth bothering over imo. Maybe save a good weapon or two in case you come across an enemy stronger than the normal mobs, but otherwise just explore naturally and use stuff as you get it. You'll be picking up weapons faster than you can break 'em majority of the time anyway.

BotW is kinda designed in a way that constantly pushes the player to get creative and frequently provides many different solutions to a problem - whether that be a puzzle, a battle, getting to a location, what have you. So even if you find yourself low on weapons or ammo, typically you'll still have something else at your disposal that can get you through (like bombs, nearby metal objects, pushing enemies into water, etc). A big part of what makes the game fun is always being kept on your toes and figuring out different ways to do things. So I wouldn't stress too much about what you have in your inventory and just have fun wandering around. :)

Ahh got it thanks.

I had no idea there was different elemental areas....

Well, some places are hotter than others. There's also places that are colder. The elemental weapons can, to an extent, be used as a replacement for gear. An ice weapon can keep you cool and a fire weapon can keep you warm.

You should get a taste of how it works on the plateau, one of the shrines is on top of a mountain that you need warm clothes/spicy food/a fire weapon to get to the top of without freezing to death.

There are places with temperatures so extreme that simply equipping an elemental weapon will not be enough, like the Hebra Mountains.

You can technically go in any order you want, but if you're not used to the systems definitely follow the story prompts through the first two towns to help you get your bearings.

One thing to think about with the weapons is to consider them ammo instead of things you need to hang onto. When you pick up a weapon, you're just getting more ammo of a certain type.

You'll have no problem finding "ammo" to replace what you use up, and as you get further through the game, you'll regularly find more and more better stuff which does more damage, has higher durability, and has different characteristics.

Yeah, I did use the torch for warmth to get to that shrine, but I never thought about elemental weapons being used against enemies in those regions to do damage. Admittedly I haven't come across any elemental weapons, but that's so cool.

finally picked the game back up (first time since October 2017!) and I'm intent on finishing the shrines and sidequests. Almost there, god I love this game. Found Selmie's Spot, it's the coziest thing I've ever seen
