‘The Messenger’ a new Ninja Gaiden-esque 2D Platformer

Wow the game looks so similar to Shovel Knight, most notably the Specter Knight expansion! Did you guys just lift assets or are some staff shared between the two? It can't just be coincidental! Even the text "typing" sound is identical! I assume Jake Kaufman is composing? It sounds too much like him to not be him!
If you guys can reach the same level of design mastery and polish as Shovel Knight, I'm in for sure!

As someone who has bought Shovel Knight on 3 platforms and has played it a lot, I'm gonna say... nah, honestly it's not similar. It's just trying to evoke NES nostalgia just as Shovel Knight did.
Will there be a babe like Irene Lew in this game?

The rest of the art style/Sprite work looks dangerously close to Shovel Knight too. Feels iffy.

There are SO many Ninja arcade games from back in the day that have ninjas that look just like this lol
I don't understand, it has a retro look that Shovel Knight also pulled from older games. But despite that, they don't look very similar anyway.
I was thinking exactly this. There are some games I love revisiting from my childhood and others I don't. Ninja gaiden is the latter. Looking forward to watching speed runs of this though.
I really don't get the Shovel Knight comparisons, outside of the fact that it looks like a retro game. Nothing looks anywhere close to lifted from SK.
This looks really great, but I've been burned too often by indie games that are Harder Than Thou.

I never played the classic NG games, but this actually does look pretty neat.

I played that at an event in montreal last year and i can tell you this is amazing! I also had a good talk with the team who made it and let me tell you guys the best part (feature) of the game (something i can't talk about atm) isn't even in the trailer.
Thought this was a new game by the Shovel Knight devs, the graphics (sorry don't know the technical details here) look exactly like it.
I'm down for the console version. Hopefully PS4, but I will take a Switch version as well.

This looks pretty dam good. I didn't hear at all about it, so I'm thankful for this bump.
It's unfortunate that the game's title is very generic. It'll have to depend on word of mouth primarily I feel like if it turns out to be as good as it looks.
I don't like games being hard for the sake of being hard but I really appreciate challenging action games that have a good feel to the controls and encounters. Something like I IWBTG would look similar to Super Meat Boy to the average joe but they are designed for completely different tastes. The gameplay for this so far all looks fantastic.

Everyone should play Oniken. It's by the creator of Odallus, which is also the best indie castlevania.
