Also really interested in how this is received, as it's focused on the American Revolution. Also, the music style is not as popular there I'd imagine. Hopefully the underlying message shines through.

I got to see it live in Chicago and I was fucking floored, it was incredible. The whole world should see it. I want the original cast recording to be released so I can watch it over and over again.

i'm not sure that fondness for hiphop comes close to being a prerequisite for liking hamilton. none of the several people i know who have had lengthy phases of hamilton addiction here in the us have ever really been big hip hop fans.

Yeah that's the things, it's not all Hip Hop too. It's a mix of Spoken Word, R&B, Hip Hop, and "traditional" musical numbers. The magic is that it all blends together so well.

I'm going to live in London from May until July of next year and would like to catch this. Should I buy the tickets now? What other shows do you brits recommend?

A few tracks have leaked on tumblr.. it's so weird hearing this with different performers.

Unless you win the daily lottery, tickets for this have sold out. I think a few premium seats also go on sale each Monday for the week.

Yes, as soon as possible.

I've bought two tickets for £89.50 a week ago for May 30th on ticketmaster.co.uk. There was one row available for that price (not anymore). Premium tickets for £200 should be a bit easier to come by.

Just check every the availability of tickets for every performance, and check often. Maybe you're as lucky as me. But don't hesitate buying tickets as soon as you see them.

What other shows do you brits recommend?

Not a brit, but my wife and me will travel to London next May/June, and we will also get tickets for The Book of Mormon. But as of now, only shows until March are already on sale.

Book of Mormon is due to close at some point. They've already extended the run a couple of times. You may want to check the current closing date.

I didn't know much about the revolution as a Brit, and I'm not particularly sensitive to being depicted as 'bad guys'.

One has to remember that Brits consume a vast amount of American media and the British villian trope has been common for a long time. Jokes at the expense of 'British culture' are a consistent presence in most shows / films, but it's not like we do the exact same in return. (i.e. cheap jokes about Americans being fat)

So yeah, folk will enjoy Hammilton because it's an excellent production, regardless of any 'awkward' context.

General public will receive it with a "who's Hamilton?"

But there's enough of a theatre crowd to ensure most showings up to June 2018 are already sold out.

I mean, maybe, but it's not like the majority of Hamilton's American audience cared or knew much about the man before the show.

Unless you're into founding fathers stuff or history in general, you, an American, probably know a bit about Alexander Hamilton but his name being attached isn't close to the draw. He doesn't have the mythic status of Benjamin Franklin or Washington and — honestly — what average American would be psyched about seeing a biographical show about a founding father? Certainly not as many as ended up seeing Hamilton.

It's all about the show itself. The juxtaposition of the setting and the hip hop, the incredible music in general, the smart and moving writing, the refreshingly race-bended casting.

Hamilton will draw many Brits, I imagine, whether or not they know a luck about its subject beforehand.

Yeah, maybe we'll be out of luck.

As of right now, no closing date has been announced. Hopefully they just move to a smaller venue first if they really end the run at the Prince of Wales Theatre in March.

Wicked is running in London since 2006, so I'd be a bit surprised if Book of Mormon will only run for five years.

We were lucky to get tickets for April. I haven't listened to more than a minute of Hamilton total.

She was great, but the standouts for me were Jamael, Obioma and Jason. The whole cast were fantastic though, it's a phenomenal production. I was a bit worried how I'd react to seeing it without the original cast whose voices are burned in my ears from listening to the Broadway soundtrack so much.

Already had tickets for this in January.. but randomly checked ticketmaster and bought a ticket for next week. Apparently row Q tickets were made available last week.

Yes, the tickets I bought last week for the end of May were row Q as well.

I first checked when this thread here was opened (my wife and I had just booked a trip to London to see The National at Victoria Park and we didn't even realize that Hamilton would be playing in London by then), and there were only premium tickets for £200 available.
Too expensive for us, we didn't want to spend that much money.

Later that same day, cheaper tickets for row Q were made available as well.

If anyone has a spare £190 to spend, there seems to be a lot of tickets available for Friday.

As a result of the returns policy (and pretty much full elimination of the tout market) it's actually pretty easy to find tickets if you check a few times throughout the day. And it's not always the really expensive ones that pop up. I managed to snag a £32.50 ticket to opening night tonight without too much trouble.

My advice is to open up the seating map for the day you want and just check it periodically throughout the day. It updates automatically in real time.

I'm happy that people are able to buy tickets but it sucks that I'm committed to March and didn't know I had other dates I could have taken because of it. Maybe I should find some Feb ones and after return the March.

Well I saw this this Monday and it was completely amazing as expected. Took me a while to get used to Burr, and I am a fan of Daveed Diggs so obviously I sub-consciously held that against the new Lafayette/Jefferson, but everything else was great.

I was never that attached to LMM himself as Hamilton, so I found Jamael Westman to be an immense improvement. He plays the young upstart really well.

Why would there be returns?

LMM is definitely a much stronger writer/composer than he is as a performer.

Went a couple of weeks ago in previews, and it was fantastic. I'd listened to the album a bunch of times, but seeing the choreography adds so much more. There's a moment in Hurricane that really stood out for me.

Definitely seeing it again when it makes it over to Australia. Very happy that I could see it while on holiday. :)

Daveed's "Yow!" after bragging about the Declaration of Independence during Cabinet Battle 1 encapsulates everything about his Jefferson for me. As it's so unique to Diggs, I don't know if another actor should even try to replicate it. Did the new guy do his own thing?

He did. He was kinda small in stature with a fairly high-pitched voice, so it felt more "dandy" or whatever. I felt like his Jefferson was better than his Lafayette, he absolutely killed What'd I Miss? by hamming it up a bit more than Diggs does.

For those who have seen the previews, how engaging are the cast? They must be super excited during the entire thing. Any funny mistakes?

Obioma has such an incredible, booming voice in this - i prefer it to the recorded US version. His arrival in 'right hand man' is incredible.

I want to order more tickets but I should hold out. I want to take my Mum :( should have gotten 3 tickets.

Anyone here watched a matinee? Which cast is swapped out? I think only Hamilton is using the alternate right?

Seeing it in Seattle in March. Never seeing the original cast will be one of my small lifetime regrets.

So I ended up watching it up front row centre, (Stalls A). Being tall has advantages; however if you're short don't hesitate to ask for the cushions from the cloakroom since they do give you about an inch or two's seating advantage. I'd say we were witting spitting distance.

It was the full cast minus Jason Pennycooke who's taking a break with Waylon Jacobs playing Lafayette/Jefferson instead. Honestly he did Lafayette better though Daveed obviously does Jefferson better. Not saying he wasn't great but it isn't exactly the same. Daveed brings the mockery better but Waylon really flirts with the audience esp on the front rows.
That said the show was one that kept improving as it continued, my experience in NYC was a bit of the opposite (Didn't see the original cast btw). I'd say Eliza and Peggy/Maria performances are better of the two (and even the soundtrack). Angelica and Washington performances are really great and it's hard to say which version was better, suffice to say it was very enjoyable and the 'One last time' rendition was definitely amazing.
In terms of Westman playing Hamilton, it feels like they try hard to cast someone who sounds very very similar to Lin-Manuel. It's a bit strange to hear almost identical performances though during some singing lines you could hear the English in him come out. Burr played by Giles was definitely the one that you'll notice is quite different from the American performance, it seemed like he had more freedom and honestly it was a really good performance but he isn't perhaps what you expect him to sound like at first.
Of course King George was funny and good as always. There's a fair few minor shoutouts to the audience, a few lines added here and there, not majorly but if you've seen it or listened to it enough you'll notice a few additions.
Set design and decor are great, keep your ids out quickly to help move the crowds, plenty of attendants and ushers around, the way to the ladies is still through the store cause there's still work going on in the theatre - it isn't completely finished but the renovation work done there is good. I've a friend who works for the trust and told me about how the sub-contractors are a pain to manage.

The music is great as expected, well produced and honestly it's pretty much as good if not better in some ways than the NYC version - production wise. The cast-audience interaction was really good last night as well.
