Yeah, it's an excellent game.

Someone above posted the card bullet time? What's great about that card, and by extension the game, is that you can build an entire deck around it by choosing high cost high value cards for your deck. There are all kinds of cards that let you do similar things come that is, center a deck around them.

The last run I played, which I won, Was a deck that was built around the corruption card, which exhausts (removes from your deck until the end of the fight) Any skill card you play but also makes it cost 0. I combined that with a power card that gives you armor every time you exhaust a card and barricade, which makes armor last indefinitely. The combo would never have occurred to me if I had not been given some random cards as I was playing.

The game has very high potential. And I have already gotten my money's worth. Even so I'd like to see many more relics and many more unique interactions.

Trying to get an anger deck going (anger + fire breathing + spinning top). Almost had it but I was stupid and got an infernal blade because it's 0. I forget the cards revert back to their original cost, and it ruined my whole synergy. I'm not happy with myself.

Just got my first victory with an ironclad barricade engine. Traded in my relic and got super lucky with a black star, so I powered up quickly. Barricade turtle with shrug it off and bodyslam is hilarious. Also threw in a demon form, that card that gets strength 5 times and some armaments. For future runs i should probably get rid of more cards, take less ones especially since my engine started early

I just finished the Act 3 Boss with my third Silent run - a Panache Discard deck. It's sort of funny since it started worse than my other Silent runs, but it came together really nicely. The last bosses were a complete pushover that couldn't deal with how much Block I could stack. It just seems to be a much stronger archetype than the Poison one.

I feel that the Ironclad could really benefit from a bit of damage reduction like the Huntress has. Maybe a weakening attack, even a one-cost attack to start off with.

Just watched a streamer win three games straight where twitch chat picked the cards that go into his deck.

imo ironclad's starting relic is so much better than silent's that it doesn't really need such a thing early on
it's easier for ironclad to go full offense

I've just picked up the game and finished my first run. I managed to kill the Awakened One in one turn. Easy game.
Well, it actually wasn't that easy. I didn't know that Ectoplasm meant that I wouldn't be able to earn any money at all - how do Ironclads usually get that 4 Energy? Also, I kept on forgetting to use my potions, so I was way weaker than I should have been when finishing Level 3. Finally, I was dead meat against the Awakened one, but I managed to just get him with a Pummel-Double Strike-Fiend Fire combo.

Overall, there are a ton of neat features in this game. It's not quite as hard as Monster Slayers, but it probably has overall more interesting decks and enemies. Being able to see what the monsters are planning to do is a really big deal.

Sozu or Mark of Pain are my favorite energy gainers. Sozu means you can't use potions and Mark of Pain gives two wounds to your draw pile.

Any tips? I feel like I really must suck at this game. I can't get past the level 2 boss every run I do. Does it just get easier as I unlock more cards? Or am I maybe just not playing very well haha.

still haven't cleared with silent ; ;

To me silent has the easiest and most consistent playstyle which is the attrition deck. The attrition deck has low decksize (try to cut out as many Strikes and Defends as you can), Blur (5 Block and you keep your Block next turn), and as much card draw as you can get (great cards being Backflip, Adrenaline, Preparation+, Acrobatics). And you need Noxious Fumes (a Power that deals poison each turn) to do your damage. Basically you just draw massive amounts of cards every turn until you get your Blur. The goal is to use Blur every turn until you get results like this:

X1gVvsV.png

All the while your enemies are slowly being poisoned to death and completely unable to do anything. I was able to clear the entire third act without taking a single point of damage with this deck.

thanks for the tips, i'll try and look for a blur deck
the thing is, i like to go offensive and silent i think is just not designed that way
i've had runs where i could've probably win the game with silent if i played it safely

My goal was based on that, but I used poison rather than attrition. Nothing better than doing >300 poison damage to the act 3 boss by tripling poison three times.

Honestly these relics are some of the very strongest in the game. I just went through a run with the Runic Dome, which hides the enemies' intents, and it wasn't that big a deal compared to how valuable an extra energy is.

I can attest to how strong this build is. It finished off the Act 3 Boss with no problems even though I picked up some useless cards. I went over 300 Block!

On the contrary, a Rapid Cycling/Discard Silent deck can have crazy powerful bursts. It concentrates on using tons of cards every turn, so combine capitalizing cards like A Thousand Cuts, Choke, or Panache, cheap cards like Shiv generators, and tons of card draw. The key is that it's easy to clog up your deck with useless crap, so just make sure you don't pick up anything unless it properly synergizes with what your deck is trying to do.

Yeah they're nuts. I've been avoiding Runic Dome because THE CHAMP can really fuck up your day if you have it and I really enjoy being able to meticulously plan around the enemy intentions. I think even if Runic Dome was objectively the best pick for a relic I still wouldn't take it. Just takes away a lot of the fun of the game for me.

Silent can be played that way with shiv burst or poison burst styles. There's a lot of flexibility. In general you want to look at the powers for each characters and think how to build around it, and there's a lot you can do with a Thousand Cuts power, Bullet Time and shiv generators.

Love this game. The music is so moody and it's just a joy to use the menus, everything is so quick and polished.

Looks pretty fun! I want to get into digital card games but I just never can. Im not a huge fan of the visual style of this one though. Reminds me of online flash games a little. Still, the gameplay does seem very solid.

Finished runs with both chars a few days ago.

I really want to continue playing but I feel like there is no point to it as I could only try and repeat what I have already done.

Here is hoping the devs will continue supporting this game past the third character/early access in either free or paid DLC form, I think it could have a lot of staying power if the devs add even more chars and additional floors on a somewhat regularly basis

give us more relics
more events from ? points
1 thing i've noticed is that the maps actually aren't randomized, i've been in maps that are exactly the same, so maybe make a true random stage

There's 5 sets of unlocks for each character. Unlocks more cards/relics, so there is something to do in the mean time.

GOt this today, put in 5 hours without noticing. Great little game. Really, really good learning curve; a lot of Roguelites/likes, you end up feeling like your progress is so incremental, but here I'm learning new stuff and getting significantly better at building my decks and playing the game every time.
What's your favorite card?

The king imo:

iqCPUHC.png
I didn't actually get that far using it, and I don't have any screenshots, but Double Tap on Heavy Blade+ w/ a few Strength generators is fucking amazing. Just smack for 100 damage, idgaf. If you can get the Necronomicon it's potentially downright comical, but I wasn't able to swing that :( Easily my favorite Ironclad run even if it did end up getting cut short by a City Elite.

I just beat it with a fucking weird ass deck. Playing as Silent, swapped my starting relic and got the Sneku's Eye, which makes you draw 2 more cards per turn, but gives you confusion. This meant all my power costs were randomised, so I ignored any 0 cost card I could find, opting for the highest cost cards I could get my hands on. First relic was bandages, which give me block when I discard, and I realise that's what I should be doing anyway, so I get Calculated Gambit, Preparedness, Backflip, Acrobatics, anything that lets me discard/draw more cards. Throw in a bunch of those 'Unplayable unless discarded' cards and my entire deck revolves around throwing away as many cards as possible for 0 cost randoms and extra block.

Even then, I nearly lost against the final boss, but I had the Lizard's Tail and that saw me through to the end. Really fun run, all told.

Has anyone else been playing ascension mode? Just unlocked ascension 8 for ironclad, haven't touched it with the silent yet.

Reaper with a strength build and the relic that causes exhausted cards to shuffle instead half the time carried me easily. Not sure I ever rested after the first act.

Really clever mode, but I can feel myself nearing the end of my time with it until there are some more major content updates.

I'm not that familiar with deckbuilding games.
Compared to traditional CCGs like Magic and Hearthstone, how crazy can you get with emergent strategies and synergies?

Bought this game after seeing Northenlion play it.
I absolutely love it, the deckbuilding is awesome and the combos you can build up are insanely powerfull.
My best deck was a choke shiv/producing deck with that relic that gives +1 strenght and the one that gives 3 shivs at the start, i snowballed so hard that most of my enemies didn't make it past turn 2.

oh wow this actually looks like something i'd probably enjoy quite a bit

not big on early access in general but this is the kind of thing with a lot of replays anyways so should be fine here i'll check it out

edit: bought it and did 1 run so far narrowly losing to the second boss, fun game

edit 2: did a few more runs and had one where I cleared all 3 floors, whirlwind+ice cream relic+double cast first attack +2 cost relic is so broken, also had a bunch of armor cards and a couple +1 energy/turn relics

Finally got a win on the Silent, in a way that I really didn't expect to be successful. Nothing fancy, just some poison, a good amount of defensive cards, and two dex potions for the boss. The boss was even the Time Eater, who I had never beaten before, and who I hate for removing all poison when he goes into rage. But I was just able to block almost everything he threw at me until the poison did its thing

Picked this up on the sale due to all the positive word of mouth. Was very skeptical of the idea being any good, but wow, I am having a blast. Its addicting and has great challenge/reward gameplay. Starting to see a lot of depth here.

I have never been a fan of roguelike games, but it works really well here. Since there are so many rng elements to deckbuilding, it ensures the game doesnt devolve into a broken meta with a few powerful combos. Keeps you on your toes and makes you have to think about what you really want to do.

Graphics are a bit meh, but who cares when gameplay is so fun. Im sure it will get updates and look better in time.

If I'm completely incompetent with deck building, will I like this game? I find them fun, but when it comes to actually putting together a deck, I have absolutely no idea where to start or what to do

I am bad at doing arenas and other deck building stuff, but this is my goty so far. Almost at 130 hours. Watch some YouTubers if you get stuck.

Are ports on specific platforms confirmed yet? I had only seen they would "look into" porting it to other platforms after early access.

Switch version would be great though and I think mobile versions would be cool for the game too.

I FINALLY got the minimalist achievement! Probably took me two or three dozen runs over a couple of weeks. To be fair, I almost got it two times but a dumb mistake cost me each time.

Now onto the last three achievements.

Let me know how that one relic achievement goes! Seems tough on paper!

Bumping this thread because yeah...this game is pretty great. My fears about deck building are subdued, for now at least. Only done two games so far so still very early in the game.

Excellent, I'm glad!

Actually got that one before getting Minimalist. I kept picking 'exchange starting relic with boss relic.' Run I won with was Snecko Eye, which is obviously a very RNG heavy relic, and sure enough I got very lucky. If it hadn't been for a heal event before the final boss, I wouldn't have made it.
