I love the latest art style, it feels like the hand drawn art from the classic WB instruction manuals and promo pics come to life!

And in anticipation of Monster Boy I'm playing my original copy of Dynastic Hero on my s-video modded Turbo Duo:

I've only owned the Genesis version, Wonder Boy in Monster World aka Wonder Boy V: Monster World III on the Mega Drive in Japan.

I've always wanted to play the Turbo/PCE CD version.

I've owned Dynastic Hero since it was released for the Turbo Duo back in 1994. It's still available on the original Wii shop channel which is the only official way to get it these days without spending a terrible amount of money. Might want to get it before it's no longer possible to add Wii points on
March 26th. I decided to play it ahead of Monster Boy because I recently played MB III and don't currently have WBMW for Genesis.

Posted on the development blog outlining my excitement for this amazing-looking game. It's my most anticipated release this year. The dedication from the publisher and developer is astounding.

I hope it sets the charts alight upon release to hopefully ensure a Monster Boy series, as I'd love it if we were to see multiple games, like the old Wonder Boy series. Everyone buy this.

Thanks for sharing your excitement and it's so cool to see Dynastic Hero images! <3 I recently played it on my Turbo Duo and it's a bit easier than the Mega Drive version (WB in MW). CD music is great but it misses some re-arrangements of the cartridge that I hoped to hear: Would have loved a re-arrange track of the underwater music from Mega Drive - so we did that for Monster Boy! Fan Service for ourselves :)

How does it feel compared to the rest of the Monster World games, including the WBIII remake?

Let's not compare with Monster World II (Dragon's Trap) but more with MWIII from Sega Mega Drive. Imagine Monster Boy like Wonder Boy in Monster World with a faster pacing and more dynamic world puzzles / interactions. There are high speed passages where you dash like sonic in lion form and then reach a dead end where you need to transform in realtime to a different form (e.g frog). In the 2nd half of the game it really opens up and you should always remember your abilities + additional equipment features. Using ice boots on lava, wear illuminated armor to dive into dark depths of the ocean. Remember that snake can't wear armor so better be careful when crawling into tiny spots with unknown obstacles. The major change compared to older Wonder Boy games is really that you constantly have all unlocked abilities available and don't need to return to a certain spot to change your form. This allows for some cool action puzzles.

Sounds cool. The switching seems to be a big issue with some people not used to old-school games in The Dragon's Trap. This sounds a bit more like Shantae, faster paced and less backtracking, but still has plenty of exploration.

Right but it's still fully open world with a big Symphony of the Night-like map. We have plenty of features to make backtracking fun and quick - various quality of life improvements compared to the old games. I also like that we managed to put the difficulty into actually finding out the best form, strategy and equipment rather than pure action skill. It's a bit like Zelda where bosses are easy when you know how they work. We want all players to be able to finish this game and enjoy the ride.

I will be honest with you, it looked like a generic flash game a few years ago but I do like the new art and design better. Looks great actually. Hope it plays well too. I am looking forward to it.

That gameplay vid from Gamescon 2017 reminds me of Maplestory so much. The artstyle hit me right in the feels of my childhood. I might just have to pick this game up.

Thanks! Yes I've heard the Maple Story comparison a couple times. It wasn't intended but it's also nice to remind of another classic. As long as you have good memories to it ;)

Hey Thomas - so when can we expect to hear about the release date? Surely the game's not far off now? Super excited for and very much looking forward to your game.

I just want to say I'm really looking forward to this game, and that I really should play Wonder Boy in Monster World and Monster World IV sometime because those are the only ones from the old series I still haven't completed yet.

As a backer of the original flying hamster 2 - we were promised a free copy of the game when it releases, is that still happening? That was like 3 years ago at this point..

The Dragon's Trap art and music were pure bliss. While I wish the art style was going to be carried-over, the new one is pretty great to. Day-1 on Switch for me, either way.

I've been looking forward to this since the day it was announced. Can't wait to play it. What are the chances of a physical PS4 release happening?

Please refer to Kickstarter Update 12 from April 2014. If you did all that in 2014 you'll still receive a free Steam Key as promised. To avoid misunderstandings: Nobody backed this game because the campaign was cancelled and FDG pays all the bills since 2014 ;)

Thank you! Sorry but I don't have any information about a physical release at the moment. Please keep your fingers crossed! ;)

One little new info for you, the game will be big! You'll explore over 20 locations with unique graphical themes and hear over 40 music tracks on your journey. Lots of variety !!

I will! Although here's hoping that if it does happen it won't be limited to, well, Limited Run Games. I feel like this game, by the looks of things, deserve just as much attention as the Dragon's Trap remake (which not only got a physical release through LRG, but also an Asian English copy and soon will have proper retail versions in both Europe and North American thanks to Nicalis).

Also have to say that I just love how colourful this game looks!

I remember this.

I'd love it if it came out boxed at the same time as digital, unlike Dragon's Trap. I'm so tempted to get that physical Dragon's Trap, but I already played the hell out of it, and it's $40.

Thomas Kern, thank you for being a part of the team making it happen, I can't wait for this! Playing Wonder Boy recently gave me an urge for more similar old school goodness and this fits the bills pretty much perfectly. :D

I remember you guys teasing a Switch retail release on Twitter at some point last year, Is there any progress about this?

Edit: Sounds like Mega Man Zero remembered that before me!

The new art makes it look like wonderboy now, super hyped for it. Will buy switch physical if it turns out to be available.

Please be a simultaneous worldwide release.
I'm tired of Japan always having to wait forever to get anything decent on the Eshop.

Doesn't Nintendo of Japan require the company to have a local office to submit to eshop or something? I think non-Japanese companies usually end up having to find a Japanese publisher to partner with for the release.

Is this the one that looked pretty terrible initially? I'd still play it, just asking if same project. By the original creators or whatever but without the license. Great art style now!
