I have both versions of the game and I'm wondering which one I should play. I'd have to hook my Wii U back up to play that version and I just want to know if it's worth it or I should just play the Xbox version.

Unless you have some motor function issues or very weak ARM strength then the Wii U version is the definitive way to play. Otherwise it's just an slightly above average zombie game.

I remember when it first came out, I thought it was a mediocre launch title... and by the time the Wii U's life cycle was coming to an end, it was revered as one of the best games on the platform. What happened? *_* Anyways, U!

ZOMBI U is the only one correct choice. The best game that uses Wii U tablet to the max.

To me, I have to go with Zombi. I'm just not a fan of the Wii U Gamepad whatsoever. It's clunky, I don't like the feel of the triggers, and not having to look down to view a screen for the inventory were a Godsend.

People initially judged it as a FPS instead of treating as a survival horror. once people came to understand more what the game actually is, it was better appreciated.

Zombi, personally. The Wii U stuff is gimmicky. Some people feel it adds to the game's atmosphere, but I really don't agree. Still, you bought a Wii U in the first place so the Wii U's features are probably appealing to you. (There's a similar disagreement with Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.) Either is good, I guess.

Darn underrated game, BTW.

I played ZombiU for about 5 hours and found it super stressful and frustrating. It was a good idea tho, just not great execution.

If it's super stressful and frustrating, then it's doing it's job.

ZombiU is definitely the way to go. The gamepad mechanics are solid, and really add to the feel of managing your inventory while distracted.
I think the biggest shame that Zombi had is losing the multiplayer mode. Asymmetrical gameplay was at its peak with ZombiU, alongside Nintendo Land, and I think it's the only zombie game that combined a tactical RTS with a survival horror FPS.

I've got both, and I still prefer the PC version.

I really hated having my focus forced away from the TV to the gamepad for the Wii U version. It was clever use of the tech granted, but I just prefer playing on a really big TV and keeping that the focus during play.

The game is supposed to stress you out. If you don't want that, don't do the Wii U version.

WiiU. The game feels off without the game pad, and iirc sure the PS4/xbone ports had some poor balance changes. I can find it used for about $8 around here, and it's totally worth the price.

I dunno man, it was physically exhausting and not fun for me. I've enjoyed plenty of difficult and stressful games, but this was a bit too far for me personally.

ZombiU. No doubt. The threat is real when you have to split your attention. It's real survival horror

Reviews tanked because reviewers were upset it was a survival horror game instead of an action game.

Zombi U is one of the most unique horror experiences you'll ever have.

Zombi is a generic 1st person survial horror zombie game.

How will U play next?

The Wii U gamepad gimmick is really the only thing the game has going for it in my opinion, so Wii U or nothing.

It's a good game either way. But if you can ever avoid the U Gamepad you should

It works just as well as a survival horror without the Pad. The inventory screen covers the entire screen, so you're still crippled when going through your inventory

Nope.

You also get an ever-present minimap and the speed of melee attacks has been significantly increased, turning a formerly methodical combat system into a mindless button masher. The game could have been reworked to approximate the original experience on a single screen, but that would require far more effort than what Ubisoft was willing/able to put into this port (and a little bit more respect for its audience).

I personally feel this is one of the greatest horror / atmospheric / intense / thriller game that has ever been created. With literally under a years development time, small team and unique direction, Ubisoft Montpellier absolutely crushed it on this one. I loved both iterations of the game. I personally feel it has some of the most organic, natural, dense environments created in a game.

EDIT- I would go with the either version. They are both fun. The WiiU gamepad does add more suspense to handling your inventory in real time.

I mean, in that screenshot, the screen is practically completely covered. You won't be able to fight any zombies like that. And even if melee attack speed has been increased, you would never really want to ever use melee if more than one zombie is present anyway. I doubt such a speed increase would change player behaviour of many people

Zombi U hands down. The Gamepad makes it kind of like a semi VR experience when you use it to scan a room with the gyroscopic controls. It mimics as if you were using the prepper pad IRL. Also when you look down to check your inventory it mimics the act of searching through your backpack which adds to the tension of not knowing if something is coming from behind. The HUD less screen and no crosshair makes it even better. Here's a video of what I'm talking about. I always play standing up in a dark room. I like to pop it in play every so often.

The sound of the Prepper talking to you and making your heart jump out of your throat is entirely worth the price of admission.

The Wii U version has more character, I guess, and gives reason for the slow inventory system. It was designed to be played with the Gamepad. But, really, either one. I've beaten both and there aren't any major differences between the two apart from the inventory being on the TV instead of on the Gamepad.

The sound on the Xbox One version seems really low for me, I had issues with the inventory screen blinking and had the game crash on me so The Wii U version has been better so far IMO. The Wii U pad also made it a different experience as well that made it more enjoyable.

But... it's not completely covered. That view gives you a really good sense of your surroundings. There's just no way anything could sneak up on you unless you manage to enter the inventory screen while staring at a wall. Fighting there isn't an issue since the game takes away control of your character in both versions.

Yeah, you wouldn't want to tackle more than one or two zombies in ZombiU, but you can easily bash through entire hordes in the Zombi version because the charge up mechanic is almost instantaneous and all the zombies die faster. It feels like a different game.

I played ZombiU for 6 hours and then got a gamebreaking bug where I could not continue, a door was locked. UBI never patched it. Will never try it again.

The PC version is the best for me, 60 fps + mouse control is really nice, i really like the info on the gamepad on wii U but i grow tired of scaning with it.
But if you have both game on console you may as well play the wii U version.

I thought they patched out most of these?

The game was janky af for the first few months. I remember if you died in the nursery basement you would have to start from scratch.

ZombiU.

The tension of having to use the GamePad for inventory management while being completely vulnerable was brilliant. The minimal HUD elements are a plus too.

All these reasons. Gamepad is far more than just a "gimmick", it's intrinsic to the game.
