Dude the sandstone texture is so nice. I'm always slipping a finger in my pocket to fondle. Huge part of my I love the phone so much.

I went from the iPhone 6 to the iPhone X. The haptic feedback on 3d touch is blowing my mind. Amazing engineering.

I made the same jump and I have a bit of a hard time getting used to the extra bulk and weight difference. From 129g to 174g. Unlike 4 years ago when I made the jump from the heavier iPhone 4 (137g).
I had always hoped that an OLED iPhone would actually turn out to feel both lighter in weight and be thinner than an old IPS LCD screen iPhone in similar size. So yeah, why are the phones now getting heavier again?
Wish Apple could do without the extra glass on the back which doesn't do anything for me since I use a case.
I have until tomorrow to decide whether I keep it or go back to my old iPhone 6 (would need a fresh battery).
On the other hand, what are my options? I don't think that Apple will release any different looking OLED iPhone this year, so might as well just keep it. No idea what to do. *sigh*

More glass, more screen, aluminum construction. OLED or not, if your whole front face is a screen, by definition weight is going to go up. This is why the iPhone SE is around ~114g.

The glass is both for aesthetics (see: iPhone 4) but also to support Qi charging, which will work through cases up to a certain thickness. Certainly they could drop a fair amount of frame weight by switching to plastic, but then the build quality of the unit would feel (if not be) noticeably worse.

Forget getting lighter, the battery could still do with being upped. There are heavy use days when I'm taxing the phone's capacity and that's while the battery is still very new so it's only going to get worse as it ages.

Apple absolutely needed to stop the dead-end chase for lightness and thinness, at least until we get a replacement for lithium-ion. The smart play is using the space gained from removing things like the headphone jack to fit in more battery. A thin, light phone without charge is no more use than a brick.

Yeah, I'd absolutely deal with the additional thickness if the entire iPhone were as thick as the camera bump and all that extra room were used for battery. I'm sure it'd cost Apple an additional $10 per phone or so, but they'd probably be able to handle that just fine.

Still, let's hope Li-Ion finally gets transcended sometime this decade.

I think the camera bump is here to stay until newer trends, as it's basically the realisation that if most people use a case, you can have a thicker camera module than the rest of the body, and still have a flush phone for most, while not being that bothersome for the remaining. And the bigger the module the bigger the camera quality potential.

What I'm saying is that if they made the whole phone as thick as the current camera bump, they would make a newer camera bump on top of that as there is a tight race out there for the best camera phone.

It's now been 2.5 months since the iPhone X went on sale, and Apple still has yet to update their Remote app. They haven't even updated it for iOS 11. How can a company the size of Apple not have the capacity to throw one developer on the app to update it? I use this app every day to control iTunes in my house. I don't get why it's so neglected.

They used Snapchat to sell the X and haven't updated to the stuff they showed yet either

The same thing happened after iOS 7, it took ages for the remote app to be updated. If I remember correctly, Apple apologized and said it was maintained by one employee in his free time.

Yep, that's nice and clean. Most screen protectors have the notch cutout and they look terrible.

If I used a screen protector, I wouldn't want to cover the camera with it or the sensors. Screen protectors also don't protect from drops, weird how many people think this thin, cheap piece of material will really do anything. Yes, if your phone drops, sometimes only the screen protector will crack. That is because it is a thin, cheap material.

I definitely don't think the Remote app is anywhere near a "flagship feature".
Read my post again. I said "flagship product" feature. The ATV is one of their front and center products, and every iphone should be able to be used as a remote. And again, they should be embarrassed that they can't spare any staff beyond someone who made tbe app in their spare time to update basic compatibility of this app on their latest showcase phone.

Ehhh, the Apple TV is less hobby status than it used to be, but it's still handily in the bottom rung of Apple products, only above like, the AirPorts. They definitely don't take it as seriously as, say, Amazon.

Also, I'm not sure we're talking about the same Remote app (Apple TV Remote vs iTunes Remote)

The remote app is fucking trash and loses connection all the time. It needs so much work, not to mention really obvious convenience things like an automatic switch for devices like AirPods (as in, press a button to switch connection between iPhone and ATV).

Getting the remote app full screen would take all of 5 minutes, it's a trivial change. At a minimum all they need is a launch image of the correct resolution.

a screen protector will absorb and spread some of the impact of a fall. So a fall that would crack the screen may now not crack the screen.

If you get a good one I see it as a relative no brainer. The lack of TouchID is a plus here, as good screen protectors for the X are basically slabs of glass with no circular or notch cutouts (it was annoying with touchID where the button felt a lot deeper due to a screen protector)

I have an iCarez which is really nice, although it does have rough edges (not 3D). But when its in a leather case that is hidden anyway.

Anyone else getting impatient waiting for that AirPower or whatever it's called?

I thought it would come out by now.

To those complaining about the Apple TV Remote app:

Add "Apple TV Remote" under control center settings and be done with it. Good lord...

Cant you use a third party charging pad?
Yes, the iPhone charges with regular Qi charging

However, the AirPower mat adds some proprietary featues like:
* Charging multiple devices at the same time
* Charging not just the latest iPhones but also Series 3 AppleWatch
* Charge Qi enabled AirPod cases
* display the various' items charging levels on the iPhone, like so:

Had a weird bug where my phone vibrated in my pocket and then appeared to be dead. However it sometimes vibrated as if I had put in the wrong passcode on the screen. Took about four minutes of playing with it until the screen turned back on.

I cant wait for that to come out as I have all 3 of those devices. Would make packing for trips a lot less annoying.

I haven't tried zooming on twitch yet.

Anyone have some qi charger recommendations? Girlfriend got an X and wants one but idk what to get. Ideally it'd be one that will allow the phone to sit or stand and won't let it slide around.

Anyone having trouble with the Harmony widget on an iPhone X? It just says "connecting to Harmony hub" and never does anyone. Once, when I swiped over, I saw my devices listed, but rebooting/reistalling -- nothing changes.

This desperately needs a .x update. I sincerely hope the wait means there's a real effort to iron out 11 and all the problems everyone's been having.

Yeah, it sucks. I find disconnecting the hub from the app and re-connecting works.

Wireless charging is slow but feels so good.

Not using any wires is so much nicer than I imagined.
